Marcus Garvey

Born in Jamaica, Garvey created the "Back-toAfrica" movement first in Jamaica then in New York, centered in Harlem. Garvey was a powerful orator and spoke across the US urging Black Americans to return to their ancestral homeland and installing a sense of pride in black heritage.

Garvey founded a number of businesses to support the movement, including the Black Star Line in 1919 and the newspaper "Negro World". However Garvey's policies of separatism brought him enemies and he was arrested for mail fraud in 1922, serving two years before his sentence was commuted by President Calvin Coolidge in 1927.

Garvey lost much of his influence in his later years, but remained a powerful inspiration for later civil rights leaders.

The People’s Report: THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

While the FUD which stands for Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt has gripped the Blockchain/Crypto market the elephant in the room that the media, the government, business and the peeps that is completely sliding under the radar is are very own banking systems of the world. Why is it just about crypto? Will the mega bank Credit Suisse be the first to fall and cause contagion? Hope y’all know FDIC Insurance won’t mount to a hill of beans in a banking contagion run like we just had in the crypto market. The Banking system is leveraged to the max and will make 2008 Lehman Brothers miniscule. Crypto is a tiny asset class of around $950 billion. Failures here will not impact the financial system. Collapsing banks will. Mainstream media would have you believe that the only malaise in world finance is crypto which is straight manure. World financial leaders such as Janet Yellen the Secretary of the US Treasury, and Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, have spoken of crypto failures possibly affecting the financial system at some future point. However, neither of them, or indeed no other leaders of banks or other financial institutions make anywhere near as much reference to failing

banks. Now what happened to tiny crypto market is nothing if multiple banks fail in contagion. Yeah FDIC insurance can cover one big bank, however the FDIC only has 1.25% to cover over $10 Trillion in deposits just here in the United States. Again, no one talks about interconnectivity, counter party risk, derivatives, credit default swaps and so forth while they want you believe that the banks have full faith and coverage of the whole United States government which is a lie from the pits of hell. Tell a lie long enough peeps will believe its true. SIKE!!! We’ve been had, as a sucka is born every minute school of thought from a ‘Tears of a Clown’ which states “Now if there's a smile on my face, it’s only there trying to fool the public”; Sucka!!!

The other day I wrote about Basel 3 which gives the banks the ability to do a bail-in, that means confiscating your funds in your bank, not the government doing a bail-out but a bail-in thereby wiping out all of your money you have in the bank, implementation date is Jan 01, 2023. I Betcha, Dodd Frank, Janet Yellen is tight lipped and sworn to secrecy, about, Basel 3, and a few other Congress people know who are on the banking committee in Congress. Again, MAN IS INHERENTLY EVIL, NOTHING IS SACRED AND EVERYTHING IS AT RISK AS TRUST IS BEING WASHED AWAY BY THOSE WE TRUST . Credit Suisse could be that first bank domino to fall. The bank warned on November 23 that it would post a heavy loss for the fourth quarter. This was following our very own PUSHERMAN head of the Federal Reserve bank extending $6.3 billion to the Swiss bank through a dollar liquidity swap line in October. A further $3.1 billion was already swapped previous to this. In spite of this, investors are still not convinced

of Credit Suisse’s long-term solvency, and its short-term liquidity crisis is certainly not helping. Repeated scandals have been in the mix and we think what was going at FTX exchange was crazy. The UK based The Guardian reports all sorts of shenanigans at the bank.

“A massive leak from one of the world’s biggest private banks, Credit Suisse, has exposed the hidden wealth of clients involved in torture, drug trafficking, money laundering, corruption and other serious crimes.” So, when the world’s leading financial organizations publish reports that focus on the shenanigans of the crypto sector it has to be wondered why they don’t also wish to highlight what is going on in the banking sector? It might be argued that it just isn’t in their interest to do so. Financial organizations such as the IMF, the World Bank, FATF, and the BIS among others, are all deeply embedded in the traditional financial system and therefore why would they wish to shine a spotlight on any of its failures? You know what when crypto companies go down they cause losses for those who have invested in them. If banks are in danger of going down, the central banks just print money to bail them out, all to be taken care of by us the tax paying peeps. We should know since gold no longer backs the dollar, it gives the Central Banks and governments of the world to print unlimited money and put into the system which is called MMT which means Modern Monetary Theory which is unproven theory and the whole idea of MMT is that since a sovereign entity alias our government can borrow in its own currency; it can print more money when it needs to pay off all its debt thereby debasing the current currency making it lower in value. Y’all do know the more you have of an item the lower the

