Brittney Griner sentenced to 9 years in prison. Our prayers go out to her and her family.

As she walked to school each day, Autherine Lucy was always in danger. She was the first African American student to attend the University of Alabama, and many white people did not want her to attend. On her third day of school, she had to lock herself in a classroom after an angry group of white students chased her and threw rotten eggs. However, thirty-two years later, Lucy was honored by the same college that tried to keep her from Autherineattending.Lucy was born on October 5, 1929 as the youngest of ten brothers and sisters. Born in Shiloh, Alabama, she was always very smart. Her mother Minnie Maud Hosea and her father Milton Cornelius Lucy were farmers. Lucy left Shiloh in 1947 to attend Selma University in Selma, Alabama. She earned a teaching certificate from the school, but she wanted to continue studying. She then attended a school for African Americans called Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1952. At Miles College, Lucy met Pollie Anne Myers and the two became great friends. After their graduation, Lucy and Myers decided that they wanted to get another degree. Myers decided that they should apply to the University of Alabama. This school did not allow African Americans to attend because the schools in Alabama were still segregated. “I thought she was joking at first, I really did,” Lucy said to a reporter years later. Myers was serious, and they sent their applications to the school on September 4, 1952. They received a letter back from the school nine days later. They were accepted to

All acne breakouts begin as clogged pores. When dirt, oil, and dead skin cells get stuck in your hair follicles, your skin mounts a defense and sends reinforcements to attack the debris. This results in different types of acne, like whiteheads, blackheads, cysts, and nodules. Because all acne stems from clogged pores, which can occur at any age, adults can get acne, too. How to Get Rid of Acne MedicationWithout

There are several common causes of acne in adults. Poor hygiene allows small particles that land on the skin to stay there and clog your pores, which is why it’s important to wash your face and clean your skin. Hormones fluctuate in adults just like they do in teenagers, and woman especially are at risk for hormoneinduced acne as they menstruate, get pregnant, breastfeed their babies, and go through menopause. Some medications can have acne as a side effect, and other times adults can get acne from the dirty air pollution or from eating certain foods. At SFMA, we treat your acne with an individual approach. We start with a complete examination of your skin, a discussion about your symptoms, a dive into your personal and family health history, an assessment of all medications and supplements you take, and a list of what you’ve tried, what works, and what doesn’t.

If you associate acne with teenagers, you’re not wrong. Adolescence creates the perfect storm for acne breakouts — hormone imbalance, stress, poor hygiene, and processed foods. However, if you thought you could cross acne off your list of things to deal with in adulthood, you’d be wrong. Many adults have acne, and if you’re one of them, we have good news. At Southwest Family Medicine Associates (SFMA), our extensive team of holistic physicians understands the myriad causes of adult acne and the physical and emotional damage it can create. Here, we take a closer look at the reasons acne continues into adulthood — or shows up for the first time — and how you can get rid of it without resorting to medication.

Armed with this information, we can diagnose the type of acne you have and develop a treatment plan. This may include some lifestyle changes and a new skin care routine. It may also include Fotona laser treatments. This safe and effective treatment uses Nd:YAG laser light to penetrate your skin’s outer layers and target the oil glands below. By reducing the oil production, Fotona can help prevent future acne breakouts. This treatment also triggers production of new collagen, which is one of the proteins that gives your skin its structure and resilience, so your skin heals and remodels.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra is facing mounting pressure to unilaterally lower the price of high-cost medications. A group of nonprofits just petitioned him to cut the cost of six medications, including Xtandi, a popular prostate cancer medicine manufactured by Astellas, a Japanese drug company. The petitioners argue that because the federal government helped fund the basic research that ultimately led to Xtandi, the government can seize the intellectual property rights utilized by Astellas. Even if the government could legally do that, which would rest on a dubious reading of existing law, the costs would far outweigh any benefits. It would chill all investments in drug development and dramatically slow medical Petitioners’innovation.

