The next few pages features the brand new wellness spa, ‘Serenity Spa’, which has opened in Bournemouth, Dorset. It would make a lovely day trip for you, your family and friends since we are now coming out of lockdown.

THE SERENITY SPA

Welcome to ‘Serenity Spa’; the new calming wellness spa situated in Bournemouth, Dorset. The spa has been designed by interior designer Elizabeth Hand. The building has carried out construction since 2019 and opened in May 2021. It has been built during the pandemic and therefore considers all aspects of social distancing and keeping the customers safe is our top priority. The spa currently includes a welcome reception area with a waiting area, three treatment rooms and a yoga studio on the top floor. It also plans to extent it’s build out the front to include a heated outdoor pool that looks over Boscombe Beach.

Short story from interior designer, Elizabeth Hand.

This spa project is a development with a common ideology, with extensive qualitative research, studies and application of psychological behaviours that reflects in the practice in this design. By exploring the healing properties that brings comfort to people under the influence based of science. The key idea in this project is to produce a spa where people can visit post lockdown that gets them away from all the social stresses and anxiety that many are facing. It also focuses on the connection between the mind and body; in other word “sense”. The most significant aspect is to surround things that affects people’s minds. Therefore, my intent in this project is to design a space with natural healing properties, without ignoring the qualities of physical context backed up with an extensive and strong scientific research basis. Numerous studies confirm the health benefits of using healing elements such as plants, well air quality when incorporated in a successful architectural design project, thus the large artificial plant wall. Research shows that it had effective results and statistically significant data. One of the major elements mentioned was the natural physicality. The element of nature, especially natural sunlight, which can not only reduce symptoms of depression and improve an individual’s mood, hence the use of large-scale windows looking over Boscombe Beach. Those windows would be able to create a field of sunlight that would pour into the space where people could sit and absorb the natural light when waiting for their treatment. According to the effects of people’ surrounding on the healing process, it includes many aspects, such as low saturation colour, warm lighting, senses even the arrangement of spatial design, detail onto furniture edge. Therefore, all furniture within my scheme is curved with no straight sharp edges. Although the lighting can be altered it will be set at a warm temperature to create a comforting homely environment. Everything is spaced out into different zones; reception area, waiting area, corridor and treatment rooms so that each customers gets their own unique experience that is kept organised and spacious.

Treatment ROOM

Three identical treatment rooms are found on the first floor of the spa. The treatment room offers a facial using One Ocean beauty products. The spa has collaborated with One Ocean Beauty, an Australian beauty brand that has a partnership with Oceana that supports the protection and preservation of our world’s oceans. This clean and clinically proven beauty brand not only works through cutting-edge Blue Biotechnology but has been scientifically proven age-defying marine actives, targeted to achieve specific beauty and wellness results.
