Opera House Met Live Season Features Cinderella FREDONIA – Live at the Met, the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live, high definition (HD) opera transmissions to theaters around the world, continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center on Sat., Jan. 8, at 1 p.m., with a captured live presentation of Cinderella.
Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis notes that “due to the continued high positivity rate of COVID in Chautauqua County, and in accordance with CDC, local and State guidelines, we are requiring all patrons to wear masks before, during and after Opera House events. Masks must securely and
snugly cover the nose and mouth entirely. Neck gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable.” Captured live from a special New Year’s Day performance, Laurent Pelly’s storybook staging of Massenet’s Cendrillon, a hit of the 201718 season, is presented with an all-new English transla-
tion in an abridged 90-minute adaptation, with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as the rags-to-riches princess. Maestro Emmanuel Villaume leads a delightful cast, which also includes mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo as Cinderella’s Prince Charming, soprano Jessica Pratt as her Fairy
Godmother, and mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and bass-baritone Laurent Naouri as her feuding guardians. Sung in English with English subtitles, the production runs 90 minutes with no intermission. Individual tickets to each of the operas in the season are $20, ($18 Opera House
members, $10 students). A flexible subscription of eight tickets which can be used in a variety of ways – one at a time to eight different operas, all at once for eight people, or anything in between – is available for $142. Tickets may be purchased in

Rivera awarded Gilman scholarship to study in England FREDONIA, NY – Autumn Rivera, a sophomore from Dunkirk majoring in Visual Arts and New Media at the State University of New York at Fredonia, has been awarded a Gilman scholarship for her study abroad experience in Lancaster, England.
She will attend a program at the University of Lancaster in Fall 2022. “I’ve always wanted to experience life in another country and I felt that studying abroad would be the best choice for that,” Ms. Rivera said, when asked why she wants to study abroad. “I felt
it would allow me to gain a deeper understanding of that country by integrating myself long-term into a system that would allow me to study using their curriculum and to meet people who already live there.” Why study in England? “The United Kingdom has
always been a place that’s interested me. So much to the point that I’ve always thought about moving there one day. So, studying abroad there had felt like the right choice. I’d like to experience life there long-term to see if it’s right for me and Lancaster University had per-
sonally felt quite inviting to me.” Since 2015, 21 Fredonia students have been awarded more than $70,000 in Gilman scholarships. Nationally competitive Gilman scholarships seek to promote access to study abroad opportunities to students