Think about it, we are represented in civil law through personal injury, well represented in criminal law for unfortunate reasons, but when it comes to family law and protecting families, I haven’t seen another black man. At least not one that practices family law exclusively. This is why I wrote this article, why I felt the need to have this column. Jobs data reported this week by the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that, as of the last business day of June, there are 10.7 million job openings. Hence, according to the numbers, there are many more available jobs than willing workers. At the same time, the U.S. unemployment rate’s just 3.6 percent; near a five-decade low. So, by the numbers, the economy is at full employment and still overflowing with jobs to be filled. Somewhere there is a disconnect or somebody can’t count or is fudging the jobs and employment data. How can we have two consecutive quarters of negative economy growth which is a recession definition for the last 90 years and job numbers not be affected? How can we have three consecutive months of the highest inflation print over a 40 year period and still have an unemployment rate of 3.6%? The U.S. economy couldn’t possibly be in a recession, given this robust and healthy jobs market, could it? www.elitenewsdallas.com have here is midterm election shenanigans. The Republicans saying, we are in a recession and the democrats saying the economy is strong. Complete opposite views. We all should know, jobs are the most lagged signal of a recession; and second, under the hood of Friday's great jobs data, we find that the surge in jobs was driven by individuals taking on multiple jobs because of record 40 year high inflation. Then we have treasury secretary Janet Yellen say it isn’t a recession when she stated the economy isn’t in a recession because, “job creation is continuing, household finances remain strong, consumers are spending and businesses are growing.” Somebody is smoking weed, crack or hallucinogens and need to be drug tested. Maybe the establishment is cooking the books? This week’s jobs report of employers added 528K jobs more than double the 250K jobs expected. In the meantime, tech companies are laying off tens of thousands of people. Real Estate and mortgage companies are laying off tens of thousands of peeps because interest rates have doubled and housing prices are out of reach for the average person. Amazon is laying off thousands. My beloved crypto sector is laying off thousands; even Netflix Inc., the streaming service pioneer, has already had several rounds of layoffs. In the process, it has racked up $70 million in expenses from severances while losing an additional 970,000 subscribers. What we’re seeing is a sick economy. I expect to see big layoffs in the auto sector soon. Watch the big three auto makers, that will be the nail in the coffin of our economy. This job situation has nothing at all to do with a booming economy. All those jobs are sitting there open because no one wants them. Please look inside the numbers and the types of jobs available. Oh, I forgot peeps hate math and surely won’t read because they depend on the media to give them their information whether cooked or not. Looking inside the last two negative quarters which is six months and a technical recession. Again, what is the difference in boxing between a TKO and a KO on a boxer’s record. If is a boxer is 27-0 with 20 knockouts, the record will not specify between an opponent who got knocked completely out or if the referee stepped in and stopped the fight because the other fighter was defenseless. So, in the job market we have employers who have opening but because of inflationary costs vs revenues incoming they are not hiring even though on paper it says they have openings. It’s just fluff. Based upon these numbers the reported US employment rate is the same or better than before Chucky Planned-Demic wiped out everything and everybody. I smell shenanigans. There is another survey called the household survey which came in hundreds of thousands less than the cooked establishment survey at just 179K jobs added vs 528K which the establishment’s survey came up with. Somebody is the cooking the books with a bunch of shenanigans. Also, in the past couple of days we were told gasoline stocks were up because people were driving less. Thinks about this: How did these additional 528K peeps get to their place of employment? I guess they rode to work on a magical weed/crack cloud and rode back on another weed/crack cloud. LOL!!! Contrary to what The Pusherman and Yellen or saying the jobs numbers are signaling a weak economy. What’s more, the economy’s now tilted in such a way that will make the weeks and months ahead exceedingly difficult because the numbers are cooked and inflation from the PPI goes into the CPI causing inflation and eventually deflation. in an economy that’s been crippled by extreme irresponsibility, arrogance, complacency: unfortunately, at this point, the only solution to high consumer prices is a severe 1930s-style Great Depression, which this time will be an Inflationary Depression. This is a dangerous time I expect mass public and private defaults and bankruptcies. This is why war is in the cards they are between a rock and a hard place in addition the Sons of Perdition want one world order. In the meantime, China’s drills are simulating a full attack on the Island of Taiwan. They have blocked all shipping and air service to and from Taiwan. Thanks a lot Nancy. All of this shenanigan reminds me of the Chucky Planned- Demic; redefining excuses, still Putin’s fault, everything is fine, trust experts & more high inflation memes as recession definitions get canceled & redefined like vaccines & gender! The world is a better place when millions of Christians study the Bible seriously, searching hard for the original meaning of its authors, uncovering the foundations on which all of life can be based. But the world is not a better place when those students of the Bible neglect to apply the truth of Scripture to real life, accurately and faithfully.

