DR. SHAWN B. DAVIS VOTED BEST DOCTOR IN SOUTHERN UTAH

Dr. Shawn Davis is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon in St. George. He opened his practice the Oral & Facial Surgery Institute in 2008. He grew up in Idaho and northern Utah, but has called St. George home for 14 years. He lives in St. George with his wife and their three children. In his spare time, Dr. Davis enjoys fitness, reading, camping, and spending time with his wife and children.

Dr. Shawn Davis started his education at Brigham Young University where he earned his Bachelor of Science. That same year he began his doctorate training at Temple University College of Dentistry in Philadelphia. While in dental school he was chosen to complete a concurrent Masters of Business Administration. Dr. Shawn Davis completed his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and was accepted into the University of Oklahoma’s prestigious program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. During his final year at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Davis served as Chief Resident in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Davis maintains membership in multiple scholarly organizations including: American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, Utah Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Society of Dental Anesthesiologists. In addition, Dr. Davis is the team surgeon for facial trauma in the sports medicine department at Dixie State University.

Dr. Davis provides life-changing oral and facial surgery, including wisdom teeth removal, orthognathic surgery, dental implants, jaw surgery, TMJ treatment, facial reconstruction, and Teeth in a Day. BEST OF SOUTHERN UTAH WINNER DESERT SANDS KETAMINE OFFERS HOPE, HEALING FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH MOOD DISORDERS

For people living with treatment-resistant depression and other mental health disorders, therapeutic IV infusions may hold the key to stabilizing mood imbalances, providing relief and hope at last.

Dr. Eric Evans established Desert Sands Ketamine Treatment Center to offer a lifeline for patients suffering from clinical depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and clinical anxiety, as well as chronic pain conditions. Many have already tried the pharmaceutical approach with little success. “Patients are finding us and getting help,” he said. “We’ve had a tremendous amount of success helping people with their depression, PTSD, anxiety and more.”

Evans has routinely administered ketamine in the operating room over the course of his 25-year career as a board-certified anesthesiologist. Administered in low doses via IV infusion, ketamine works to stabilize mood imbalances by boosting a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor. It targets the amygdala, a part of the brain that processes moods and emotions in the conscious mind.

Research demonstrates that ketamine is approximately 70% effective in treating depression, a significantly higher success rate than antidepressants and traditional talk therapy. Offering lasting results, a relatively safe side effect profile and few contraindications with other drugs, Evans said it’s nothing short of a “wonder drug” for treatment-resistant depression and other mood disorders. Patients shouldn’t trust just any ketamine provider with their therapy, however. Desert Sands Ketamine is a physician-driven practice recognized as the Best of Southern Utah, winning gold in alternative therapies last year as well as silver in the behavioral/ mental health treatment category in both 2022 and 2021.

At Desert Sands Ketamine, Evans has created a spa-like, comfortable healing environment with compassionate staff who are dedicated to helping every patient achieve the best results possible. Every patient’s experience begins with a complimentary consultation to discuss their issues and determine if ketamine is right for them.

Following the consultation, patients undergo infusions twice a week for up to three weeks. The team will assess their progress after the

first four sessions. Patients typically remain in the maintenance phase after completing their initial course of treatment, Evans said. Most require an infusion only once a month or once every other month to sustain their improved mood.

Infusions typically last about 45 minutes, during which time patients enter a dreamlike state they often describe as relaxing and enjoyable. Because ketamine metabolizes quickly, the dissociative effects begin to fade as soon as the infusion stops. Evans said patients usually feel back to normal within 15-20 minutes.

Every session is supervised by a physician and conducted in a private space. After an infusion, the staff at Desert Sands Ketamine will have a discussion with each patient about the sensations they experienced and where their thoughts traveled.

“That’s a good time for us to get to know them better and see if there’s other tools we can add to their toolbox to help them deal with their depression, anxiety and other issues,” Evans said. The clinic provides patients with resources to improve all aspects of their well-being, including dietary guidance, meditation, massage therapy, relationship counseling and talk therapy. Recognizing that every individual has a unique story and set of issues that they’re dealing with, Evans strives to use a complete approach to each patient.

Southern Utah’s first responders bear witness to violence, death and other distressing experiences in the line of duty, which sometimes leads to burnout and feelings of depression and anxiety. Evans and his caring staff help restore a sense of calm and balance for patients like Dan, a 20-year law enforcement veteran who carried a burden of trauma into his retirement.

