The habit has pushed the lower incisors back and the upper incisors out. The symmetry of the arch has been affected. If the habit continued as the permanent teeth were coming in, malocclusion of the teeth occurred. Behavior modification is the key at this point. An intra-oral appliance is needed. It makes it difficult to place the thumb or other object in the mouth. The device helps but requires placement for 3 to 6 months. Orthodontics may still be needed. For older adults with an open bite, orthodontics in combination with surgery will be needed. Skeletal and dental changes have occurred. This may require actual resetting of the jaw areas with surgery (orthognathic surgery). Various treatments are age specific. See your dentist with your concerns for a consultation.

OLD SCHOOL LAWYER TALKS TRUTH By Brian Eberstein
Car crash lawyer information surrounds us. We hear all the names of lawyers, including me, Brian Eberstein, the Old School Lawyer, all the time. This may be on radio or television or on billboards throughout the Dallas Ft Worth area. But do people listening or watching or seeing all those outdoor signs ever get to know the lawyer they ultimately hire and, more importantly, does the lawyer ever get to really know the person he or she represents. I say that does not happen except in rare instances and then only when the lawyer believes it’s a “ big “ case with plenty of money involved. The tragedy of all of that is clear. As most car crash cases are not the “ big “ cases, clients never really know their lawyer and the lawyer certainly doesn’t know his client. In fact, as I’ve heard repeatedly from people who call me, many people injured in car crashes never even meet that lawyer whose face is on the billboard or whose voice is on the radio. The question then is obvious. How does a lawyer do the best job possible for any client if he or she doesn’t know that person ? And I’m talking about genuinely knowing the person, that person’s family and all the other people who’ve been affected by the car crash. The answer ? The lawyer cannot adequately represent the client he or she doesn’t know. Sadly, I believe, this inadequate type of representation goes on in the legal community every day. Clients can talk with case managers or secretaries or intake personnel but never, or rarely, with
their lawyer. For me, that’s just wrong and no way to honestly help people who’ve been injured. When I made the decision to begin working again in the car crash world, I made a promise to myself. I promised myself I would meet with, talk with and answer phone calls from anyone who wanted to speak with me about their car crash case. So far ? I’m doing exactly that. Are people surprised when they call the 800 Old School number and get me ? Some are. I answer their questions, tell them exactly what I think and, in many of those calls, I tell them to immediately call the lawyer they hired and insist on talking only with that lawyer. Car crash cases are certainly not that easy. There are many things to understand about how a crash occurred, what are the injuries and so on. To my way of thinking, if you, as a car crash lawyer, don’t also truly know the person you represent, what happened to that person and the family, how all those lives were changed because of the acts of a negligent driver, you’ll never be able to do the best job possible for the person you represent.
