Early Morning Bird Walks at Audubon First Week in May

Borrello wants to protect Lake Erie from wind turbines ALBANY — To protect the ecology of freshwater lakes, clean water supplies and national security, state Sen. George Borrello has introduced legislation to place a moratorium on the building or placing of permanent or semi-permanent wind turbines in bodies of freshwater in New York state. “I dra ed this legislation to protect our freshwater lakes from becoming industrialized by massive wind turbines,” Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, said. “Our greatest natural and environmental resource is our freshwater lakes. These lakes, and the communities that cherish them, should not be sacrificed on the altar of the boondoggle green energy agenda.” The senator said that in their zeal to appease radical special interests, and those who profit personally and politically, Gov. Cuomo Cuomo and his allies in the Assembly and Senate would allow the installation of massive 460-foot industrial wind turbines in the waters of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario without considering the impact on the environment. “This reckless push to industrialize our freshwater lakes is more about promoting a false political agenda than doing anything mean-

Monday through Friday, May 3 – 7, 6:30 – 7:30 a.m., you can join an Audubon educator or experienced volunteer to birdwatch on Audubon’s trails. With a different trail each day, both experienced and novice birders have a wide variety of habitats to search for their feathered friends. The schedule is:Monday, May 3: Pond edges and Big Pond; Tuesday, May 4: Shrubby wetlands and ponds; Wednesday, May 5: Backyard Birding; Thursday, May 6: Fields and fencerow; Friday, May 7: Young forest and pond edges. Face coverings are required for outdoor programs during which participants cannot maintain six feet of distance between family groups; have a face covering available. Bring a set of binoculars if you have them, or Audubon has some you can borrow. Dress for the weather, especially footwear.Enrollment is limited to eight people per walk.