value of the item. The central bank just needs to keep interest rates low. Now we all know The Pusherman has been raising rates like crazy, somewhere the debt has to be paid off or go bankrupt, but unfortunately the debt keeps rising. However, when government defaults they roll over to CBDC. With because you’re only paying the interest and nothing on the principle.

Now, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) about to be rolled out across the world, with their utility enabling the central banks to completely strip away individual privacy and freedoms, crypto is the most welcome scapegoat to take the public eye off what is happening. Again, the “B” is really Blockchain and the ”C” is centralized control. Y’all don’t hear me, Y’all think I’m a conspiracy theorist. Newsflash I’m not a conspiracy theorist, I’m just a person alias your PROGRESSIVE WATCHMAN that has figured out the shenanigans used over the ‘STARNATED FOOLS’ alias the peeps and plebes of the world by those who we have given trust too but unfortunately, since man is inherently evil, thereby NOTHING IS SACRED AND EVERYTHING IS AT RISK as TRUST IS BEING WASHED AWAY, because those in charge know as long as they can keep the plebs on the VIRTUAL PLANTATION they feel they can do anything they want to and get away with it.

Now it's in our own backyard. First, we must dispel any thoughts that because this is a "private venture", that "public dollars" are not involved, via tax credits through the City of Dallas Office of Historic Preservation. This process decreases the amount of taxes collected from the business community and further burdens the Dallas residential taxpayers.

The very important Forest Avenue Theater (which is the heart of the Black community and should be handled with a lot of sensitivity; yet there is none), represents an opportunity for Black-owned Prime firms’ inclusiveness in the process. However, Fort Worth based, The Projects Group (who also did the Dickie’s Arena and yet to find any Blacks to work on that project) decided to selectively issue the RFP to two Fort Worth firms (Linbeck -White and Byrne-Hispanic), one Kansas City firm (JE Dunn-White), and one San Francisco firm (Swinerton-White). I guess The Projects Group either does not think there are qualified Black firms in Dallas, or would prefer to take the money west to Fort Worth, or out of Texas altogether! There is no way Larry James would have done this if he was still over City Square. When he built the headquarters on Malcolm X he included Black contractors which resulted in the largest Black contractor in Texas (Con-Real) and they built that beautiful building on Malcolm X.

Although the Request for

Proposal (RFP) is initially for Preconstruction Services, and calls for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and M/WBE Participation, if you look into the word “whether”, it means if you can’t or, you don’t have to. This is the main part of building any project; this is where growing capacity comes in at. They chose to put “whether” in the RFP, which means you don’t get credit for it if you do and you don’t get credit if you don’t. The most valuable part of the deal is this. We have White, Black and Hispanic contractors in Dallas that believe in true diversity. We have White, Black and Hispanic large construction companies in Dallas that pays taxes in Dallas and most of them believe in Diversity. This project has been looked at for the last two years; the prior developer/owner’s rep and the prior general contractor which was Balfour Beatty, included the Black contractors every step of the way. What happened to them? Is it a possibility that they had too many Blacks on their team? Who is carrying this proxy? It was brought to my attention they installed some new Board members; Who are they? Is it a possibility this is where the Proxy lies? I said this in my last writing: Segregation today, Segregation tomorrow, Segregation forever!

Black firms are once again relegated to waiting on a call from pre-selected firms (none from Dallas, none Black) to potentially "team" or provide services in a support role; but most importantly having to

negotiate terms from a weakened position due to not being in the room from the beginning. Why The Project Group selected firms did not include any Dallas-based or Black-owned firms in this solicitation is mind-boggling. Fort Worth leaders would never allow a project such as this to ignore the Fort Worth business community like they are ignoring the Dallas Black community. But apparently some of our leaders are asleep at the wheel or just doing their Proxy. Dallas - what are we doing? We talk about having to compete with our neighbors to the north and west, and true growth capacity and yet our Blacks are competing with

everybody; we say we support true growth capacity but we allow those same neighbors to come into South Dallas, which is 84.6% Black, and ignore Black businesses. Who would do this? I guarantee you, not Larry James.

