Welcome Rouge, how are you? Very well thank you, my good chap. Seriously though, we’re so thrilled to have you back in Elite. Did you have fun shooting for us? I always have fun with team Elite. We’ve known each other for more years than I’d care to admit, so it’s a fun reunion. What is like to grace our cover for the second time? A bit insane tbh, I was looking at the other one and although I still don’t have any tits, I’m so different. Inside and out! Plus I never think I’m cover material so it’s really good for my ego strokes. What was it like to shoot with ATOM? Ah it’s radical. It’s always a positive experience with ATOM, we have a lot of energy even if we are polar opposites.

IT WAS CLEAR FROM YOUR FEATURE YOU HAVE A GREAT FIGURE! WHERE DOES THAT COME FROM? DO YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT OR IS IT JUST GOOD JEANS/GENES? I GET MY TITS FROM MY DAD EVIDENTLY. www.eliteonlinemag.com
57
Photographer: ATOM
You always seem so effortless on camera, is it hard reinventing yourself for new features? It’s certainly difficult not to outfit repeat and keep it fresh. I have a lot of different hobbies and interests so I try to incorporate those a little, maybe I’ll bring my sewing machine next time and try to make it sexy. Yeah you wind that bobbin.
58
www.eliteonlinemag.com
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENTS OF 2018 SO FAR? BEING ON THE FRONT COVER AND DOMINATING YOUR INSTAGRAM FOR THE NEXT FOUR WEEKS www.eliteonlinemag.com
59
YOU HAVE SOME OF THE BEST BUTTS GOING! WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVE BODY PART? STRONG CALVES. LIKE AN OX. WITH THAT IN MIND, WHICH PERSON DO YOU THINK HAS THE BEST BUTTS AT THE MOMENT? IT’S OBVIOUSLY SIAN-MARIE. I CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT HER FOR ENVY. 60
www.eliteonlinemag.com
What are your hobbies? Upcycling furniture, event planning, painting, gaming, vegetating on the sofa pretending I have a life... You are without a doubt one of the most beautiful people we have met! Have you always thought you wanted to model or did it just happen? You are too kind to me, I feel very much
like a potato. I always wanted to, however I was the classic ugly teen. Braces (even though my teeth are still wonky), acne, bad hair, interest in medieval times. Yeah. Not model material, unless you’re over 18 and willing to show a tiddy. So I did and here I am. Something you wear with aplomb is your tattoos. We bet you are starting to put together quite a collection. What is your favourite piece? Who wrote these questions? It’s not very often I have to Google an English word. Favourite piece is either my stag by Raven Wynter or my lynx by Lado.
www.eliteonlinemag.com
61
Photographer: ATOM
So you seem to travel a lot… where has been your favourite place? Nice try, that’s the secret question to my bank account. Second favourite place in the world I have been to is probably Albufeira in Portugal. Beautiful place.
62
www.eliteonlinemag.com
Photographer: ATOM Someone once asked me to describe “incredible” in one word and I said Rouge. You’re a definite icon of just general amazingness too. Do you see yourself as a amazing person? I bet they were really impressed with your French. Whilst I’m proud of my accomplishments, I find it hard to see myself as anything other than that awkward 14yr old, trying to find her place in the world.

What’s next for you? Photography hopefully. Who knows, may be you guys will feature my work and the circle of life will be complete Inspiration is important to you, be it music, film or books. What is inspiring you at the moment? Right now I’m taking inspiration from a lot of women close to me. I’ve been blessed with a circle that build each other up and I need that in my life. It makes you a better person. Are you a homebird or someone that prefers a night on the town? Home bird. I can’t make it past midnight these days It’s been a pleasure Rouge. What are you up to after this interview is done? Dishonored 2. The people of Dunwall are relying on me. Have you got a message for your masses of fans and our lovely Elite readers? I wanna know how many people picked up on my ATOM puns. Finally, will you be coming back to us shortly as we can’t get enough of you! I truly do hope so. Rouge out.

