Be a good mate and keep your friends safe tonight
Enjoying a night out on a long sunny summer evening may bring many temptations which can be enjoyed safely (ice cream in moderation, of course!), but the one you must avoid is drinking alcohol and then driving. Any amount of alcohol can impair your judgement enough to cause a tragedy for you, your family or for other innocent road users. The best advice is not one for the road, it's none for the road.
Drink driving is one of the top five causes of death and serious injury on our roads. You must also be very careful the morning after a session on the booze. Contrary to popular belief, sleep, drinking coffee, taking a shower, eating a full English breakfast do NOT eliminate alcohol from your system. Only time does that: One hour per unit, plus another hour from the last drink you had. Even then, this is only a guide.

“Exciting volunteering opportunities have arisen within South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust for Community First Responders to join Community First Responder schemes across North and East Devon.
A Community First Responder (CFR) scheme is made up of a group of trained volunteers who within the community in which they live or work attend emergency calls on behalf of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to provide patient care, including basic life support, until the arrival of an emergency ambulance.
We welcome applicants from throughout North and East Devon; however we are particularly interested in people from the following areas:
Axminster, Bideford, Brampford Speke, Braunton, Exeter Countess Wear, Exeter Quay, Great Torrington, Hartland, Hatherleigh, Holsworthy, Honiton, Ilfracombe, North Tawton, Okehampton, Seaton, Sidmouth, Winkleigh
Applications will also be considered for the follow locations: West Hill, Bow, Crediton, Culmstock, South Molton, Tedburn St Mary
As a volunteer and a member of a Community First Responder Scheme you would provide this community based service willingly and without pay. This role is highly rewarding and offers opportunities to meet new people and learn valuable lifesaving skills through the training provided by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
Applicants will have a good all round education; a full driving license held for at least one year, with no more than 6 current penalty points and have access to a vehicle with current tax, MOT and insurance for your use. Following shortlisting, applicants will be invited to attend a formal interview whereby they will be expected to have some knowledge of the role and South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust. Candidates will be required to attain the Level 3 Award for First Responders on Scene during training in order to complete the recruitment process.
To make your application stand out it is vital you include what would make you a exceptional Community First Responder and how you meet the person specification for the role. Please be aware, if there is not currently a Community First Responder scheme running within a 3 mile radius of your home postcode you may not be short listed. Should you wish to respond from your work place as well as or instead of your home address, please detail this in the additional information section.

We had three categories - Children, Families and Businesses and we were delighted with the numbers of entries we received andthestandardswereexceptional.’

Bea is a beautiful two-year-old American Bulldog cross who is looking for a home from Dogs Trust Ilfracombe rehoming centre.
Bea is a clever, lively, and bouncy young girl. She adores playing with toys, and amongst her favourites are either footballs, or squeaky toys or something to play tug with. Bea will need mental stimulation such as trick training, scent games, and puzzle toys alongside physical exercise as an outlet for her energy. Bea is happy to travel in the car to get to the next exciting location to go for walkies. She does not mind if other dogs join her on her walks, however she can be worried by boisterous dogs, and prefers ones with a calmer nature.
Bea’s ideal home would be with fun, loving, and active adult adopters. She could potentially live with another dog in the home. Previous experience of owning a Bull breed would be ideal, or someone willing to research the breed. Bea is housetrained, and once she is settled in her new home, she would be happy being left for a few hours.
Low populated areas for her walks are best initially, so she does not have to feel overwhelmed by too much going on around her. Bea can be wary of making friends with new people, so we ask any potential adopters to be prepared to visit the rehoming centre a few times so you can get to know each other.
If you think you could give Bea the loving home that she deserves please take a look at her profile on Dogs Trust’s website www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming to begin the virtual adoption process.

They have always been together so we are looking for a home where they can remain this way for their final years. Both handsome black cats with beautiful bright eyes all they are waiting for is someone to love and care for them. They have never lived with other cats but have shared their home with a dog.
