November 2021
H
ello and welcome to the November edition. Did everyone remember to turn their clocks back?!
Remembrance Day is on Sunday 14th November this year, with Armistice Day on 11th November. I’m sure by now most of you will have heard the awful news about Jed Mason, a local plumber? Lots of fundraising events are happening around Barnstaple to try and help Jed and his family. One of these is featured on page 6 if you are able to attend any of them. A great event happening soon is the Children’s Hospice South West - Santa’s on the Run. Find all the details on page 47 and get entering! Now it’s really getting chilly, so get your scarfs and hats out and get ready for the Firework displays around us. Please remember to make sure your pets are safe though!! We are most certainly now in the run up to Christmas with lots of Christmas Fayres now being thought about. Remember to support your local independent traders, this year more than ever they need your support. Well done to our competition winner who has won tickets for four people to have an ice skating session, followed by a meal and a hot drink at the brand new to Barnstaple Christmas Village North Devon. Remember this all starts on 19th of November!! Have a wonderful November and take care.

POLICE Crime Figures for the Barnstaple Sector over 28 days, to 29/09/21
We have 101 for the Police and 111 for the NHS... now 159 will connect you directly to your bank. You can call them when:
Burglary Dwelling Burglary Non-Dwelling Violence with Injury Violence without injury Robbery Shoplifting Other Theft Criminal Damage Public Order Vehicle Offences
5 3 36 47 0 26 11 42 26 4
Someone contacts you saying they’re from your bank – even if they are not suspicious. You receive a call asking you to transfer money or make a payment – even if it seems genuine. You receive a call about a financial matter and it seems suspicious.
If possible, call 159 from a different phone as scammers can keep the phone line open, so that even if you hang up to dial another number, the line may still be connected to the scammer. If it’s not possible to use another phone then wait for at least 10 minutes before you call. Please remember 159 will never call you. Only a fraudster will object to you calling 159. Full details can be found at Stop Scams UK’s website: https://stopscamsuk.org.uk/159 Road Safety Week 16-21 November – Operation Snap The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners’ Roads Policing Roads Safety Survey received 66,000 responses which revealed that 77% of respondents had witnessed people committing traffic offences on their roads. This is not acceptable.
This Road Safety Week, Devon and Cornwall Police would like to raise awareness of ‘Operation Snap’. Operation Snap is a secure online facility which allows submissions of video and photographic evidence relating to driving incidents that members of the public have witnessed. It has been produced with the support of the Department for Transport. If you are 18 or over and willing to sign a witness statement, please send digital video or photos of driving offences (not speeding) that you have witnessed to the police at: https://operationsnap.devon-cornwall.police.uk/ Read the FAQs carefully first at: www.dc.police.uk/opsnap Together we can help to keep our roads safe.
