CRCF announces Nonprofit Networking Day cancellation, Zoom webinars to launch instead

Nonprofit Networking Day, long hosted by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, will no longer take place, but area nonprofit professionals will have a new opportunity for education and collaboration through a series of CRCF-sponsored Zoom webinars this fall.

According to CRCF Executive Director Karen Niemic Buchheit, the series will be an ongoing opportunity for nonprofit professionals and volunteers to learn about a number of different topics important for charitable organizations.

The Nonprofit Link and Learn Seminar Series will take the place of CRCF’s Nonprofit Networking Day held in the fall for the previous 10 years, said Buchheit.

In 2020, CRCF plans to hold two seminars: one focusing on Cattaraugus Gives, the online day of

giving for the Cattaraugus County community, which raised nearly $111,000 for a number of area nonprofits in 2019, as well as a seminar on charitable planned giving, led by Tyler Threehouse, an Olean attorney specializing in estate planning and asset protection.

This year’s seminars will be held via Zoom due to limitations on gatherings related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format and location of future series will be determined later.

The first workshop, “How Peer-to-Peer Fundraising can ignite your Cattaraugus Gives Campaign,” will be held via Zoom on Friday October, 23. The workshop will be led by Kirk Windus, CRCF communications and fund development manager and Cattaraugus Gives organizer.

The second webinar, led

by Threehouse of Threehouse Law Firm, will be held

Friday, Nov. 13 at Noon, also via Zoom. More details about the session are to follow at a later date.

A link and information for registration will be sent out prior to each seminar.

“It is sad to see Nonprofit Networking Day come to an end after so many successful years,” said Buchheit. “But this is a new opportunity that will be just as beneficial and will allow us to provide the same exceptional programming, but on an ongoing basis and at a time and length that we think will be more convenient for people.”

“We also want to build on the success of Cattaraugus Gives and so we are allocating more resources toward expanding and supporting nonprofits’ participation in that event,” Buchheit added.

Fall Foliage Weekends at Holiday Valley

Holiday Valley Resort is hosting Fall Foliage Weekends where you can take a ride up the Mardi Gras or Spruce Lake chairlifts on Saturdays and Sundays during the month of October (Oct 3-4, Oct. 10-11, Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25) to view the spectacular fall leaves on the hillsides.

Mardi Gras will operate from noon to 4:00 and Spruce Lake will operate from 11:00 to 4:30, weather permitting. $10 per person, kids 6 and under are free. Please note: dogs, backpacks or bags are not permitted on the lift.

Cattaraugus County officials announce General Election info

Cattaraugus County Board of Elections Commissioners Kevin Burleson and Cortney Spittler have announced the 2020 General Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in all election districts.

Voter registration forms must be postmarked no later than Oct. 9, 2020, and received by the Board of Elections no later than Oct. 14, 2020, to be eligible to vote in the General Election. Applications may be made in person at the Board of Elections until Oct. 9, 2020. Voters, who were previously registered and have moved within the county, must submit an updated registration form

by Oct. 14. Voter registration forms can be mailed at upon request from the Board of Elections office; applications may also be downloaded and printed on the website at cattco.org/ board-elections; or voters may register in person at 207 Rock City St., Suite 100, Little Valley. Voter registration forms are also available at any local post office, county or state agencies, as well as from city, town or village clerks.

To apply for an absentee ballot a voter may be: • Absent from their county on Election Day. • Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability (temporary illness in-

Voters can apply for an absentee ballot electronically (through the absentee ballot application portal located on the website), by sending an email request to the Board of Elections, by calling the Board of Elections to request over the phone, sending a fax request, applying in person at the Board of Elections or mailing an application to the Board of Elections.

If the voter is applying by letter or email, the letter/email must contain the voter’s name and date of birth, the address at which he/she is registered, an address where the ballot should be mailed, and the reason for the request.

The deadline to apply online, postmark, email or fax a completed application or letter request for the General Election Absentee ballot is no later than 7 days

(Oct. 2 7 ) b e fo re the election.

Voters may apply in-person up to the day before the election (Nov. 2). An application may be filed at any time before the deadline. Ballots will be mailed the day after the request was received. Commissioners recommend that once a voter receives the ballot, that it be voted and returned to the Board of Elections as soon as possible. Voted ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, Nov. 3.

Early voting will be open in two locations in Cattaraugus County for 9 days, beginning Oct 24 and ending Nov. 1. Early voting locations are the Cattaraugus County Board of Election office and Jamestown Community College, Cutco Building, Olean. Any registered voter in Cattaraugus County is able to vote in person at the early voting center of their choice.

If the voter requests or casts and returns an absentee ballot, they may still go to the polls and vote in person. State Election Law recognizes that plans change. The Board of Elections is required to check the poll book before canvassing an absentee ballot.

If a voter comes to the poll site on Election Day or during early voting and votes in person, the absentee ballot is set aside, unopened and not counted. However, a voter may not cast a vote during early voting and then again on Election Day.
