Early bird discount for Care for Kids Barnstaple 10K 2024
Sign up now for the Care for Kids annual Barnstaple 10k in July, and you’ll get an early bird discount on your entry fee.
The Care for Kids Barnstaple 10k will take place on Sunday 7 July 2024, starting and finishing at Barnstaple Rugby Club. There will be a medal and t-shirt for all finishers and prizes for the fastest runners in each age category. Early bird entry is available until the end of February, at a discounted rate of £22 for affiliated runners and £24 for unaffiliated runners.

It’s a largely flat route, which makes it the ideal race for beginners and experienced runners hoping to achieve a personal best. The Barnstaple 10k is supported by headline sponsors Brewer, Harding & Rowe Solicitors and there is the opportunity for other local businesses to sponsor the event. Get in touch with Care for Kids North Devon if your business can help.
Care for Kids Charity Manager, Jacky Massos, says: “In 2023 our 10K raised over £7,200 for our charity - it was fantastic. We want this year to be even bigger, so we’re encouraging people to enter early. Get in quick if you want to take advantage of our early bird offer. We also need volunteers and more sponsors, so if you’d like to do something amazing for our small charity, please get in touch.”
All proceeds from the run will go towards local charity Care for Kids North Devon, which provides financial support to North Devon families who have a child diagnosed with a life threatening illness or condition. Care for Kids also carries out enhancements at the children’s ward at North Devon District Hospital.

Sign up online at www.careforkidsnorthdevon.org.uk and join the ‘Care for Kids Barnstaple 10k run’ Facebook page (@careforkidsnorthdevon10k) to get the latest news and information about the event.

A new book out in April 2024 is highlighting some of the best walks with swims in North Devon. Wild Swimming Walks North Devon and Exmoor, by Sophie Pierce and Matt Newbury, contains 28 walks, all with swimming spots en route, along with maps and directions.
For Sophie and Matt, it is all about empowering people to explore the wonderful countryside on their own doorstep. Says Sophie : “We are fortunate to live in such a stunning part of the world, it’s something we perhaps take for granted. The coast of North Devon is unparallelled in its beauty, as is the countryside inland. We want people to discover the joy of going on adventures close to home. And by swimming as well as walking, the whole experience of being outdoors in nature is enriched.”

This is something that many people in North Devon are already realising, with active swimming groups in Westward Ho!, Appledore, Saunton and Ilfracombe, to name just a few. Sophie and Matt say the local community has been incredibly welcoming, helping with research and sharing ideas and top tips, and many have contributed photos to the book.
The guide contains detailed descriptions as well as maps and directions, of numerous outings in and around North Devon, in many locations including Clovelly, Appledore, Westward Ho!, Torrington, Umberleigh, Croyde, Ilfracombe and Watermouth Bay.
Wild Swimming Walks Exmoor and North Devon is available from Wild Things Publishing and in all good bookshops, priced £14.99 . https://wildthingspublishing.com/product/ wild-swimming-walks-exmoor-devon/
