City sets youth recreation baseball league sign-up date JAMESTOWN – The City Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department would like to announce sign-ups for the City Recreation Youth Baseball League will take place Monday, April 19th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall. Masks are required & social distance guidelines will be followed. The program is open to youth ages 7 to 12 years old. Children of 7 years of age will only be allowed to play in the outfield. City residents must pay a $5.00 registration fee per
child. Non-city residents must pay a $15.00 registration fee per child. All children registering must supply proof of age. Children who played in the program in previous years must still sign up on April 19th and pay the registration fee. The application for financial assistance is available on the city’s website at www. jamestownny.net or at the Jamestown Parks & Rec Office, located at 145 Steele Street during regular business hours. The scholarship form is
due back to the Parks & Rec Office by Monday, April 166th. The age determination date is APRIL 30, 2021. Whatever a player’s age is on or before April 30, 2021 is the player’s LEAGUE age for the 2021 season. This playing age rule corresponds with that adopted by Babe Ruth Baseball. Chautauqua County probes release of email information MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County officials sent out a notice this past week that it discovered an email was sent out by the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services on March 26 to several individuals that accidentally made visible and listed the personal email account addresses of all the recipients in the subject line. The email contained an updated map for a second dose COVID vaccination clinic to be held on March 27; no other personal information or health information was included, county officials said. Chautauqua County is currently conducting an indepth investigation of this situation. The Department of Health and Human Services is responding to this incident by sending letters to all of the March 26, 2021 email recipients informing them of this situation, conducting supplemental HIPAA and protected health information staff trainings in addition to its yearly mandatory trainings, and issuing email security and best practice reminders to
its staff to ensure this type of accident does not occur again. “Chautauqua County and the Department of Health and Human Services recognize the unfortunate nature of this incident and assure the public that protecting the confidentiality and privacy of individ-
uals’ personal and health information in our possession is among Chautauqua County’s highest priorities,” the county said in a statement. If there are any questions or concerns, call Debra Zahn, Chautauqua County’s compliance officer, at 753-4714.

Schumer and Gillibrand’s letter to the Corps states: We write today on behalf of the Town of Westfield, New York in the hopes that the U.S Army Corps of Engineers will repurpose surplus programmatic funding to dredge the federal portion of the Barcelona Harbor. Without access to the federally owned and Corps-controlled channel, Westfield and the surrounding area risks losing one of its greatest economic assets, and Lake Erie also risks losing another safe harbor along its American shoreline. Recently, the rising water levels on Lake Erie and
unpredictable weather have caused a significant build-up of sediment in this channel. With the continuing ice melt and spring storms, the accumulation of this sediment will only get worse. This raises significant concerns about the operational viability of the harbor and its continued success. Commercial and recreational fishing on Lake Erie is a significant economic asset to Westfield and the surrounding towns and businesses. Furthermore, the Lake Erie shoreline includes very few safe harbor marinas between Erie, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York. Barcelona Harbor’s availability provides a crucial refuge for boaters and its operation must not be interrupted. We believe that this situation meets all necessary criteria for the use of emergency allocations and such programmatic funding should be directed as soon as possible. Davis said that although the number of people in the area who have been vaccinated is steadily rising, people are not yet comfortable opening up their homes to boarders. Similarly, some of the musicians expressed resistance to this type of housing arrangement. A recent informal survey of Opera House patrons also identified a reluctance to attend in-theater events in the near-term. “More than a quarter of survey respondents say they would not return to the theater until fall, with another third indicating it would be mid- to late summer for them,” Davis said. “We explored other options such as postponing

the festival until later in the summer, using all local musicians, and even presenting a smaller festival,” he said. “But each presented its own list of additional challenges.” All of this led Davis and Festival Director and Conductor Grant Cooper to conclude that the best course of action would be to cancel this year’s festival. The entire program planned for what would have been the 25th Festival will become the program for 2022, which will be held on June 10-12, 2022.

that the shift to hybrid operations has influenced the college’s method of course delivery and student support services.
