We began life as the Tioga Building and Loan Association in 1873, a seemingly unlikely year in which to launch a new bank. Only eight years had passed since the end of the Civil War, and our country found itself in the grip of a severe economic depression. Credit dried up, foreclosures were common and banks failed.
We survived that early economic crisis, and every one since then, by sticking to our core principles. These include conservative investing, offering competitive rates to both depositors and borrowers, responding quickly and courteously to customer concerns, and keeping fees to a minimum.
In 1973, the Tioga Building and Loan Association merged with the Franklin Savings and Loan Association to form the Tioga-Franklin Savings Association. In July 2000, we became Tioga-Franklin Savings Bank and members of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

Linnington’s life was a challenge from the age of 6, an acquired taste it was not. It was simply demanded and subsequently achieved at all levels both with scholarships and athletics.
With all that overachieving comes a different challenge, how do you turn it off? John chose ALCOHOL. That presents a whole different set of circumstances that would catch up to him in his sixties. As Mickey Mantle said, “If I knew I was going to live this long I probably would have taken better care of myself”. That is the scary part for the functioning alcoholic who never missed a day’s work and outran the field for 40 years. Then became president of the company he helped build over the last 38 years.
On top of a stellar professional career John was also the owner, chef, and operator of several successful restaurants. In an attempt to stay busy and out of drinking establishments, 2200 more seasonal hours were required. All of this was to satisfy the pangs of guilt associated with alcoholism.
The purpose of this writing is to serve notice to young people the importance of life maintenance should you decide to run uphill. No one is exempt from the trials associated with an aggressive quest at life. Drugs and Alcohol cannot be an option.
