Councils to Tackle Abandoned Vehicles in Braunton

There has been an increase in the number of abandoned vehicles being reported in Braunton, and the Parish Council are coordinating a response with North Devon Council and are in close contact with the Police. The Council has had a problem with unauthorised vehicles in Caen Street car park for some months and during the busy summer period these spaces are needed for the additional visitors. Vehicles being abandoned elsewhere in the village are taking up spaces needed by residents, visitorsandcarers.

Of course, the vehicle owner may be abroad or the vehicle may have broken down but if it is suspicious you can contact the relevant authorities. If you think it may have been abandoned you can first check if a car is taxed or mot’d by visiting the government website vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

When to Contact North Devon Council - An abandoned vehicle with no tax or mot can be reported to northdevon.gov.uk/environment/ street-care/abandoned-vehicles

NDC may investigate vehicles which are alleged to be abandoned. Abandonment is considered likely if atleastoneofthefollowingapplies:

• Thereisnoregisteredkeeperon thedatabaseandthevehicleis untaxed

• Ithasbeenstationaryfora significantlengthoftime

• Itissignificantlydamaged,run downorunroadworthy

• Itisburnedoutorinastate whichcouldbeanimmediaterisk topublicsafety

• Thenumberplatesaremissing

When to contact the Police - You can only report a vehicle with no MOT to the police if it’s being used on a road. You can not report abandonedvehiclestothePolice.

When to contact the DVLA - To report a vehicle that appears to be untaxed but is being used or kept on the road it can reported on the government website here contact.dvla.gov.uk/reportuntaxed-vehicle

Hedgehog Highway Project

Can you help us to make Braunton a more hedgehog friendly parish? Did you know that hedgehogs can travel up to 2 miles a night! If you have a wall or fencing around your property this could be inhibiting access to allow them to forage for food and meet mates. A Hedgehog Highway is a 5 inch gap in a fence or wall allowing access for Hedgehogs.

Braunton Parish Council have signed up for the Hedgehogs R Us Highway Project and are offering free hedgehog shaped fence surrounds to raise awareness to the plight of Hedgehogs. The fence surrounds are made of recycled plastic and can be easily fitted to allow hedgehogs to travel through your neighbourhood. The surroundsarefreeandavailable

Pudding’s perfect match - could it be you?

Pudding is a six-year-old little Collie cross at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Rehoming Centre. He is looking for a loving home with patient and understanding adopters who will take things at his pace.

Once Pudding knows and trusts you, you will find him to be loving and affectionate. With the people he knows, he runs to greet them and showers them with kisses. It takes a bit of time to build a bond with Pudding as he is a shy and sensitive boy. When you are friends with Pudding you can enjoy endless games of ball, playing with his soft toys and chasing him around the garden. He likes a fuss and seeks reassurance from his people. He loves to go for walks, have a good explore, and enjoy lots of sniffs.

Pudding thrives on the company of other dogs and would benefit from having daily opportunities to socialise with other canines. Adopters will need to be able to lift him into the car, and once he is in there, he travels well.

He has never lived in a home before and is fearful of indoor areas. It will take time and patience to increase confidence. Pudding is looking for a home with adult adopters with no visiting young children. He will need a quiet home environment with a minimal number of visitors. It would be beneficial for him to live in a home with a playful, confident dog, and he will need to live without cats or other small furries. Pudding’s garden will need to be safe and secure.

Elise Watson, Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe says “Pudding is a wonderful companion with so much love to give, but he requires a special home that understands his needs and is willing to help him build his confidence at his own pace. We are confident that, with the right adopters, Pudding will thrive and become a cherished member of the family.”

If you think you can offer Pudding a forever home, please visit https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/dogs/ crossbreed/3443864 for more information.

Braunton Community Garden UPDATE.

VENUE: Braunton Academy @ the vole, next to the Tennis Courts. Huge developments have been made and the contract has finally been signed. The project started 18 months ago, with additional previous research and requests for space, allotments having already taken place. We have also received kind donations of plants, veg and seeds from several members of the community, so a huge thanks for your kindness and support to help get this project up and running.

As you can see the area was overgrown and there are still areas that need clearing. The area hasn’t been utilised since pre covid, so it was a case of all hands-on deck. Clearing has started and a huge thanks to Eagle Plant Hire, who donated a mini digger to the project. 3 musketeers, Keith (our trained digger driver), Martin, and Andy spent the weekend clearing, digging, and saving the project months of hard slogger. We hope to open the garden in the autumn, if not before. With taught sessions from the wonderful Gardeners Co to be announced ASAP. So, check out the LWIB website and Facebook pages for updates. A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, Braunton Academy and in particular Clive and Andy for all their hard work and helping us realise our vision. We look forward to sharing the space with you soon.

The Benita Community Project- Pop Up Friendship meals. This amazing project was started from sadness but has brought happiness and smiles, to so many. It isn’t a Foodbank, but an opportunity for people to come together, chat or have a meal if they like. Too early? Then bring a takeaway container/Lunch box and take the food home for later. There will be a free art and craft section, for young and old to sit, relax and have some fun during the session.

Dates: Tues 10th Sept, Tues 12th Nov, Tues 10th December @ Braunton Parish Hall 2-4.30pm

A big thank you to Mandy, Ioni and the team from The Benita Community Project, for everything you do. Also, a big thanks to Devon County Council Growing Communities Fund, for giving us a grant to support this amazing project and bring the Friendship meals to Braunton.

WE NEED YOU- From November we are hoping to add more Walk Leaders to cover the Wellbeing Walks, or if your project could benefit from trained Walk Leaders *** Contact LWIB and discuss accessing free training or would like further information, contact: connect@livewellinbraunton.co.uk

Cat of the Month - Obi

Meet sweet little Obi who although only just two and half years old believe it or not now needs to find his fourth time lucky new home. The first two he lost through no fault of his own and his most recent home was short lived as he found living with a young family and a dog just too stressful.

We are now looking for a quiet home where he can be the only pet with no young children. He is an extremely affectionate puss who loves human company and has been used to having someone around the home for a lot of the time. He wants nothing more than some cuddles, plenty of fuss made of him and someone to play with.

So far he has been a bit of a home bird and has had little experience of spending much time outside although he has shown a lot of interest in watching the birds in his fosterers garden! He would therefore need a safe garden area so he can take time to gain some confidence in enjoying the great outdoors a bit more although allowing access to his home when he wants would be essential.

Could you give this lovely young boy the quiet home and companionship he needs?