Hey Scribbles! Welcome to Elite, for those who don’t know you, tell us a bit about yourself: I’m Scribbles, a tiny weirdo with a big heart! I spend my life away from modelling working with animals! I love gin and you’ll never find me in the same place for very long! What was it like to work with the photographer on this shoot? I had the best time, the team always make me feel my best. I was super nervous because it’s been a while since my last shoot, but I think we smashed it! If you could model for any brand, product or company, which would it be and why? I’d love to model for Dropdead! I’ve followed the brand for as long as I can remember, and I love Bring Me The Horizon too. I’m not quite sure I’m edgy enough though. Are you excited for 2018? What do you have planned? Yeah, it’s been a great year so far! Hopefully I’ll be more or less finishing my diploma! On top of that I’ve got tons of mini adventures planned that I’m excited about! Festivals and holidays keep me extremely busy in between working full time!

If you could spend winter anywhere in the world, where would you go? I love a good skiing trip, not going to lie. As much as I love sunshine, hot weather just doesn’t suit winter for me so I’d defo stick to somewhere snowy and probably rural! If you could listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? Brand New - Deja Entendu (by that I mean Avril Lavigne - Let go). On a scale of one to ten, how good looking are you? What an awful question to answer haha! I’m gonna go a 6/7? However my mum tells me I’m a 10 and that’s all that matters. What’s a guaranteed turn on for you? Hmm, confidence and someone who has their own mind. Which is pretty much the opposite of me. I like people to be straight and honest. Big turn off guys that can’t handle their alcohol or act like ‘one of the lads’. Describe your perfect photoshoot: As long as I’m laughing, feel comfortable, got all the emo tunes blasting and there are snacks and drinks... I’m happy to shoot anywhere. Who is your favourite model of 2018? JAZZ MEGAN! But also Vikki Blows will always be my favourite model. I aspire to do a duo shoot with her and I won’t stop modelling till I do <3 Where has been your favourite place to travel? I loved Phu Quoc in Vietnam! It’s a beautiful place!! What do you like most about Elite? The staff and the range of models it features!

I’m always nervous at first and I instantly just relax and enjoy myself once we start! If you could model for any brand, product or company, which would it be and why? I’ve always been a huge fan of Creep Street. Their products are always me and I’m just a huge fan of the company in general. Are you excited for 2018? What do you have planned? What’s your go to favourite movie? When I’m sick or sad I HAVE to watch Say Anything to feel better. I even have a John Cusack figure on my bookcase. If you could spend winter anywhere in the world, where would you go? I’d probably go somewhere like Bruges. After I watched Colin Farrel karate chop a little person in the film In Bruges over Christmas time, it’s always been a big want of mine. If you could listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? Cher’s greatest hits. There’s something for everyone there. What’s your favourite part of your body and why? My friend told me I had ‘big stupid cow eyes’ once and I liked that. So I’ll say my big stupid cow eyes. On a scale of one to ten, how good looking are you? I mean some days I look like I am homeless and some days I’m a fierce queen, so on average I’d say a solid 7/8 Describe your perfect photoshoot? It would probably be with Scribbles, somewhere a little darker. Like a dive bar situation. I think that we would look great. Where has been your favourite place to travel? I spent my last birthday in Italy. It was way too hot and I complained a lot at the time, but the place was amazing. It was a really small town and was just a beautiful place. Photographer: ATOM