I guess it's appropriate this is happening during the State Fair of Texas, and nobody is paying attention. Some of our Black leaders don’t tell the White community to stop it. They just stay on the Merry Go Round.

Proxy, Proxy, Proxy.

Can We Truly Have Peace in

Today’s Hostile Culture?

Debra’s Bits & Pieces

was a gift for us to receive and walk in.

I could tell the woman was on edge. Her attitude seeped frustration as she pulled the shopping carts back together, trying to retrieve her quarter. We were at a local market that requires you to put a quarter into the front of the cart to unlock it. Once you return it, you can get your quarter back. Other shoppers had left the carts unlocked in an attempt to pay it forward, but this gesture only seemed to anger the woman. After I returned my cart and went back to my vehicle, I realized how often I see this type of behavior. It seems like the smallest inconveniences and mishaps annoy people these days, and the situation can escalate quickly. Each time I go out, I see it, and I also notice my own tendency to get frustrated by small things.

Is it possible to live with peace in today’s hostile culture? In a world where it’s easier than ever to share your opinion or demean someone on social media without any long-term consequences, can we go about our days without anxiety and a constant sense that we’re walking on eggshells? I believe it is, but it requires intention.

Living with peace requires us to live in a counter-cultural way. We must submit ourselves daily to the One who said He gave us peace (John 14:27). It's not as a result of striving or earning it but

So what does this countercultural way of life look like? While certain aspects will vary depending on our unique circumstances, there are practices each of us can adopt to live in the peace Jesus describes. Here are four things we can do in our dayto-day lives to still have peace in today’s hostile culture:

1. Take Time to Unplug

We consume more information than any generation before us. We are constantly plugged in, available to others at a moment’s notice, whether it’s by text or instant message. If something tragic happens on the other side of the world, we know about it within minutes. If someone doesn’t like the way we handled something we chose to share on social media or disagrees with our opinion, they can tell us (whether they know us or not).

Is it any wonder we’re stressed? Our souls need time and space to connect with our Creator, but it can be difficult to do that when we’re connected everywhere else. This is why it’s so important for us to take intentional time to unplug and get still before God. Now, more than ever, our souls need time when we’re not bombarded with the latest news, messages, and needs.

While Jesus did not live with the technological advances we have today, we repeatedly see him taking time away to connect with the Father. Even when others were looking for him and needed him, he got away by himself to pray, recharge, and care for his own soul.

Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!’” Mark 1:35-37 NIV

If Jesus did this, how much more do we need to take this time away?

2. Name What’s Burdening You Yes, God already knows what’s burdening you. But over and over again in scripture, we see that naming the burdens of our hearts out loud to God transforms our perspective and brings peace. One of the men of the Bible we see doing this repeatedly is David. His psalms admitting his fears, frustrations, and laments are where we see him rejoicing at the end and declaring a newfound trust.

Psalm 13 begins with David saying, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” but ends with him declaring, “I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.”

If a problem or situation is weighing on your heart and robbing you of peace, be honest with God about it. Name the burden out loud. In the same way a therapist or counselor provides comfort by allowing us to name our emotions and process them, God will provide comfort when we talk to him about our worries.

3. Set Boundaries with Toxic People

I understand that we hear the word “toxic” so often nowadays that it almost seems cliché. When I say “toxic people,” I don’t mean people who disagree with you or challenge your opinion. I’m talking about people who never see the good in any situation, who drain you, and who always play the

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Continue on page 6

victim. They seem like they are on a diatribe to make their opinion known and value others knowing it more than they value relationships.

If you have such a person in your life, boundaries are not unloving. They are crucial to the health of your soul. This doesn’t mean you have to cut off all contact or never speak to the person again, but it does mean you need to recognize your inability to change the person. The Holy Spirit can change people and transform a spirit from death to life. We cannot.