“Dr. Evans put me at ease, and I dove in,” he said. “My transition was very gradual, but I did notice a real difference in how I look at life. Dr. Evans goes above and beyond, and I consider him a friend.”

While ketamine has received much attention in recent years as a breakthrough treatment for mood disorders, Evans said the medical world is now discovering how beneficial it can be in treating chronic pain conditions, including migraines. Ketamine is a highly effective painkiller and a dissociative anesthetic. And because it’s administered via IV infusion, pain relief begins almost immediately.

“Ketamine has been nothing short of miraculous for a lot of people in our clinic,” he added. “With ketamine, people can wake up in the morning and joy is a possibility for them again.”

Patients find Desert Sands Ketamine in a variety of ways. Some are referred by a psychiatrist, therapist or family practice physician. However, a referral or ongoing relationship with a mental health professional isn’t necessary.

At Dixie Technical College, students quickly gain the skills and credentials they need to go directly into the workforce. Dixie Tech provides hands-on training at a futuristic facility designed to optimize every aspect of the learning experience.

“All forms and levels of education are important for our economy to thrive, and technical education is vital,” interim president Jordan Rushton said. “These graduates are the essential workers in every community.”

The school’s unique approach to learning gives students the opportunity to competently enter their chosen career field with the confidence to succeed. Approximately 92% of graduates secure jobs in their field of study, most of which are within the St. George area.

Dixie Tech recognizes that certain people learn best from a textbook and others through hands-on engagement. The school’s programs offer the best of both worlds, combining experiential learning with an industry-driven curriculum to create career-ready graduates. Beyond a skilled trade, students gain renewed confidence in their ability to learn and achieve success in their field.

This real-world approach to technical education promotes inclusivity for people of various ages and backgrounds. While the majority of students are between 18 and 26 years old, all walks of life have benefited from enrolling at Dixie Tech, from parents ready to pursue a career after raising their kids to lifelong learners seeking to explore a different path.

“Technical education is a great way to kickstart a new career,’’ said Aubrey Gurney, digital marketing and communications specialist for Dixie Tech. “I’ve met with students who are just out of high school and know exactly what they want to do, as well as those returning to school to pursue their lifelong passion.”

One of eight fully accredited technical colleges in Utah, Dixie Tech is funded by state legislation and driven by occupational advisory committees consisting of local employers. These industry professionals review curriculum and teaching methods several times a year to ensure graduates are up to speed with the latest technology.

work and learn until they have mastered the skills to meet industry standards. The instructors are experts in their fields and are committed to the success of each student.

“We only offer programs that are relevant and in-demand,” Rushton said. “Our industry partners play a pivotal role in guiding the content and objectives of each program to ensure students are uniquely prepared to go right into the workforce and have successful careers.”

Dixie Tech programs are nationally accredited through the Council on Occupational Education and take anywhere from 6-18 months to complete. Through articulation agreements with Dixie State University, Utah Valley University and Utah State University, students can earn credit toward associate degrees in qualifying fields of study.

High school students also have the opportunity to experience technical education at Dixie Tech for greatly reduced tuition. Many of the programs are designed to accommodate their already busy schedules.

“There’s nothing that can set high school students up for success like graduating with a diploma and a set of skills that are in high demand,” Rushton said. “Whether going straight to work or continuing your higher education experience is the goal, Dixie Tech will have you poised for a successful future.”

Dixie Tech launched in 2001 with just a handful of enrollees across three programs. Today, the school serves nearly 1,200 students and courses run throughout the year. A total of 27 certifications, including health care, computer technology, construction, transportation, manufacturing and culinary, provide diverse opportunities for students to kickstart their careers.

The school stands high above the heart of St. George like a beacon of opportunity. Once home to an airport, the 30-acre campus on Tech Ridge has transformed into a launching pad for career aspirations to take flight. More than 180 fitness classes are held every week between Summit’s three St. George locations: River Road, Bluff Street and Sunset Boulevard. Dutson said the club is always working to expand its offerings for the benefit of its 15,000-plus members with varied abilities and interests.

“Some people love to change up what they’re doing, and some people love keeping the exact same routine,” she added. “We’ve

spent a lot of time coming up with things we can put into these new spaces to create a better workout environment for our members.”

