Artwork Commission for Lieberman Center for Health and Rehabilitation
CJE SeniorLife is accepting proposals for an original, site-specific artwork for CJE’s Lieberman Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Skokie, Illinois. Historical and Cultural Background, CJE SeniorLife and Lieberman Center for Health and Rehabilitation Since 1971, CJE SeniorLife has enhanced the lives of older adults in metropolitan Chicago, helping them pursue lives of meaning, independence and good health. In 2010, CJE’s comprehensive, nonprofit network of programs and services provided more than 18,000 older adults and their families with everything from food, housing and transportation to caregiving support and consumer assistance. The range of programs and services includes home health, dementia care, skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, lifelong learning opportunities, personal care and residential options. Since 1981, thousands of older adults have called Lieberman Center their home. CJE’s long-term skilled nursing residence in Skokie is a community in the truest sense of the word. Lieberman residents develop strong relationships with one another and Lieberman staff and volunteers. Lieberman’s diverse population includes patients recuperating in the Haag Pavilion for Short-term Rehabilitation and residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Project Summary The project should be a creative interpretation of a traditional tribute/donor wall that reflects the strong sense of community at Lieberman Center. The purpose of the artwork is to
recognize those who have a heartfelt and enduring connection to Lieberman (former and current Lieberman residents, their families, CJE staff, the general community) by incorporating their names into the actual artwork in some way. The selected artwork will be installed on the first-floor, near the entrance to the residence’s main community space. Requirements • A creative proposal for an original artwork including sketches or visual representation of concept. • Artwork must accommodate the names of up to 613 individuals. •
Proposals should provide plans and specifications for including additional names should a complete list of names not be available prior to installation.
•
Artwork should be site sensitive, relevant to the Lieberman community, enhance visual character and reflect the spirit of CJE’s mission and values.
•
Approximate site dimensions are 133” wide x 81.5” high, allowing for a 12” clearance from floor, within a recessed area of 13.5” on an interior, non-weight-bearing wall (see site photographs).
•
Proposals must include fabrication and installation plans and timeline.
•
Artwork should require minimal to no maintenance and not block or impede use of the common area near the site.
•
Finalists’ designs are subject to review by Lieberman Center’s architect of record.
