NOTICE OF ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Dallas, Texas has called a special election to be held within the City of Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

CITY OF DALLAS PROPOSITION A FOR ”Authorizing the city of Dallas to provide for the planning, acquisition, establishment, development, construction, renovation and financing of the expansion of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, a venue within the city of the type described and defined in section 334.001(4)(b) of and AGAINST permitted by chapter 334, Local Government Code, as amended (the "Act"), designated by Resolution 22-0660 (the "Resolution") and described in summary form as an expansion of a convention center facility described in Sections 334.001(4)(b) and 334.2518 of the Act, and by Section 351.001(2), Tax Code, as amended, and related infrastructure as defined in the Act, including demolition costs (collectively, the "Convention Center Expansion Venue Project"); and authorizing the city of Dallas to provide for the planning, acquisition, establishment, development, construction, renovation and financing of certain Fair Park facilities, a venue within the city of the type described and defined in section 334.001(4)(d) of and permitted by the act, designated by the Resolution and described in summary form pursuant to section 334.2518 of the act as the acquisition, construction and improvement of the Automobile Building, the Centennial Building, the Band Shell, the Music Hall, the Cotton Bowl and the Coliseum, and related infrastructure as defined in the Act (collectively, the "Fair Park Facilities Venue Project" and, together with the Convention Center Expansion Venue Project, the "Venue Projects") and to impose a new hotel occupancy tax at the rate of two percent (2%) for the purpose of financing the venue projects; and approving the resolution. If approved, the maximum hotel occupancy tax rate imposed from all sources in the city of Dallas would be fifteen percent (15%) of the price paid for a room in a hotel."

I am sure you recently heard of the gut-wrenching news of an open shooter at Methodist Hospital in the maternity ward of all places. A place that is to represent the joy of new life entering our county, a place for new mothers to heal and restore after 9 months of housing a human

And then there are the nurses, doctors, and hospital staff who give their lives to serving others, often into the wee hours of the night and often at the expense of their own families and lives to help, save, & serve others.

The least we can do is provide them safe places to do what they are gifted and trained to do. The saddest part is that this is not the only incident of this kind—violet crime like this is happening all over our county. Some will say that statistics show crime is down. However, statistics do not mean squat when a proven violent criminal walks into a hospital and opens fire killing two people.

Like so many, I am sickened and saddened by the constant shape shifting and blame game of our leaders. Here is the bottom-line truth: it is up to the leaders of this county to get together, collaborate, and execute on proven procedures and protocols that keep the people safe and violet criminals off the street as much as at all possible.

It is simple. It is not as complicated as some would have us believe. The truth is that the policies of our top county leaders are either knowingly or unknowingly breeding violent crime and vagrancy and The People are suffering for it. It is time for smart on crime policies and true execution of those policies.

It does not matter if our leaders are good people, simply lacking courage to make tough decisions or if they are incompetent. Lack of courage, incompetence, ignorance, apathy, and even corruption all yield the same thing: toxic environments for the staff and The People. It is time for change in Dallas County leadership.

This is serious stuff and we are in desperate times. I am not only asking for your vote on November 8th but I am also asking you to share

my story with your friends, family, and neighbors.

Why I do It

Police chief Eddie Garcia was recently quoted as saying: “Our hearts @DallasPD go out to the those affected by this tragedy, I’m outraged along with our community, at the lack of accountability, and the travesty of the fact that under this broken system, we give violent criminals more chances, than our victims. The pendulum has swung too far.”

Our law enforcement is hurting and needs our help. Our county and municipal employees are hurting and need our help. The citizens of this county are hurting and need our help.

How can we help? By voting into leadership a competent, strong, courageous leader that answers to only God Himself, the oath of office, The People, and the Constitution of the United States, designed to PROTECT & PRESERVE the God given rights of all citizens of this great land.