This question is difficult because I’m addicted to movies, I have a collection of DVD’s and I’m a fan of many specific actors and directors, so it’s impossible to choose just one favorite movie! Haha. If you could spend winter anywhere in the world, where would you go? I don’t like winter! haha! I’m one of those Brazilians who prefer heat and drink a cold beer on the beach or by the pool! Haha. If you could listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? Anything from Aerosmith! What’s a guaranteed turn on for you? To see my house clean! Where has been your favourite place to travel? Unfortunately I don’t travel as much as I want, so when I do, anywhere is good for me! What do you like most about Elite? I think the idea of an online magazine is very good because it gives the opportunity for models like me, in Brazil, to be able to be published without having to travel to that and with this, we have chances to show our work to people of many countries! gary numan @ hull city hall Support: nightmare air 20th march 2018
You could be fooled into thinking that this current stint of shows represents a comeback effort, but those with a keenly trained eye will probably tell you that this genre spanning synth pioneer never actually went away from the limelight. In fact, Gary Numan didn’t actually ever really lose momentum. With a touring schedule that never really halted and an incredible live show he is still pushing the boundaries and experimenting with his genre. Tonight, returning to the Hull City Hall for the first time since the ‘Warriors’ Tour in 1983 (that’s a whole thirty-five years ago) there is a lot of excitement and hype for the return of the ex Tubeway Army frontman. The venue seems a little chaotic but steadily fills in time for the support act making their way to the stage. Los Angeles alternative rockers Nightmare Air fill the auditorium with a festival of sound and lights. They bring a mixture of boy/girl harmonies and psychedelic synth fuelled loops. Their wailing guitars at points likened to audio recording of whale song. The crowd receive them well and appear entranced above all else. The band emit periodical bursts of high energy before returning to more mellowed out sounds throughout their set. Female bassist and co-vocalist Swaan Miller has an aura of Hole’s Melissa Auf Der Maur in both spirit and energy and fuses together the overall euphoric sound of the band. As the house lights go down for the headline act, Numan’s band pace onto the stage one by one bathed in a maniacal attack of strobes followed lastly by the man himself. Opening the set with ‘Ghost Nation’ the intro track to his most recent album Savage, it quickly becomes apparent that Numan doesn’t lack stage presence despite a forty-year career. It’s difficult to acknowledge as the night progresses that this is an artist who recently turned sixty years old, the level of showmanship involved

gary numan tonight could confuse you into thinking this was a young man in the very early days of his career. None the less he has the audience eating out of his palms and its incredible to see what a powerful influence he has over his spectators. The set list is varied and career spanning including some of Numan’s biggest hits such as ‘Down in the Park’, ‘Cars’ and ‘Are Friends Electric’ whilst playing a large portion of his latest albums tracks including single ‘My Name is Ruin’. The piece features his daughter Persia on vocals, although she was unable to make the show tonight, Numan stands before a giant screen adorned with the image of his daughter performing her verses in a pre-recorded format. The set is long and Numan later returns with his band to perform an encore of ‘Prayer for the Unborn’ and ‘My Last Day’ amid chanting crowds demanding one last lap of honour. The night is a memorable one and wont be forgotten quickly, its apparent Numan shows no signs of bowing out anytime soon. Words and Photos by Pat Gleeson

Brazilian metal giants Sepultura have been a force to be reckoned with for over 30 years now and show no signs of stopping at all as they bring a stellar metal lineup to Bristol on their latest tour. First up are Fit For An Autopsy who pummel the growing crowd with a mixture of rolling grooves and heavy breakdowns and frontman Joe Badolatos guttural roar setting things off just right. The band stomp through tracks like ‘Saltwound’ and ‘The Jackal’ before the closing finale of ‘Black Mammoth’, a song that is as heavy as its namesake finishes things off in a fitting manner. Goatwhore follow and simply annihilate everything in sight with a tight, vicious and sublime set that sees the crowd go berserk for the first (but not the last) time. Despite vocalist Ben Falgousts broken leg which sees him perched on top of a flight case (the injury doesn’t stop him from head banging like a maniac and air guitaring throughout the set however!), the band blast through a set that is weighted towards their crushing latest album Vengeful Ascension with the albums title track and ‘Mankind Will Have No Mercy’ masterfully executed going down so well although there is certainly room for older favourites too such as the berserk ‘Apocalyptic Havoc’ and the brutal set closer and fan favourite FBS. Goatwhore are on formidable form tonight, especially guitarist Sammy Pierre Duet who darkens the venue with the blackest of blackened metal riffs throughout and the band demonstrate exactly why they are so highly respected.

Following Goatwhore is never an easy task and Obscura find it hard to keep up with the savagery of their set initially but as the set proceeds they get heavier as they find their stride. The band are technically brilliant and as their set gains pace they come across like Domination era Morbid Angel mixed with latter day Samael complete with some searing fretwork and haunting melodies and as they end with the grinding groove of ‘Centric Flow’, they leave the stage knowing they have made their mark on Bristol tonight. Having not seen Sepultura live since 1996, it is with both curiosity and anticipation that I watch the band take the stage tonight and it has to be said that they absolutely destroy The Fleece and don’t disappoint at all. From start to finish, the audience go truly crazy as the band blast through tracks from their latest album Machine Messiah and favourites from all stages of their career with the likes of ‘Desperate Cry’, ‘Choke’, ‘Refuse/ Resist’ and ‘Arise’ being treated like the stone cold metal anthems they are. Sepultura annihilate throughout their entire set with Derrick Green demonstrating what a formidable vocalist he is, Andreas Kisser delivers timeless riffs and solos in a flawless performance and the rhythm section are as tight as they always have been. With Sepultura on such great form and with such a killer set, it will be nowhere near as long as it was before I see them live again. Words by Gavin Brown Photos by Anthony Hunt

