1st Chivenor Scout Group

Scouting is not all scarves and woggles. It is about fun, friendship, adventure and learning new skills. We are a growing, adventure-based organisation with our young people working towards earning badges and awards.

Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive and influential contribution to society and provides opportunities to explore new skills and develop ambition.

We are an active group with nearly 50 young people enjoying a wide range of activitiesincludingkayaking, surfing, climbing, navigation, firstaid, firelighting, cooking, shelter building, camps, sleepovers, adventure hikes, and beach trips to name but a few!

1st Chivenor Scout Group needs flexible volunteers to help deliver everyday adventure and friendship to even more young people in and around Braunton. What is stopping you from joining the fun today? Our leaders and helpers come from a range of backgrounds, and all have work, families, and life to juggle –some might even be your next-door neighbour. Just an hour a week could make a huge difference.

Working with young people not your thing? Volunteer in a way that’s good for you – we are always looking for support behind the scenes! Maybe you could be a trustee, look after our equipment, or do some admin from home? Volunteering isn’t just about giving something back. It’s also about doing something that’s good for you. Volunteering gives you career-boosting skills, improves your wellbeing, and helps you make connections with friends, family, and your local community.

The best part is that no previous experience is necessary, and you can give as much or as little time as you like.

Build your skills. Boost your happiness. Connect with your local community. So, what are you waiting for? Get in touch to find out about how volunteering can help you. For an informal chat please email teamchivenor@gmail.com, or call Judy Aldrich-Smith on 07826 385553.

Patch is an adorable four-year-old Staffordshire Bull – full of fun and affection.

He adores a fuss and snuggles with the people he knows, and he likes to chill on the sofa with you. He is initially shy around new people so enjoys quieter walks where there isn’t too much hustle and bustle.

Patch likes fun and adventure and is happy to travel in the car to get to new destinations. He can be worried by other dogs, however with careful introductions he can walk alongside them and has made a few walking buddies here at the rehoming centre. He is housetrained, and he knows his basic training.

Patch is looking for a loving home with adults and no other pets. He has good history of settling well in a home environment and has been known to like to sleep in his owner’s bed!

If you think you could give Patch the loving home that he deserves please take a look at his profile on Dogs Trust’s website www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming

Cat of the Month - Nana

Our longest residentPoor Nana is wondering why no-one wants him! He has been in our care much longer than any other cat and he has witnessed other cats coming in and finding new homes whilst he sits all alone in his pen. He did once have someone come specifically to see him, but they fell in love with another pair of cats before they even got to Nana, and left with them instead!

Nana is in the prime of his life at 6 years of age and has been given a clean bill of health by our vet. He can be a little shy at first but soon starts head butting and tapping for attention, although he will let you know when he has had enough!

Nana needs to be the only cat as he really doesn’t like other felines and would probably best suit an adult only family, or a home with older children.

We know Nana was once a much loved pet but despite extensive efforts, we have been unable to find his original owners and can only surmise that he either jumped in a delivery vehicle from who knows where, or he simply was abandoned as no longer wanted! Either way, he now desperately needs to find a new, permanent and loving home to call his own.

We have six Ukrainian refugees living in or near Braunton. Some of them have been here for over six months now and are looking for their next accommodation. Do you have a place to rent, or a spare room you would be willing to offer for at least six months to aid a refugee?

We can help you become a sponsor for someonewho has already been in England for six months or longer. Most already have jobs and know some English. As a sponsor you would be paidby thegovernment (currently £500 a month) tax free and without affecting your council taxor benefits. You could meet thembeforemaking a decision and you would all be supported 24/7 byThePickwell Foundation.

Also,if you can offer a job (eg cleaning) to a Ukrainian lady in the early stages of learningEnglish please getin touch.