Jesus encouraged his followers to have boundaries when he said the following:

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”

Matthew 7:6 NIV

In essence, we all have important jobs here on earth, which God planned long ago for us to do. If we spend the bulk of our time trying to speak life to people who will never receive it, we will miss what God has for us to do. And not only that, we’ll likely lose our peace in the process.

impact the following hours. So if we reach for our phone and our first thoughts are about the news or the nagging message we received from a friend, we’re burdening our brains before we’ve even had time to wake up. Give yourself space and grace as you come out of sleep mode. Let your first thoughts be about God and his love for you, not the stresses of the day.

David spoke of his heart to meet with God in the morning in many of his psalms: “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you” (Psalm 5:3 NIV).

The world can seem very dark and hostile these days, but the good news is this: the peace God gives is not of this world. He says in John 14:27, “I do not give as the world gives.” And for this reason, it is possible to live in his peace. Even now.

Will it be natural or easy? No, it will require intention on our part and a dedication to spend time in this Word daily. But when we experience his peace, it is lifetransforming. It is worth every moment we spend letting him transform our minds.

Take Time to Center Yourself in God’s Love Each Morning

Even if you don’t have time to dive deep into Bible study in the morning, take time to talk to God. Ask him to help you live in his peace, joy, and love as you go about your day. When I take time to do this, I’m often amazed by how much the simple practice can impact my attitude.

Walker ran primarily on his NFL fame not so much on knowledge of the economy and issues facing the American people.

Democrat Raphael Warnock keeps his seat in th Senate by defeating Republican candidate Herschel Walker in the Tuesday December 6, run-off. Warnock’s win gives the Democrats the 51 seats in the Senate. With Warnock’s win the Democrats have more leverage when voting on bills over the next two years.

Although Stacy Abrams was unable to attain the Governor’s seat in Georgia her strong finish helped in the turnout of voter’s for Warnock’s race over Walker, who had a strong backing from former President Donald Trump and the Republican party. Former President Barack Obama also campaigned on behalf of Warnock to help secure his run-off win! It was not an easy election for Warnock who had to have a run-off to retain his seat in the Senate.

More than 3.5 million people voted in the runoff, and though it was a run-off, Warnock led most of the time in voting. In his acceptance speech Warnock stated, “The people have spoken,” and “I’m proud of the bipartisan work I’ve done,” he said, “and I intend to do more because I actually believe that at the end of the day, we’re all Americans.” He also had the song, “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled played during his victory gathering after the election. Warnock campaigned on legislations: capping drugs and abortion access after overturning of Roe v. Wade. Support from parties besides the Democratic party helped to ensure Warnock’s efforts in maintaining his seat in the Senate as well.

With a strong finish the work is not done, and Warnock must now follow through his campaign promises and do his part to “Win Win Win” for the Democratic party in the Senate over the next two years!

Kick-off for the 14th Annual Home for the

Holidays Campaign

Brittney Griner Freed and On Her Way Home

Dallas – Council Member Tennell Atkins and the Dallas Park and Recreation Department held a press conference at Dallas City Hall to announce the 14th annual Home for the Holidays event in partnership with the Dallas Independent School District’s AdoptA-Family program. Over the past decade, the Home for the Holidays event has served over 7,000 meals and adopted more than 500 families living in Southern Dallas.

What Home for the Holidays Campaign Kick-Off

In February 2022, WNBA Houston native and former Nimitz High School basketball player Brittney Griner was detained by Russian customs after cartridges containing hash oil were found in her luggage. She was later arrested on smuggling charges. Although she had been entering Russia to play with the Russian Premier League during the WNBA off-season didn’t make a difference when she was arrested and sentenced.

On July 1, 2022, Griner pleaded guilty to the charges. On August 4, she was sentenced to nine years in prison. While in prison US officials felt Griner was “wrongfully detained.”