e c n a D in v a G e c n Da & Veil of Maya @ O2 Academy, Islington 9th march 2018
Relatively early to the stage are Chicago’s Veil of Maya, a band whose contribution to this decades barrage of super-tight rhythm-focused prog-metal is clear; seen of late sharing stages with the likes of Periphery, After The Burial and Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya have enjoyed, to date, a six-album career which shows no signs of relent. The band’s set is a reasonable mix of songs old and new, looking however decidedly towards the future, and, thanks to a host of obscure samples manufacturing a seldom-quiet ambience the majority of the band’s set mutates into a quasi-hypnotic onslaught of homogenous, modulating omni-groove, indiscriminate of era. While current vocalist Lukas Magyar succeeds with valiant effort in putting his own mark on fan favourites from before his time with the band like ‘It’s Not Safe To Swim Today’, his voice is evidently better suited to songs from Matriarch and False Idol – songs he contributed to - and it is these vocal lines which create the more memorable moments of the night; from the powerful, angular counterpoint on recent single ‘Overthrow’ to the epic sing-along chorus of ‘Aeris’. One might be forgiven for mistakenly contributing Veil of Maya’s uncanny talent of sounding like a much bigger band to production wizardry and multi-tracking, and while this may be the case to an extent, the band’s live performance lacks none of the authority and weight of that on record. Tracks from early release [id] such as ‘Unbreakable’ are rawer than their studio counterparts, and tracks from False Idol more bludgeoning than theirs. The set ends with single ‘Mikasa’, the first to feature Magyar and a crucial milestone for the band it elicits the biggest crowd reaction of the set and proves that Veil of Maya are moving from strength to strength.

Minutes later, Sacramento-based post-hardcore sextet Dance Gavin Dance appear – this incarnation of the everevolving line-up of the band includes, alongside co-founder Jon Mess, mainstays Will Swan and Matt Mingus, whose guitar and drum lines, respectively, immediately and effortlessly interweave into a feel-good groove just as tight as on the record, with a little added flair. It paints the setting of a laid-back, singalong evening and any residual tension from the previous band’s blood-racing aggression is forgotten by the end of opener ‘Chucky vs. the Giant Tortoise’, as the band continues into post-Mothership standalone single ‘Summertime Gladness’. Much like their immediate predecessors, Dance Gavin Dance’s newest material is their most popular, indicative not primarily of the open-mindedness of their audiences, but of testament to the thesis that Dance Gavin Dance are still brimming with originality, and possess the swagger to convincingly do it justice. The phenomena that are Tillian Pearson’s high notes in ‘Strawberry Swisher Pt.3’ alone are worth tonight’s admission charge. In fact, neither Mess nor Pearson struggle with any of the parts handed down by previous embodiments of the band, despite constantly pushing their own boundaries on the record. The quirky quality of Mess’ lyrics and the vocalists’ knack for storytelling is allowed due and proper emphasis; the band’s understanding of dynamics in this sense is infallible. Many might be skeptical about the seemingly juxtaposed pairing of these two bands, but their summation is no miscalculation. Both bands are progressive in sentiment, for sure, and likewise both bands have an undeniable affinity for groove – their respective audiences are here to be moved. And it is this simple fact that, despite the bands’ sonic disparity, makes the evening such a monumental success. Words by Dominic Coulon

