This year, we proudly introduce two remarkable standalone additions: the Outdoor Living and Wellness Expo and the Public Spaces Expo. These additions bring fresh opportunities and promising avenues for growth within our industry. Our dedication remains unwavering. We understand the significance of not just meeting but exceeding your expectations. We’re here to spotlight the latest industry advancements, nurture enduring relationships, and set the bar for excellence within the field. Our seminar and debate programme is packed with action: from Pro Landscaper’s Inspire Theatre, in association with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and the Society of Garden Designers (SGD), to the Nurture Theatre, in partnership with Kebur Garden Materials, the Public Spaces Theatre in partnership with Maylim, and the Lighting Theatre in partnership with Landscapeplus. How to get there
Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway, London E16 1XL 21 November 9am-5pm | 22 November 9am-3:30pm
By car If you are arriving via the M11, the North Circular (A406) or the A13 as you approach the ExCeL, you will pick up signs for Royal Docks, City Airport and ExCeL London. If you are travelling from the East to ExCeL from the M11 or into London from the East and are using a satellite navigation, please use the postcode E16 1FR. If you are travelling from the West to ExCeL from the Blackwall Tunnel, Limehouse Link, A12 or Central London, please use the postcode E16 1XL. If you are traveling from Brighton, follow the M23 and M25 through West Sussex and onto the A2 in Kent. Take the exit towards London/Bexleyheath from M25, then continue onto the A2 and take A102 to Sandstone Lane in London. Parking For FutureScape, the ExCeL offers parking across two car parks: the Orange car park (under the main venue) and the Royal Victoria multi-

storey car park. Parking costs £25 in the Orange car park for up to 24 hours. Parking cannot be pre-booked and is on a first-come first-served basis. There are allocated spaces for those with disabilities. Any vehicle displaying the disabled blue badge is still required to pay the car park charge. Parking is for cars only. By train The ExCeL has two DLR (Dockland’s Light Railway) stations: Custom House for events taking place in the west of the venue and Prince Regent for those taking place in the east. FutureScape will be taking place in the west of the venue.
The nearest underground station to the venue is Canning Town. Take the DLR from Canning Town towards Beckton and alight at Custom House. For visitors arriving by foot, taxi or DLR, the nearest entrance is the West Pyramid Entrance. For those arriving via DLR, please alight at the Custom House station. Visitors arriving by car should use the N4/S4 Entrance. This entrance is in Zone 3 of the undercroft car park and will bring attendees directly up onto the boulevard. Alternatively, you can walk to the venue – ExCeL is approximately a 20-minute walk from Canning Town underground station.