When 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022 Where Dallas City Hall Flag Room 1500 Marilla Street, 6E –North (Green Elevators) Dallas, TX 75201

On December 8, Griner, was finally released in an exchange for the convicted Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. The trade ended 10 months of captivity for Griner, whose conviction on drug smuggling charges became an international cause, entangled in Russia’s deteriorating relations with the United States since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine. Thanks

to the efforts of President Joe Biden and US officials Griner is on her way home. Although it seems that Brittney Griner was harshly punished for her illegal possession of hash oil, we the American people must understand that Griner did break the law according to Russians law and according to their laws she was rightly sentenced. What’s so surprising is that the American people were so upset with her conviction! Russia hates America, and why did we as Americans expect anything less from them. AND most importantly, we as a people need to understand this, “We are not above the law and you can and will be punished if you do wrong!” Unfortunately, Brittney Griner did wrong, but thankfully America was able to do a prisoner switch for her to come home! Just because you are famous does not give you the right to do as you please. A regular every day American would probably not have been as lucky. Also, a Russian arms dealer has been sent back home and may not even have to serve out his term for the crimes he has committed. President Biden had to make the ultimate decision for Griner’s release. So, let’s hope Brittney Griner and other American’s will think twice about the decisions they make when going to other countries, especially those countries that aren’t allies to America.

Brittney Griner we are happy you are home, hopefully, lesson to be learned, “Do RIGHT and maybe you won’t get done WRONG!

The Passing of Dr. George E. Keaton Jr., Remembering Black Dallas Founder and Executive Director

Park in Downtown Dallas. Planning is underway for this project.

Obtained oral histories of dozens of elderly African Americans in Dallas to preserve the history of African Americans in Dallas.

Received 2022 Award from Preservation Dallas for preserving the history of African Americans in Dallas

Services for Dr. Keaton are pending.

It is with sadness that Remembering Black Dallas reports the death of its esteemed Founder and Executive Director, Dr. George E. Keaton Jr.

Dr. Keaton passed on Tuesday, December 6th at Baylor Hospital after a brief illness. His contribution to historical preservation and research will have a lasting impact on Dallas and the surrounding communities for years to come. Dr. Keaton founded Remembering Black Dallas in 2015. A few of his accomplishments include the following:

Formed the Dallas County Justice Initiative in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative to memorialize victims of racial lynchings in Dallas County. This effort resulted in the placement of a marker at Main and Akard in Downtown Dallas to memorialize the lynching of Allen Brooks at that location in 1910.

Dedicated a historical marker and sculpture at Anderson Bonner Park to honor Mr. Bonner who as a former slave acquired hundreds of acres of land in North Dallas.

Successfully lobbied Dallas City Hall to clean up and provide a public memorial to the victims of the 1860 lynchings at Martyrs

Conservatorships: Heart and Sole

When a Court sees that parents can work together, and neither are a detriment to the children they are named joint managing conservators. They share the rights and duties of raising a child and must co-parent to see it done well. Being a joint managing conservator does not by itself mean you will have no exclusive rights. For example, a joint managing conservator can be designated the primary parent with the exclusive right to designate the residence of the child, and in turn have the exclusive right to receive child support. However, most of the time when it comes to things such as medical treatment and education the parents must confer and sometimes agree with one another before making a decision.

More often than not when it comes to a family suit involving children, who has primary custody of them is the most contested and important issue to my clients. Of course, this makes sense as your property can be replaced but your children cannot. Sometimes parents can work together well after divorce and can take care of their children in different yet harmonious ways. But sometimes a parent in the relationship is unfit to make serious decisions and needs to have their role in the children’s lives limited if not terminated.

In Texas what many refer to as custody is known as conservatorship. When children are involved in a family suit each parent is considered a conservator, of which there are two types: the managing conservator and the possessory conservator. Managing conservators are further broken down into two sub types: joint managing conservators and sole managing conservators.

When a client comes in saying they want sole custody, they want to be the sole managing conservator. This is usually granted when a Court finds that the other parent for one reason or another is unfit to have control over the child. The sole managing conservator is the parent with the exclusive right to make important decisions in the child’s life. Decisions such as where the children will go to school and what kind of medical treatment they will receive can often be made without approval of the possessory conservator. A sole managing conservator will also be the parent who the child primarily lives with and thus will be the parent with the right to receive child support.

The possessory conservator is the parent who has the right to have possession of the children under the conditions specified in the Court’s order. So, if one parent is named sole managing conservator and the other parent is the possessory conservator with one weekend a month for visitation; then the possessory parent does not have those exclusive rights concerning the children, but does have the right to possess the children for that designated weekend.