Coldbones - Where It All Began Crooked Noise Records | Release Date: 6th April 2018
Palm Reader - Braille Silent Cult | Release Date: 4th April 2018
Coastal post rock trio Coldbones have done what not many have done before, or probably anyone for that matter, created a concept record about the birth and journey of a butterfly. The idea behind the making of Where It All Began is illustrated on the albums artwork, a beautifully crafted painting with flashes of light and dark. Waking up from its cocoon to start the transformation is opener ‘Caspases’ which swells and swirls to the point of escape, unleashing the butterfly out into the world in an exciting and frantic beginning.
Good things come to those who wait, and great things come to those who wait a little more, this surely being the case for Palm Reader’s highly anticipated album, Braille. For most, their patience has been rewarded.
The record twists and turns throughout its 8 track life as it mesmerises and relaxes you but still manages to keep you on your toes to see where it all goes next. Utilising just guitars, bass and drums the three piece manage to layer and expand their sound to cover as much ground as possible, filling every nook and crack available. It’s most definitely post-rock but the explosive moments aren’t pompous or over compensating, there’s enough melody and emotion in the playing that the raw nature of the approach taken by the band shines through. Tipped for bigger things yet to come and a DIY live show with homemade visuals expect to see Coldbones popping up on your radar very soon. Words by Joshua Clarke
For any of those familiar with their past work and last year’s single Always Darkest, the trajectory implied that we’d be expecting an explosion of unchecked fury – but surprisingly, this new release is more like a small sedative into the mighty beast. The vocals have been cleaned up, the production has been polished and the flavor has become milder and more palatable for the average listener, with the introduction of more radio friendly tracks such as Clockwork and Coalesce, and the more atmospheric instrumentals like Breach sees Palm Reader moving to new realms of the market. You’ll be hard pressed to find anything as aggressive as their past work, but some admirable attempts like Swarm and Like A Wave come close. Despite this, Braille still maintains that sense of gloomy anger we’ve come to expect, particularly with this years submission for “soundtrack of the apocalypse” Inertia. It’s definitely an evolution for the band, the creative emphasis has taken the most welcome slide from the morbid to the triumphant by focusing on a more melodic approach. Expect great things in the future for this furious five piece, soon rather than later. Words by Dylan Cameron

Press To MECO - Here’s To The Fatigue Marshall Records | Release Date: 30th March 2018
TRC - Lifestyle Release Date: 30th March 2018
‘Death is the biggest thing that will ever happen to you’ according to Press To MECO, and in meditating on one of the more essential concepts of existence, the band has created something pretty big. From the first notes of ‘Familiar Ground’ to the anthemic, pounding death throes of ‘White Knuckling’, Here’s To The Fatigue is less a collection of great songs but a near-spiritual journey. Listening to the album is a little like wearing prescription glasses for the first time; a vivid new perspective pushes the listener beyond a point of no return, rendered disaffected by practically all other music.
Rowdy London crossover crew TRC are back after a five year absence on the record front. Forever fun live and always able to bring out a wry smile or a chuckle from listeners with their lyrical content. They’ve played the odd show here and there but there’s been a dark cloud of uncertainty hanging over the now four piece.
This is not an unpredictable result from Press To MECO, however, whose debut Good Intent is a pilgrimage of hooks and breakneck riffs. Even so, the instrumentation on Here’s to the Fatigue has an anger to it; more so than the previous album. Danceable but with decided influence from math and prog rock, especially on anthemic ‘The Things That We Don’t Talk About’, huge harmonies a la Fall Out Boy perpetuate a theatrical, Queen-esque sentiment particularly obvious on ‘If All Your Parts Don’t Make A Whole’ and this, paired with a compositional maturity not unlike that of Muse set Press To MECO apart from their peers. Every note is painstakingly placed and orchestrated to near-perfection. Words by Dominic George
We’ll get straight into the review now…if you came here expecting the same bruising riffs, hardcore vocals courtesy of Anthony Carroll and Chris Robson spitting fire and venom then you’d be getting exactly that. It’s business as usual from TRC and even being a man down on guitar, Ben Taylor Dingwall steps up to the plate having been essentially the bands rhythm guitarist in the past, he has learnt and succeeded in writing the TRC way…and that is what is disappointing about this EP. There’s no real variation or progression on previous material. With the UK having such a rich well of unique and challenging bands to choose from TRC may find their comeback a lot more difficult than imagined. Even opener ‘Moaner’ has a callback to ‘Bright Lights’. The band are still angry and give us a glimpse into their lives and how they juggle everything to make the band work. The loves still there for what they do and long time fans of TRC will continue the revolution they’ve helped build, but unfortunately there isn’t enough here to push TRC through to the front of the pack in the UK. It’s the same, not better, not worse, just the same. Words by Joshua Clarke