What to expect A varied seminar programme FutureScape is once again delivering a packed seminar programme, covering the latest topics and trends in the landscaping industry. Pro Landscaper’s Inspire Theatre is being hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) on the first day, with speakers sharing how to create a sustainable and awardwinning show garden. On the second day, the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) is taking over this theatre, with tips for creating more environmentally friendly gardens that are just as beneficial for people. In association with Kebur, we are also hosting our popular Business Theatre on the Tuesday, covering everything from succession planning to buying local. This is transforming into our Nurture Theatre for the Wednesday, where we’re exploring biodiversity net gain, plant health and care setting gardens. The Training, Education and Employment Village theatre returns this year, in association with GoLandscape, with handy advice on business and career development, with a special programme aimed at students on 22 November. With lighting being such an important part of a project, it has its own theatre in association with Landscapeplus, located in the new Outdoor Living & Wellness Expo. The new Public Spaces Expo also has its own theatre, in association with Maylim, focusing on commercial design and landscaping. It is also taking us behind the scenes of two prolific projects – Regent’s Place and Thamesmead.
Two new co-located shows Visitors are able to attend three unmissable shows all at once! Joining FutureScape in association with Caribbean Blinds this year is the Outdoor Living & Wellness Expo in association with Remanso Pergolas, a groundbreaking new exhibition catering to a diverse audience and showcasing the finishing touches for both commercial and domestic projects. It’s a prime opportunity for garden designers and landscapers to enhance their profitability, as well as explore the latest trends and innovations on the market. The Public Spaces Expo in association with Maylim is also taking place at FutureScape. Aimed at local authorities, architects, landscape architects and commercial landscapers, this new exhibition emphasises the importance of urban greening, providing a platform for sharing ideas, knowledge and best practice with likeminded individuals. Demos and displays From the Soft Landscaping Zone – where planting and irrigation are centre stage – to the Demonstration Zone – where you’ll find everything from avoiding the pitfalls of porcelain to an outdoor phonics system – there’s something for everyone in the demonstration zones this year. Industry experts from TASK Academy are also hosting their own demonstrations on paving and decking across both days, whilst Holly Landscape Training will be showcasing a variety of land-based skills in its demonstration zone. More exhibitors than ever before There’s double the number of exhibitors this year, offering visitors a variety of suppliers to speak to, from their firm favourites to the new innovators on the block, across a whole range of sectors. Exhibitors are also showcasing a variety of new products and greener kit, such as battery power ranges from Makita, Kress and Cramer. The latest tools and trends will all be at visitors’ fingertips. New and returning awards Now in their ninth year, Pro Landscaper’s 30 Under 30: The Next Generation awards in association with Green-tech return to
CPD accreditation for visitors This year, FutureScape has partnered with The CPD Group to provide Continuous Professional Development (CPD) accreditation to visitors for the first time in the event’s history. Visitors will receive a CPD accreditation certificate by scanning one of two barcodes - one for each day of the event. These will be available to scan in each of the theatres for visitors to claim their accreditation.

The Pro Landscaper Project Awards in association with Provender Nurseries are also taking place, showcasing exemplars in design and build with a value of less than £50k. Reimagining landscapes and the public realm Elettra Bordonaro Light Follows Behaviour has a fresh approach to lighting design for landscapes and the public realm – more inclusive, more meaningful, more engaging. Transforming spaces needs collective, radical approaches; so, through its work it weaves the disciplines of social researchers, urban planners, architects, brand designers and lighting designers. Here, founder Elettra Bordonaro explains the practice’s approach with reference to recent projects such as the Brandon Estate in Camberwell.

OWEN BAKER
BRITISH ASSOCIATION OF LANDSCAPE INDUSTRIES Since joining the association in 2017, Owen Baker has “shown his passion for the industry through the work that he tirelessly delivers” for members. He was integral during the pandemic, continually writing and updating guidance and never complaining about his workload. “There are not many like him in this industry and he certainly deserves to be recognised for all his hard work and sterling efforts on behalf of the association and its members.”

GREENWOOD PLANTS Taryn Barker has been with Greenwood Plants for nearly 10 years and has become the “glue that holds the sales team together”. Regardless of the challenge, she is unfazed, being “an outstanding member of staff” who clients regularly praise for her speedy response to quotes, “unwavering client care and incredible efficiency” – “she is a star,” says one nominator.
DAVE BRADBURY GEORGE DAVIES TURF
For more than 10 years at George Davies Turf, Dave Bradbury has “provided a high level of customer service” and “devotes his workdays to over deliver and achieve on every order.” He has enhanced the service the supplier offers, all whilst building a network of industry relationships. “His kindness and empathy shine through like nothing I’ve experienced before,” says one nominator.

