Fiddle Fest Returns July 29
By Derek M. Otto
The sixth annual Fiddler’s Green Fiddle and Bluegrass festival returns to Springville on July 29. The festival, which started as part of the 2012 Town of Concord Bicentennial celebration, will once again bring rustic music and flare to downtown Springville. The festival highlights the early beginnings of Springville when it was known as
Fiddler’s Green. In those days, from 1810 onward, residents from all around the Holland Purchase came to play music and dance in the area’s natural grove; the remnants of this grove is Fiddler’s Green Park. A Colonial Encampment by the Fiddler’s Green Militia will be set up in Fiddler’s Green Park. Music will be provided at two major venues—the Concord Mercantile General
Store and the Gazebo at Fiddler’s Green Park. The following bands will be at the Mercantile: 11:30 a.m. to noon, WNY Fiddle Kids; noon to 2 p.m., Rearview Ramblers; 2:30 to 4 p.m. Blue Mule Band; 4:30 to 6 p.m. Niagara Frontier Fiddlers. At the Fiddler’s Green gazebo: 11 to 11:45 a.m. Mercantile Musicians; noon to 1:30 p.m., The Hick-Ups; 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunset Bluegrass Band; 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Hintz of Thunder. To go along with the music, there will be a course in clogging throughout the day at the Concord Town Hall at 86 Franklin Street with an intermediate clogging workshop between 9:30 and 12:30, a learn to clog session at 1:30 p.m. and another intermediate clogging workshop at 2 p.m.

To the right is the Western House, or Carl Seider’s bar, as it looked in 1936 and 1937 when Harry Prentice stated that he was there for most of the day on October 7, 1936. Is one of the Dodge coupes parked out front Harry Prentice’s? Evidence pointed to Prentice as a suspect in the murder of Christina Mary Jureller. His alibi was being at Carl Seider’s bar most of the day. By Derek M. Otto
The recent grisly discovery of human skeletal remains nearby in the town of North Collins is a reminder of a time more than 80 years ago when a similar discovery was made.

New Dental Office Open for Business
Let’s face it—going to the dentist can be stressful for many people. But Joseph Rumfola, DDS hopes to make it a more positive and convenient experience by offering his expertise in a beautiful new facility right here in Springville. Rumfola was the valedictorian of the SGI class of 1994 and the salutatorian of his graduating dental school class. After completing his residency at the dental school, he returned home to open his own dental practice, where he has been since 2003.
While Rumfola recently moved his office, his patients should not have any trouble finding the new building. That’s because he moved into a newly-built space right next
door at 396 Waverly Street. The dentist office was previously housed on the basement level of the neighboring insurance agency. See Rumfola Office page 8