The applications of James’ “quick to listen… slow to speak… slow to become angry” can go on and on. And that is what is exciting about studying and applying the Scriptures. When we study the Bible we are acting as objective analysts. We commit ourselves to getting at the objective meaning that the prophets and apostles intended to convey. We do so out of respect for the authors, and even more, out of respect for God. And once we get the meaning, we enthusiastically seek to apply it to as many different life situations as we can.

• A parent whose kid is upset can choose to take the time to understand what exactly is going on rather than just reacting in anger.

• When people react negatively to a Christian leader’s decisions, the leader should not react in resentment, but listen carefully, seeking to understand and even to acknowledge the validity of at least a portion of the objection. Above all, the leader should not react in anger.

There was a group of people in Jesus’ time who prided themselves on studying the Scriptures, but their application of it was selfish and skewed. We know them as the Pharisees and Sadducees and “teachers of the law.” One day when Jesus confronted them over their interpretation of the Scriptures Jesus just came out and said: “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God” (Matt. 22:29). A shocking statement, for sure. Knowing the Scriptures means careful reading, observation, analysis, background checking, etc. and then applying the meaning of the Scriptures to real Herelife. is an extremely important principle: a particular biblical passage has a singular and specific meaning—that is, it does not have many different meanings. But a particular biblical passage does have multiple valid Forapplications.example, James 1:19-20 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.”

• Husbands and wives should take the effort to really listen to each other, which may mean asking back and forth for clarification, rather than reacting in anger, which erodes a marriage.

• When a believer is confronted by a fellowworker, it can be good Christian witness to listen to the confrontation, try to understand what it means, and to honestly engage the critic, rather than just reacting in anger.

We study this passage to get at the specific and singular meaning. We note that this injunction is similar to Proverbs in the Old Testament (which is true for much of the book of James). It is not directed at one particular group of people (as might be the case in a book like 1 Corinthians or 1 Timothy), but is a principle of healthy living for all believers. We look at key words like “listen” and “angry” and “anger.” We conclude that this passage is a general exhortation to believers that we should listen more and react less. Especially, we should hold in check any knee-jerk reaction of anger. Then we apply the singular meaning of that passage to life. The application goes to many different real-life situations, and validly so.

the University of Alabama. When it was time to fill out their paperwork, the school leaders at the University of Alabama realized that Lucy and Myers were African American. The leaders decided to change their minds about letting the women attend this school because they were not white. On September 20, 1952, the women were told that there was a mistake and that they were not welcome at the school. When the community heard about what happened to them, two of the most well-known African American civil rights lawyers, Arthur Shores and Thurgood Marshall, reached out to the two women. Shores and Marshall began working with Lucy and Myers so they could hopefully attend school. The men wrote a letter to John Gallalee, president of the university, but Gallalee refused to allow the women to become students at his school. After this disappointing news, Shores and Marshall decided to build a court case against the university. However, Marshall was working on another case that would help Lucy and Myers get approved to go to school. A year before Lucy and Myers were scheduled to go to court, Marshall and his team won the Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka case. On May 17, 1954, the United States Supreme Court ended this case by deciding that segregation was illegal. This decision meant that it was also illegal for schools to stop students from attending because of their race. Thanks to this, Lucy and Myers took their case to the US District court and won the right to attend the University of Alabama. Hoping to stop the two women from attending their school, the University of Alabama hired a private investigator to find out about their personal lives. The school found out that Myers was pregnant

when she applied to the school. Since she got pregnant before she was married, the University of Alabama was able to stop her from attending because it was against their rules to have a baby before marriage. Lucy had to start attending the all-white school alone. The university leaders did not allow her to live on campus or eat in the cafeteria, but she was allowed to register for classes. On February 3, 1956 Lucy stepped on the campus for the first time. By her third day on campus, crowds of white people learned that she was attending the school. They chased her, while screaming and throwing things at her. She was taken home in a police car and by the end of that night, university officials voted to suspend ShoresLucy. and Marshall helped Lucy build a lawsuit against the university because they believed the school helped the white mob by not having protection for her. Unfortunately, the lawyers could not prove that the university was connected to the mob, and the lawyers took back their statement. However, they were not able to take it back before the public found out. The University of Alabama responded by saying that Lucy was making up rumors about the school, and they expelled her. Even though she was not allowed to attend the school, her lawyers were still worried about her safety. Marshall welcomed Lucy to live in his home with him and his wife. Thirty-two years later, Autherine Lucy was asked to speak to a history class at the University of Alabama. After her talk, the teachers wanted her to be allowed to come back to the school as a student. In April of 1988, the university sent Lucy a letter saying that she was no longer expelled. She began school in 1989 and graduated from the same school at the same time as her daughter Grazia. Her legacy continues, as the University of Alabama named a $25,000 scholarship after her, and her picture was put up at the university in 1992.

