We hope you are well and have avoided all of these horrible bugs going around at the moment! April certainly lived up to its name with April showers! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that May is kinder to us all.

We have two bank holidays this month to look forward to, the first one on 6th and the second one on the 27th. Make the most of the lovely long weekends.

During May the North Devon Hospice have their annual Nightwalk, this is on Saturday 11th May. Good luck and enjoy it if you have entered.

Byeways Bowling Club in Fremington are holding an open day on Sunday 12th May from 10am4pm for anyone interested in learning to bowl.

We have registered coaches and all equipment will be supplied so come along and try it and enjoy an afternoon outside that will not cost you anything. We are a friendly bunch and anyone attending will be made most welcome.

We are a small group of volunteers who raise funds for M.N.D. This is a fatal and progressive disease that affects the motor neurones. These are the nerves that control the muscles.

As the nerve cells die the muscles waste away, robbing the person of the ability to do everyday things such as walking, talking and swallowing. Life expectancy is approximately two years.

Our committee are all getting older and we desperately need volunteers. The M.N.D. Association has many helpful leaflets and also a web site. www.mndassociation.org.

If you like walking and discovering new parts of our beautiful countryside, why not join the North Devon Ramblers on one of their walks. You don’t have to be a member to sample up to 3 walks, just turn up at the appointed time and place and meet other members of the group. All walks are led by an experienced walker who can answer any questions about the walk.

Here are the walks in May:

Wednesday 1st May -Meet at Marwood Church at 10.30 for a leisurely walk around Marwood (6.5 miles)

Saturday 11th May – Meet at Selworthy Car Park at 10.30 for Walk 2 of Pilgrims Way. (10 miles). For more details, see the website.

Tuesday 14th May – Meet at Steps Bridge NT Car Park west of Dunsford at 10.30 for a 6 mile woodland stroll through the Teign Valley.

Wednesday 15th May – Meet at the corner of Homer Road, Braunton at 10.15 for a lane walk of 8 miles

Tuesday 21st May – Meet in the car park at Lee Cross, near Woolacombe at 10.15 for an 8-mile walk taking in the coast path around Morte Point.

Thursday 23rd May – Meet at Prewley waterworks, south of Okehampton at !0.30 for a 7 mile walk on the edge of Dartmoor.

Saturday 25th May – Meet at Barnstaple Bus Station at 9.00 to get the bus to Horns Cross and walk back to Westward Ho! Returning to barnstaple by bus. (7.5 miles)
