The Fayette County Fair had its beginnings on the O.W. Rittenhouse and Edward Higbee farms. Called “Field Days,” the events were sponsored by a group of progressive farmers, who were first organized by PSU County Agricultural Extension Agent Rex Carter. In May 1955, the group became the Fayette County Agricultural Improvement Agency. Today’s fair is run by approximately 300 volunteers, 100 volunteer committee members and 13 board members.

When you think of the Best in Fayette, you have to think of Phil Michael. A member of the WMBS On-Air and Sales Staff, Phil tragically passed away on June 6, 2024 at the age of 51 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while working as a constable on May 3, 2024.
Phil dedicated himself to public service. He served as a former Uniontown City councilman and taught in various school districts, including West Mifflin and Mapletown. He was a prominent gure in the community, serving as President of the Uniontown Rotary Club, Head of the Uniontown Sewage Authority, and a member of the Uniontown Chamber of Commerce. Phil was also an active member of St. George Maronite Catholic Church.
Phil's commitment to public safety led him to serve as a Pennsylvania State Constable. In recent years, Phil served as a WMBS Talk Show Host, while working part time in the sales department.
Phil Michael leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and we dedicate the 2024 Best in Fayette Book to Phil and his family.