DART

A new proposal in Congress aims to allow victims of sexual misconduct to go public with their stories. That goal is admirable. But as written, the legislation -- the Speak Out Act, which was introduced in both the House and Senate in recent weeks -- will force victims to go public, even if they don't want to. That's hardly pro-women. Many victims prefer to settle claims outof-court to avoid both the costs and inevitable publicity of litigation.

The Speak Out Act Ignores Victims' Right to Remain Private the opportunity to lead the dedicated women and men of the DART Police Department," said Cato. "I look forward to continuing the DART Police Department's community oriented policing efforts so that we can build and expand on the strong bonds we have developed with both our service area cities, as well as the citizens we serve. The bill would effectively invalidate these NDAs. Only agreements reached after litigation has commenced -- where the claims are publicized in court, complete with lawyers -- could have enforceable InNDAs.other words, the bill would make it virtually impossible for employees to settle sexual harassment or assault claims out of court. That hardly counts as progress -- unless you're a trial lawyer.

The Speak Out Act

Within the United States, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, as amended, provides the tools to combat trafficking in persons both worldwide and domestically.

the claimant would rather keep Forprivate.allthese reasons, many victims of workplace sexual misconduct prefer to leave the courts out of it -- and instead reach a private settlement with their employer. Under the Speak Out Act, this sort of approach will no longer be available. Any worker who wishes to resolve their claim for workplace sexual misconduct will need to hire a lawyer, file a lawsuit, and endure the uncertainties, stresses, and costs of Addlitigation.allthese costs up, and it's possible that the Speak Out Act could result in more women remaining silent. Even if the Speak Out Act weren't so poorly written, it would remain a troubling instance of congressional overreach. It's far from clear that lawmakers have the authority to nullify private agreements signed between workers and their employers, even if their intent is to help victims of sexual assault and Sexualharassment.assault and harassment victims deserve every opportunity to seek justice. But the Speak Out Act doesn't advance that goal.

Ignores Victims' Right to Remain Private

The legislation defines the term "pre-dispute" as any agreement that is signed before a lawsuit is filed -- even if that agreement is reached weeks, months, or years after the incident occurred. That's a problem because many out-of-court settlements involve their own non-disclosure agreements.

For one, lawsuits tend to be an expensive undertaking. Despite significant litigation costs and attorneys' fees, they don't always yield justice for the average person. That's not to mention the personal costs that litigation can exact on claimants. Many victims of sexual assault or harassment would rather not make their claims public -which a lawsuit requires. More than that, the discovery process in these lawsuits can be stressful -- and may reveal embarrassing personal details

Supporters claim the measure targets pre-dispute non-disclosure and non-disparagement agreements. These agreements are incredibly common when someone begins a new job – more than one in three U.S. workers are bound by such agreements. Supporters of the Speak Out Act applaud the bill for banning the enforcement of such agreements in instances of sexual harassment or Digassault.into the details of the Speak Out Act, however, and it becomes clear that the bill is written much more broadly than that.

• STD rates for Black Americans were 5 to 8 times that of nonHispanic white people.

Of high concern is that congenital syphilis cases — that is, syphilis in newborns — nearly quadrupled between 2015 and 2019, reaching 1,870 cases. From 2018 to 2019 the number of stillbirths caused by syphilis increased from 79 to 94, and the number of congenital syphilis-related infant deaths rose from 15 to 34 deaths. While the 2019 STD statistics reflect pre-COVID-19 pandemic numbers, preliminary data from 2020 suggests many of the same trends continued during the pandemic. Experts attribute some of the growth in STDs in 2020 to disruptions in STD testing and treatment programs caused by the pandemic.

Here’s what you need to know about how to spot, treat, and prevent STDs.

• STD rates for American Indian or Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander people, were 3 to 5 times that of non-Hispanic white people.

While 2.5 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis may sound like a lot, it’s likely an undercount: Many people with these and other STDs — formerly known as venereal diseases — go undiagnosed and untreated. The CDC estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year, accounting for almost $16 billion in healthcare costs annually. Inequities in STD Burdens

• Gay and bisexual men accounted for nearly half of all primary and secondary syphilis cases.

