Kennedy Morton is currently a Junior majoring in Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. This summer Kennedy will participate in the University of Oklahoma’s Spring STEAM in Italy Study Abroad Program. This program allows engineering students who desire for personal growth and selfreflection a way to broaden their horizons via international travel and educational experience. Kennedy will earn credits towards his degree while learning innovative engineering techniques from Italian based Engineering Companies. Students are selected for
the Study Abroad Program based on grade point average, personal essay, academic standing and letters of recommendation. Studying
will truly shape his view on the world. Kennedy is a Graduate of South Grand Prairie High School and is the son of Donald W. and Deborah K. Morton. He is the Grandson of Betty J. Why DMN Writer, Robert Wilonsky Needs to Be Put On Blast! Written by Arielle Johnson
If you haven’t already read last week’s Dallas Morning News article, entitled, “Dallas Could Be Forced to Repay Millions to HUD After Latest Critical Housing Audit” written by Robert Wilonsky, I would suggest you start there, if at all possible.

Once upon a time, accurate reporting meant journalists bent over backwards, to quiet their personal opinions and instead, Sherman Roberts focus on being as objective as possible. However, those times have given way to tabloid-like concerning the steps involved article publishing, requiring in disbursing funds to the readers to go over the news’ CHODOs, shows his desire with a fine tooth comb, to find strands of truth. Here are the issues we have with Robert Wilonsky’s reporting in last week’s article about what the City of Dallas may have to pay back to HUD, due to a recent audit:
3) A caption under a photo of 3 City Council members, incumbent, Carolyn Arnold and two former, Duane Caraway and Carolyn Davis at the Grand opening of Serenity Place, which he cites in his article as being one of the completed projects of CHODO - CITYWIDE, with no paperwork documenting how $2 million in federal dollars was spent, however, much later in his article, he comes back and mentions, it was the City and not Citywide that didn’t have the paperwork. Again this is misleading.

1) The title on the DMN digital article, alludes to fraud or abuse on behalf of the City of Dallas. However, none of these crimes were mentioned in the Office of Inspector General’s Report. 2) A quote Mr. Wilonsky found, made by Council member Lee Kleinman last year, regarding what the City needs, “CHDOs that can deliver hundreds of units a year, not a handful.” The fact that R.Wilonsky would arbitrarily

5) After stating Mr. Sherman Roberts of Citywide said he can account for every penny spent from HUD funding, he then quotes Mr. Roberts as saying, “I don’t think money is missing, and I don’t think anybody did anything wrong.” The saddest part about this statement is, Mr. Roberts has no idea whatsoever, in which context the quote in the former statement was used or even when and where it was gathered, because R. Wilonsky NEVER reached out to him for comment about the audit. In the type of article the quote is being used, it makes Mr. Roberts look weak and incompetent, as if he does not understand the magnitude of the situation at hand or the importance of being meticulous with recordkeeping concerning federal funds.

Campbell, who stated, “The goal is NOT to punish the city. Grantees are using funds in the manner for which they have been designed.”