While my heart is so heavy with senseless tragedies that absolutely can be prevented, I am also so very grateful for the people of this county. As I walk into my final week of campaigning and I reflect on the countless volunteers who have given so much of their time and their heart to support me and all the people I have met knocking on doors, my heart longs to protect this county and her people.

With the right team in place, we can absolutely change the course of the entire county for generations. Even small shifts in the rudder of a large ship can change the trajectory of the whole ship. NOW is the time. We cannot afford one more day with the current leadership. Dallas deserves better.

From the day I decided that I wanted to go to law school I started to hear all the jokes.

Things like “I hope you know how to lie.” and “How much will it cost to talk to you now?” But they’ve never really bothered me. Even when I was practicing personal injury and people would call me an “ambulance chaser” I never felt offended. Because from the time I started my journey to becoming an attorney I knew it was my purpose. And I decided that no one was going to knock me off course.

I’ve been asked by just about everyone I know, why did I become and attorney and more specifically why did I choose family law? Usually, I’ll give a joke answer like “Because I want an Audi R8.” or “I didn’t choose family law, family law chose me.”. But in reality, I do this because it makes me feel good. There is something about when someone puts their trust in you, then you come through for them that makes the hard days and long nights worth it. I do this for the moments when you get the smile, handshake, or hug in appreciation after helping someone through one of the roughest times in their life.

As I previously mentioned in my first article, my family has been plagued with divorce. From the time I was a kid till present day it always seemed like someone

Why I do It

I wanted to do something about it, be able to help my aunts, uncles, siblings, etc. but there was nothing I could do. But now, I can. I may have been too late to help most of my family, but I’m right on time to help others in the city. Despite my jokes it’s not about the money for me, it’s about doing what I wish I could have done way back then. It’s about protecting single mothers against abusive husbands and boyfriends. It’s about helping fathers who just want to be in their children’s lives, when their mothers do everything, they can keep them out. It’s about keeping a divorce as amicable as possible, so children don’t have to see their parents’ fight.

But most importantly it’s about inspiring the next generation of black attorneys.

(Dallas – TX, November 1, 2022) Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry at St. Philip’s School and Community Center hosted Cookin’ with Aunt Bette. This live event was held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry, named in honor of Bette Perot, a fierce advocate for hunger relief.

The pantry is located at 1502 Pennsylvania Avenue, adjacent to St. Philip’s campus. Aunt Bette’s currently serves over 850 South Dallas households. All clients in attendance and in the week following will receive recipe cards for the dishes served at the tasting, the chefs’ selected food items, and Aunt Bette’s reusable tote.

The second iteration of this biennial event will include presentations from key ambassadors and stakeholders of Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry; an unveiling of its expansion plans; and a live cooking demonstration and tasting led by Los Angelesbased Chef Gabrielle McBay, an alumna of St. Philip’s. Gabrielle will be interviewed by Clarise Tinsley on FOX 4 News tomorrow, Wednesday, November 2.

Meet Our Chef: Chef Gabrielle McBay, a 2004 alum of St. Philip’s School, is from Dallas, TX, and now based in Los Angeles. With over ten years of experience in the culinary industry, her cooking style is

soulful, contemporary, and chic with fresh everything. Gabrielle has been featured across notable media platforms including Food Network, Essence, Forbes, Black Enterprise and the New York Times. Her extensive resume details some of your favorite artists, athletes, and reputable brands including Instagram, Netflix, Food Network, Uber, Nike, and Neiman Marcus.

McBay is also the self-published author of You Have Food at Home, Peace, Love, and Good Food, and Table for One. Her love for good food in front of and behind the camera is enjoyed by thousands around the world.

About Aunt Bette’s Food Pantry: St. Philip’s established a food pantry on its campus over a decade ago in an effort to expand its hunger programming outreach to include more families and children. The

establishment of Our Community Pantry in 2015, was a direct result of an unprecedented collaboration between city, corporate, and nonprofit entities, including St. Philip’s, North Texas Food Bank, In the City for Good, and the City of Dallas.

