Devon and Cornwall Alert
Devon and Cornwall Alert is a two-way community messaging system operated by Devon and Cornwall Police. The system which is free to join helps us to connect with our communities, it tells people what is happening in their area and allows them to respond directly with any information.
The system is designed to allow people who register to choose the type of information they would like to receive concerning crime and anti-social behaviour, witness appeals, crime prevention, community events etc. Business can also register and will receive messages relevant to their business type and also local area.
Subscribers will not be notified about every crime or incident that happens in their community. Our aim is to send relevant information where we believe to do so will reduce the opportunity for crime and anti-social behaviour or will help Devon and Cornwall Police solve a crime. This of a particular help when we are looking for high risk missing people when time is critical and the more people who have a description of the missing person the more chance we have of finding them.

Local Organisations to Benefit from Parish Grants
Organisations in Braunton will benefit from grants totalling £7500. Chair of Braunton Parish Council, Councillor Marguerite Shapland, announced the successful recipients of its grant scheme at the Annual Parish meeting held on 11 April. The grants are made possible from income from the two car parks in the village enabling reinvestment in our local community. Projects include encouraging students into bowling; sensory storytime; improvements to the museum’s model railway; essential maintenance of community buildings; planting along Exeter Road; supporting Academy students to visit Plouescat in France; contribution to fundraising event costs; upkeep of the churchyard; village Christmas lights; as well as the wonderful community of volunteer drivers who help with essentialtripsto hospitalsetc.

The Parish Council has once again agreed to take part in No Mow May to benefit wildlife and allow wild flowers to provide vital food for pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Live Well in Braunton are going to ask local children to design a sign at the Earth Day event on Sunday 21 April 2024. The signs, which will read “No Mow May, do it for the Bees”, should be ready to installinthefirstweekinMay.

Ava is a seven-year-old Hungarian Vizsla looking for a loving home at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Rehoming Centre.
Ava arrived in our care without knowing life in a home but now she is having a lovely time, and enjoying lots of TLC, with one of our wonderful Home from Home foster carers.
She is a gentle and affectionate girl who loves home comforts such as snoozing on the sofa after a walk. She loves her food and treats, knows how to ‘sit’ and she responds to her name. She is a quick learner too and is now housetrained.
Ava is worried by visitors to the home and becomes unsettled in their presence so is seeking a quieter home environment without too many guests. Out and about she enjoys her walks and is confident to visit most places including the beach and cafes. She is happy to meet and greet other dogs and when she knows a dog, she likes a play. She would prefer a home where she does not have to travel too often as although she is happy to get in the car she does not currently enjoy travelling. This may change over time when she knows car journeys result in fun adventures!
Ava is looking for a home with a loving family and she could live with teenage children. She would like to be the only dog. She has no history of being with a cat or small furries, but she has been okay around sheep and horses. In her foster home she has been happy to be home alone for a few hours, but time alone in her new home will need building up gradually once she has settled in and understands she has found her forever home with a family who will always come back to her.

Cat of the MonthMaggie
Meet beautiful Maggie who sadly lost her home at the age of nearly 16 when her owner passed away. A kind acquaintance offered to give her a home but after just a few days she found living with another cat so stressful that she started to over groom and pull lumps of fur out so her magnificent coat is now somewhat patchy! She is such a sweet natured little puss who will come to you for some fuss and a stroke while showing her approval with a loud purr and often will even enjoy a little play with a few toys. She does still like to go outside when she wants and has had the use of a catflap in the past. She has had her senior medical check up while in our care and been given a clean bill of health. This has been such a great upheaval for her that so far we have not heard her miaow but we are sure that in the right quiet home where she can be the only pet with no young children and a human companion to love her once more her voice will return one day.
