Many of the residents of this area are either in the military or family members of the military. The city is close to Joint Base Lewis McChord, making it a beautiful community to join if the military is your profession. The most notable landmark is Pacific Lutheran University, a private college that was founded in 1890. Thousands of students fill the campus each year and add to the charming sense of community brought on by the history of this town.