ROY CANDLIN GROUND CONTROL
As a “shining example of someone who goes above and beyond in his support for others”, Roy Candlin established a Special Education Needs (SEN) internship that helps/mentors students through to a grounds maintenance apprenticeship. He also organises and encourages charity work. “Whilst supporting these individuals and charity endeavors, Roy continues to deliver quality services to his clients and is responsible for one of the biggest clients at Ground Control.”
KATE COONEY PERENNIAL
Kate Cooney has been “the face of Perennial within the landscape sector” for more than four years, attending as many events as possible to create new contacts and build on existing relationships. She is a “passionate advocate” for the charity and has “almost singlehandedly” raised the profile of Perennial within the sector, enabling it to help more people within landscaping.
BARRIE DUESBURY LIVING WALLS
Pre-pandemic, Barrie Duesbury had been a horticulture lecturer, teaching and supporting those with varying skill levels. He has creatively used technology, such as developing talking plant labels to assist those with difficulty hearing. Duesbury now works as a nursery operative and continues to find opportunities to share his knowledge. Those who nominated him said he is “incredibly selfless” and “deserves a medal”.

FROSTS LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION Eddie Everest joined Frosts more than 40 years ago as a 15-year-old labourer and “has dedicated his working life” to the company ever since. No matter the task, he carries it out “with a smile and a positive attitude. Our clients love Eddie; nothing is ever too much trouble for him. Eddie is a hero in our eyes and deserves recognition.”

TIM O’HARE ASSOCIATES Called the “cornerstone” of the business, Sharon Frost has helped Tim O’Hare Associates to grow and operate as the thriving consultancy it is today through her “hard work, commitment and dedication”. Over the last nine years, she has continued to take on more responsibilities, including managing the soil testing department and organising the successful Soil Conferences. “No task is too much trouble” and “she is always prepared to go the extra mile.”

“In simple terms, we cannot run the business without her,” says one nominator. Louise Granger goes above and beyond the role of office administrator, taking on a myriad of tasks to help the business not just function but progress. She is “invaluable” – even offering her own garden for product development. “How does any other business function without a Louise?”

Frankie Patman has been “central to the success” of Maylim through her role as marketing manager, “making a significant positive impact across all aspects of her work.” From building the company’s recognition, to being pivotal in introducing mental health first aiders and engaging with charities, through to being behind Maylim’s successful award submissions, her “contribution personifies that of an unsung hero.”
RAY STEPHENSON TALASEY GROUP
“Ray Stephenson is a lifesaver: both a literal one and a metaphorical one.” He stopped to help a woman who looked unwell at a show last year, and thanks to his intervention and seeking medical assistance, helped to prevent a life-threatening condition from becoming fatal. At Talasey, he set up what is affectionately known as ‘Fight Club’, where its network of installers can draw on his experience. “To the members of Fight Club, Ray is a hero.”

THE THURMAN CONSULTANCY “Untiring” in his support of the industry, Peter Thurman is “a powerful advocate for the highest quality of training and professional practice” and is more than willing to share his experience and knowledge with others. He “will happily contribute in an effort to secure a positive outcome for an issue or position that he holds deeply,” all with the goal of enhancing the horticultural sector and those in it.

REMUS MANAGEMENT LTD Changing the way Remus approaches estate management, Mal Vickers “has added a layer to our company that no-one else could,” bringing landscape and ecology to the forefront. He’s introduced an estate management training academy for Remus’ property managers too, even saving up cereal boxes to make a SuDS model to use in one of the sessions. “Mal’s knowledge in his field is second to none, but above all, he will do anything he can to help colleagues and clients.”
RICHARD WAGSTAFF RJW LANDSCAPES LTD
Richard Wagstaff’s dedication to his staff is awe-inspiring. He treats them like family and, whilst trying to keep the business going during the pandemic, he’d often not take a wage and dip into his own savings to ensure employees were still paid when work was sparse. He has an Employee Assistance Programme to look after their wellbeing and provide confidential support where needed. “Richard goes above and beyond for his staff, often to the detriment of his personal life and finances.”
FERN SNOWLING MAJESTIC TREES
The go-to guru for moving and handling trees in Airpots up to 5,000L and 13m tall, Fern Snowling has been called “unflappable” as well “extremely hard working” and “humble”. She has been with Majestic Trees for 16 years and is a “critical member” of the team who “makes what most people consider impossible look easy,” so the industry’s leading designers and landscapers ask for her to bring in their trees.