This collaboration provided an opportunity to revolutionize the way Hunger is addressed in South Dallas, and beyond.

In July of 2019, St. Philip’s School and Community Center assumed management of the operation and volunteer recruitment of the pantry from North Texas Food Bank. In September of 2019, the pantry was renamed Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry in honor of Bette Perot, a lifelong steward of service.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the pantry continued to serve clients and provide emergency pick-up options to neighbors in need by pivoting from client-choice shopping to a drive-thru with pre-packaged groceries. Recently, the Community Pantry returned to the clientchoice model, allowing shoppers

to select their favorite items, much like a grocery store, and currently serves over 850 households, 1,750 individuals, and distributes 700,000 pounds of food annually!

About St. Philip’s School and Community Center St. Philip's School and Community Center is a private Christian school in southern Dallas serving over 260 students in grades PK2 through 7th grade (ages 2-13), and a multi-faceted dynamic community center providing a myriad of vital educational, social services, athletic and neighborhood development programs to over 4,000 children, youth, and adults annually. The organization, which has been deemed "the miracle on Pennsylvania Avenue," has a mission to transform South Dallas, our city, and the world by FAITH, EDUCATION, and SERVICE. By Reggie Pete: Exciting week with another win by our Dallas Cowboys!!!

49-29 over the Chicago Bears who put up a decent fight but it was all Cowboys for most of the game. Dak Prescott was efficient with 250 yards passing, 2TDs and 1 interception. He also ran for 34 yards and a rushing TD. With Zeke not being able to play this game due to injury, Tony Pollard showed that he can carry the load with 131 yards rushing off of 14 carries. We won again by being balanced with passing and running, 27 passing attempts with 29 rushing. We have to give a hats off to Kellen Moore though because he actually called a great game this week. We utilized our strengths with our sets and formations. Utilizing our tight end group was essential because they can block and catch so the play action was hard to defend.

The question everyone is asking is that who should be the starting running back. I feel like where we are now is good. Zeke should be the starter because of what he brings to the table. Although he isn’t as explosive as he used to be, he keeps the chains moving with tough yards. Even with a decline in rushing, most people don’t know that there were only 7 running backs last year that gained over 1000 yards and Zeke was one of them. He’s also one of the best running backs at pass blocking with knowing where the blitz is coming from and picking it up. So if you want to keep your QB healthy, it’s a good idea to have someone like him back there. The saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” so let’s continue with how we are and make adjustments as the season goes along. One thing I do know is that Pollard needs to be re-signed before the end of the season before he gets out into the free agency market and they may want to start talking soon before his price goes up.

Going into the bye week, we sit at 6-2 overall. With the Giants loss to the Seahawks that puts us at #2 in our division, a great spot to be in. I was hoping we did more with the trade deadline passing. We did get Johnathan Hankins who should be someone to help the defense against the run. The Bears still managed to put up roughly 250 yards rushing and that cannot continue if we want to make a run in the playoffs. The teams we’re more than likely to face are great running teams so we have to figure out how to plug that leak. With the schedule we have left, I’m confident we’ll be in the playoffs.

Basketball season has just started and the Mavs are currently 10th in the conference.

Haven’t seen many games yet but I know that Luka is being Luka so that’s always a plus. The addition of Christian Wood has been good along with Javale McGee because they give us some paint presence, but I still feel we need someone other than Luka that can break down a defense and create their own shot. It’s still way too early to determine the season’s outcome. I have faith in Jason Kidd that he’ll figure it out before it’s too late. The Warriors are 12th in the conference and they won the championship last year so nothing to fret about just yet, just stay in striking distance.

REPORT: The Brooklyn Nets had been in ‘cursory talks’ with one Western Conference team about a deal that would return a veteran shooter and Ben Simmons' name came up in those talks.

Duncanville boys basketball team has been stripped of its 2022 Class 6A state championship by @ uiltexas. The UIL ruled that Duncanville had to forfeit any games that Anthony Black played in because he had been ruled ineligible by UIL.