The main campus on River Road underwent some exciting upgrades earlier this year. The outdoor space has been completely renovated with a new lap pool and an enlarged turf area for fun family games like cornhole and giant Jenga, and the tennis and pickleball courts were also resurfaced.

Members will soon have even more options for staying active with the addition of a state-of-the-art facility on the west side of St. George. Summit’s fourth location, near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Tuweap Drive, is expected to open by the end of the year. The two-story, 35,000-square-foot complex will be loaded with new equipment, functional training rooms, child care, dance rooms, a pro shop, a smoothie bar, a recovery room and much more.

Gold Ore Store is an amazing store with a great beginning most people aren’t aware of. The concept of Gold Ore Store began in an attic space, selling mining ore from family-owned mines on eBay, and ended up on Main Street, USA.

The store wasn’t actually a store at all when it was first envisioned by Greg Neel in 2011. Neel and his daughter, Nicole, were selling mining ore on eBay from one of six abandoned gold and silver mines the family had purchased online from a broker. The family had tremendous interest in crystals, rocks and fossils as well as coins and bullion. They began the venture at a gem show, where they didn’t even have the funds to purchase booth space and actually borrowed the $700 fee from the sister of a good friend.

“We had never met her before, but she was adamant about lending the money to us to do this,” Neel said. “The event was a smash hit! We sold everything we had brought with us.”

That included 100 US silver eagle coins and various other silver and gold bullion rounds and bars as well as crystals, rocks and other mineral specimens, plus antiques, collectibles, knives, swords and other cool and extremely unique gift items. Thus began the journey, initially a part-time experience traveling to gem and gun shows in various states as well as some antiques and collectibles shows.

During the beginning, the Neels ran a disaster restoration company in the Salt Lake Valley. Neel, his wife, Melodie, and the entire family were a general contractor firm restoring homes from fire, flood, wind and mold damage. The business was profitable; however, it was incredibly stress-inducing and decisions were made to let the business go, move to St. George and open Gold Ore Store in its present location in the heart of historic downtown.

The early years were tough. The family worked hard to make the lease payment every month in a historic district that was just beginning a renaissance but still resembled a small Detroit, working to come out of a difficult period where the masses had forgotten about their once-vibrant downtown. In fact, Neel and his daughter actually slept on the floor of the store for weeks in the early days as they didn’t even have a place to live yet.

Neel’s wife, a licensed massage therapist, was still up in the Salt Lake region working in the high-end hotel industry to keep a flow of income while they began the venture in St. George. The Neels had to learn the entire retail business model while struggling to make ends meet each and every month.

From a family-owned restaurant to a 100% employee-owned company, salad dressing giant Litehouse Inc., with one of its key manufacturing plants in Hurricane, has maintained a trajectory of steady growth.

THE LITEHOUSE STORY

In 1949, Ed Hawkins Sr. was working as a chef at a restaurant

in Spokane, Washington, and prayed about a solution to the poor quality of the salad dressings they served. The answer to his prayer was a blend of mayonnaise, spices, crumbled blue cheese and buttermilk. To his knowledge, his original recipe was the first creamy blue cheese dressing. Hawkins started serving the dressing in his restaurant, and it became so popular that customers were taking jars of it home. Seeing how much people loved it, his sons, Doug and Ed Jr., were inspired to start selling the product to local retailers. After local success, the Hawkins family started gaining national distribution and grew the company with new product offerings.

As the company kept growing, Litehouse searched for other locations to manufacture its popular products. Litehouse opened the doors of its Southern Utah plant in 2011 and cut the ribbon on a significant expansion in 2018, adding 175,000 square feet of production space and 165 new jobs.

Over the coming years, Litehouse has continued to expand its lineup of innovative products to include a variety of brands and product lines that can be found across many different departments of the grocery store – from veggie-forward pasta and freeze-dried herbs to global sauces, plant-based dressings and more. Today, Litehouse’s award-winning products are available across North America through general retailers, e-commerce, foodservice, delis and club stores. The company operates under the brands Litehouse, Sky Valley, Organicville, Green Garden and Veggiecraft Farms.

EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP

Perhaps Litehouse’s biggest impact on the Southern Utah community is its employee ownership structure. Litehouse transferred 30% of the company’s holding to its workers in 2006. By 2014, it had become a 100% employee-owned venture.

All full-time employees and many part-time employees have a direct path to ownership of the company at no cost to them. Each year, Litehouse’s stock shares are distributed to the people that help operate the business every day. As a result of these contributions, employee-owners have created sizable retirement accounts that will be of great benefit for their future.

“When we look at the accounts of our employee-owners that have been here since the start of the employee stock ownership plan in 2006, all of them now have six-figure account balances,” Prior said. “The ESOP benefit is truly a gift from our founders that will provide so many with a retirement fund that they could not have saved on their own.”

“When it comes to our community events, we look at where we can make the biggest impact with the resources we have,” said Steven Young, Communications Specialist for Dixie Power. “You will see evidence of this in the Kite Festival, the Blood Drive and even our Operation Round-Up program.”

DIXIE POWER KITE FESTIVAL

Each year we hold the Dixie Power Kite Festival, which aims to promote literacy in Washington County. It takes a significant amount of work to put on a festival of this size. Our employees volunteer their time to make this event a success.

We bring the community together by inviting over 80 vendors to participate. We also seek out cash and in-kind sponsorships to help make the event possible. Each year, we collect enough money from our vendors and sponsors to make a sizable donation to the Washington County School District Foundation. Since its inception, we’ve donated over $750,000 cash toward literacy through the Festival.

On April 2, approximately 30,000 attendees flocked to the Dixie State University Encampment Mall to participate in this year’s festivities. The Festival is a great community event with live entertainment, bounce houses, funnel cakes and corn dogs.

“The best part about the Festival is the work these kids put into reading and filling out their charts!” Festival Manager, Rachel Ludlow said. “We estimate that children will read for over 3,000,000 minutes leading up to the Festival. I don’t know of another program that’s doing this much good for the children in our communities.”

DIXIE POWER BLOOD DRIVE

Another annual event that we look forward to is the Dixie Power Blood Drive.

“The American Red Cross approached us three years ago with the request to become Southern Utah’s largest blood drive,” Young said. “We accepted that challenge, and we are happy to report that we’ve successfully grown the drive each year.”

In 2021, Dixie Direct and FiiZ Drinks partnered with us to give each donor a free Dixie Direct Savings Guide and a $5 FiiZ Drinks gift card. We were able to collect 170 units of blood. These donations will directly affect Southern Utah and have the potential to save 510 lives.

OPERATION ROUND-UP

With our Operation Round-Up program, we invite our 24,500 members to voluntarily round up their power bills up to the next whole dollar amount. The average monthly donation is just 50 cents, with an average yearly donation of $6. It may sound small, but we’ve seen tremendous success using the funds from this program to donate to local charities.

If all our members participated in Operation Round-Up, we would have approximately $147,000 to donate annually. Since we started the program, Dixie Power has donated over $340,000 to charities like the Dove Center, the Utah Food Bank, Tan’s Treats and more. Small change can change lives!

And wow, what a difference a year makes. This time last year, we were working through COVID-19 and interest rates remained at all-time lows. Now, amid inflationary times, we’re witnessing home prices shooting to all-time highs as well as interest rates on 30-year fixed mortgages peaking above 5%. We’ve seen 30-year fixed rates jump from 3% to 5% within 90 days.

That extreme increase in such a short time is unheard of and will have an impact on many of us, especially seniors. So, let’s address the following as briefly as we can.

• What can we expect in 2022 from the real estate and interest rate markets with prices of homes shooting higher and rates jumping to post-pandemic highs? How high are they going to go?

• What are the financing options across the board for a home?

• As a senior, if you’re not buying a home, how can you benefit from the current market?

MARKET

We know that home prices are approaching or have exceeded past highs in Southern Utah, even matching the pre-2008 downturn. We also know that the demand to move here is peaking, and the number of homes for sale is limited, to say the least. Builders are out months in completion, and there’s just not much inventory to keep up with the number of buyers.

On top of that, interest rates are now approaching those in 2008, prior to the housing bubble. The average 30-year fixed in 2008 was 6%. Today, it’s around 5%. The good news is that the affordability of homes is much better than in 2008 with the level of interest rates being at these lows.

Also good news is that the demand for housing doesn’t look like it can match capacity in over a year. It may take more than 18 months, as planned, to just keep up with the average demand for homes in this area. So, if rates move to 5.5% on a fixed mortgage, it most likely won’t slow down the purchases and prices of these homes. But it will slow down buyers who are financially on tight qualifying ratios. With the current demand and forecast for the continual demand, we may not see prices come down for some time.

FINANCING OPTIONS

There are multiple options for financing, from zero-down Utah housing and/or rural housing programs to senior options with reverse purchases. Many seniors are putting less down on their

homes and using their cash and reserves to make payments, therefore holding their savings versus putting them into the home. More popular today in senior communities, about 50% of our clients are purchasing a home with the HECM for purchase loan because of high prices and the ability to manage payments. Depending on your age, you’re roughly putting half the purchase price of the home down; even less if you’re older than 62. You have no mortgage payments required aside from taxes and insurance, but if you choose to make them or make interest-only payments, you have the flexibility to do so. This option provides a tremendous amount of leverage when looking at home prices today versus even a year ago, and allows you to buy a home for cash.

The interest rate is also currently the same APR as the average 30-year fixed rate, so it tends to track the 30-year fixed mortgage. This loan allows you to choose to make a payment on the home monthly or periodically – or never again during your retirement if you choose.

IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SELL YOUR HOME BUT STILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF INTEREST RATES AND EQUITY IN YOUR RISING HOME VALUE, CONSIDER THESE FACTORS.

Refinance your mortgage today and fix your rate by consolidating all debt sooner rather than later. But, watch your closing fees. Use a lender that has minimal fees or a flat fee for their conventional and other loans.

Realize that mortgages usually have the lowest interest rate of all loans because the loan is the most secured. All commercial debt can be consolidated with these higher home values, allowing you to pay down and pay off debt in half the time if used correctly. For example, you certainly don’t want to finance a credit card bill for 30 years. But you’re only lowering your interest carry so the same payment can pay off that credit card as soon as possible or in a fraction of the normal time.

If you’re over 62 and still making mortgage payments, look at reverse options that allow you to refinance and pay off your home without future payments unless you choose not to make any. Remember, with the high home values today, many seniors that have a mortgage into retirement are paying off their home with a reverse loan because of the recent equity they have gained.

Lock in all loans that are variable-rate into fixed percentages. With rates moving, it’s not the best time to be in a variable program. If you have a home equity loan, try to consolidate that into your first mortgage and fix the rate before any additional rises. Also very important is to refinance your reverse mortgage at record lows in order to decrease the interest carry on your loan. This will impact how much equity is there for your estate when you pass away.

The team also enjoys spending time together outside of work. They gather for dinners, barbecues and have also played in a local kickball league. Salmon said they even plan trips with each other’s families. “We spend all week together, but when people get a chance to go on vacation, they still want to hang out!”

Patients truly feel that camaraderie, and they also become part of the Save Dental family over time. As the team guides patients through dental issues, they have watched kids growing up and adults navigating life changes both good and bad.

“When we see them regularly, it becomes a close relationship, it’s nice to check in and see how they’re doing,” Salmon said.

For nearly 20 years, Gamma West has offered some of the most advanced cancer treatments and cutting-edge care to patients throughout the Mountain West region. Their team of 11 radiation oncologists serves communities as far north as Idaho Falls, Idaho, and as far south as Mesquite, Nevada. The St. George clinic opened in 2007 under the direction of Dr. Ray S. Richards.

Hansen joined the Gamma West clinic in St. George in July 2021. A native of Draper, Utah, Hansen completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University, where he began researching the tumor microenvironment and the mechanisms cells use to communicate with one another.

Hansen has published on topics ranging from prostate cancer to head and neck cancer, including high-dose rate brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, quality assurance and the importance of multidisciplinary care. His vast understanding of intracranial malignancies led to his authoring a chapter on the subject for a medical textbook. Ultimately, he received the RSNA Resident Research award for his work.

Hansen has committed himself to “working diligently every day to ensure patients receive the highest quality of care possible.” This commitment to excellence is a familiar mindset at Gamma West.

“I was drawn to Gamma West because of the culture present from the moment you walk through the door. It’s an organization where patients are more than patients; they’re part of the Gamma West family,” he said. “Additionally, we treat patients using the most advanced therapies available to achieve excellent outcomes with fewer side effects.”

Gamma West uses state-of-the-art radiation oncology technology to care for patients in Southern Utah. The group’s flagship treatment approach is HDR brachytherapy, a type of internal radiation used to combat breast cancer, prostate cancer and other forms of the disease.

Brachytherapy is designed to eliminate cancer cells with a high degree of precision by destroying the cells internally while more accurately limiting any exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. It involves the highly skilled placement of radiation directly inside the body – and in some cases, within the tumor itself – for a short time. Hansen explains it as a safer means of delivering higher doses of radiation that are well-tolerated and highly effective. As one of the largest brachytherapy clinics in the nation, the radiation oncologists at Gamma West have collectively performed tens of thousands of these procedures.

Innovative technology allows the physicians at Gamma West to perform noninvasive radiation treatments. The clinic uses intensity-modulated radiation therapy to provide highly conformal external beam treatments for solid malignancies throughout the body. Like other forms of radiation, this treatment works by breaking down cancer cells so they can no longer grow and divide.

Gamma West also offers superficial radiation therapy, a noninvasive alternative to surgery for basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers. The machine delivers a beam of low-energy X-rays from outside the body to the cancer site, destroying the malignant cells. The radiation only penetrates about 5 millimeters below the skin’s surface and is especially recommended for cosmetically sensitive areas such as the face.

Hansen is married to Alexa Hansen, who grew up in St. George, and they’re raising a growing family of their own. Hansen said he feels grateful for the opportunity to live in Southern Utah, where both of their extended families now reside. Having lived in Texas and outside Philadelphia while completing his residency at Fox Chase Cancer Center (a top-rated hospital in the Northeast), he loves his newly adopted home.

“Family is so important in our lives, which is why we focus on families and support teams when we create a plan for our patients. “People are wanting to know more about their food and who raises it,” owner Kacie Carballo said. “We’re happy and grateful to fill that void in the meat industry today.”

Dry Lakes Ranch Beef produces the very best cuts in Southern Utah. Their cattle are young, healthy and humanely raised in the lush valley pastures near Parowan on land that has been a working livestock ranch for over 150 years. Founded as Mitchell Herefords in 1873, Carballo and her husband, Reyes Carballo, have operated the ranch for more than a decade.

The Carballos keep about 300 head of Hereford and Angus cattle at Dry Lakes Ranch today. They also farm several hundred acres, which allows them to feed their cows homegrown, high-quality corn silage, grains, grasses and alfalfa.

Beef steers are harvested in the prime of their life. After harvesting, the meat is dry-aged for two weeks and vacuum-sealed. Dry Lakes Ranch Beef guarantees fresh, never frozen cuts of meat each week on a first-come, first-served basis. Every purchase of locally produced meat goes back into the Iron County community.

Carballo sells Dry Lakes Ranch Beef at a brick-and-mortar shop on Parowan’s historic Main Street that she operates alongside her mother, Kay Benson, along with four great local women. As a

woman-owned and operated business, they take pride in providing exceptional customer service in addition to high-quality, locally raised beef. Cuts are also available to purchase online and pick up in-store.

The shop is a welcoming and clean meat retailer. The ladies behind the counter love meat and understand quality, yield, cutting and cooking techniques like few modern butchers do. Carballo said that knowledge gives them the opportunity to connect with customers and ensure that everyone leaves the shop with something perfect to cook for dinner.

“They’re happy with their purchase before they even taste the meat, but it’s an experience to have a piece of our meat,” she added. “As soon as people taste it, they start talking to their friends and neighbors and family.”

One of Carballo’s favorite ways to wow customers is by offering unique and valuable complementary items. When kids visit the shop, one of the ladies behind the counter will pull a few small steaks from the display and let them pick out their own highquality piece of beef to take home. The staff loves educating young people about Dry Lakes Ranch Beef and how nutritious it is.

“We also hand out stickers to kids and let them see what’s happening behind the counter on occasion,” she added.

Additionally, the retail shop has garnered praise for its unique steak toppings. They offer a house-made creamy horseradish that

Dry Lakes Ranch Beef was recognized by Southern Utah voters in the 2021 Best of Iron County contest. Their cuts also placed fourth overall in last year’s Best of the West beef competition in Wyoming, where they competed against producers from 12 other states.