The number of cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) — now more commonly referred to as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) — in the United States hit an all-time high in 2019, according to data released on April 13, 2021, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC’s surveillance report shows that nearly 2.5 million new cases of gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia were reported that year. Chlamydia remained the most common condition reported to the CDC, with close to 1.8 million cases, up 19 percent since 2015. Gonorrhea diagnoses reached 616,392, up 56 percent since 2015. And primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses reached 129,813, up 74 percent since 2015.

Genital Herpes Signs of genital herpes typically include red bumps that develop into blisterlike sores in the genital area and sometimes on the buttocks or thighs. A new infection with HSV-2 — the virus that causes most cases of genital herpes — may also cause flulike symptoms, including fever, headache, feeling tired and achy, and swollen glands.

What Is the Definition of an STD? “STDs are diseases that are passed from one person to another through sexual contact,” a representative of the CDC says. What Are the Most Common STDs? According to the CDC, some of the common STDs are chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papillomavirus (HPV), and syphilis. “Many of these STDs do not show symptoms for a long time,” per the CDC, “but they can still be harmful and passed on during sex.”

Hepatitis B Acute hepatitis B can cause fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, abdominal pain, dark urine, clay-colored bowel movements, joint pain, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes). Symptoms can appear anywhere from six weeks to six months following exposure to the hepatitis B virus. Chronic hepatitis B sometimes causes symptoms similar to acute disease.

• People ages 15 to 24 accounted for 61 percent of chlamydia cases and 42 percent of gonorrhea cases.

STDs:

Oral Herpes Symptoms of oral herpes can include itching of the mouth or lips, sores or blisters on the lips or inside the mouth, and flulike symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, and swollen glands.

What Are They and How Do You Get Them?

However, new vaginal or urethral discharge or a new rash after sexual contact should be evaluated by a medical professional. When symptoms do occur, they can include the following: Chlamydia Symptoms of chlamydia can include vaginal discharge in women, penile discharge in men, and burning during urination in men and women.

HIV Early symptoms of HIV infection can resemble those of the flu: fever, headache, muscle aches, and sore throat. They may also include swollen lymph nodes, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, a fungal infection of the mouth, and a rash on the abdomen, arms, legs, or face. If HIV goes untreated, later symptoms can include fatigue, weight loss, night sweats, joint pain, short-term memory loss, and recurrent infections.

Molluscum Contagiosum Often the only sign of this skin disease is pink or flesh-colored bumps with a dimple (indentation) in the center. It is most common in children, who typically get it from skin-to-skin contact or from shared towels or similar items. In adults, it can be sexually transmitted.

Elite News August 19- August 26, 202212 “For Your Health” By Debra Blair Abron “I’m No Doctor Or A Dietician’ But What I Learn I Will Share.”

• STD rates for Latino people were 1 to 2 times that of nonHispanic white people.

Gonorrhea Gonorrhea can cause thick, cloudy, or bloody discharge from the vagina or urethra, and pain or burning when peeing. If you have gonorrhea in your anus, it may cause itching in and around the anus, discharge from the anus, and pain when defecating. Gonorrhea in the throat may cause a sore throat.

What Are the Ways I Can Get an STD? Virtually all STDs can be transmitted through anal, vaginal, or oral sex. In addition, some STDs can also be transmitted through close skin-toskin contact, even if no intercourse HPV,occurs.for example, can be spread through skin-to-skin touching. In addition, “Molluscum contagiosum, a viral skin disease, can be spread through sexual or casual contact, as can scabies, an itchy skin condition caused by a mite infestation. It is also possible to get scabies from an infected sleeping bag or bed,” says Edward W. Hook III, MD, an endowed professor of infectious disease translational research in the departments of medicine, epidemiology, and microbiology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, who works with the CDC. STDs don’t just affect the genital regions: “Oral herpes can be transmitted through oral and genital sex,” says Dr. Hook.

See next week’s paper for more!

What Are the Signs That I Might Have an STD? It is important to remember that STDs may have no symptoms.

According to the CDC’s surveillance report, “It is important to note that these disparities are unlikely explained by differences in sexual behavior and rather reflect differential access to quality sexual healthcare, as well as differences in sexual network characteristics. For example, in communities with higher prevalence of STDs, with each sexual encounter, people face a greater chance of encountering an infected partner than those in lower prevalence settings do, regardless of similar sexual behavior patterns.”

The numbers of STDs increased in all age groups and among all racial and ethnic groups in 2019, according to CDC statistics. However, some groups saw higher rates of STDs than others:
