Nathan and Megan Swanson co-founded Thunder Orthopedics in 2023 because they wanted to serve and live in the Charlottesville community. They are best friends and avid dog lovers and enjoy working together.

Dr. Megan Swanson earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Ethics from the University of Virginia. Besides pioneering outpatient joint replacement surgery and being the first female orthopedic surgeon to own her own practice in Charlottesville, at home, she enjoys coaching her children in basketball and trail running with her dogs.
LaCresha Jackson, CMA
Lacresha has worked with Dr. Swanson for over a decade and can read her mind. She is in charge of our “command central” and is the Lead Medical Assistant for a busy orthopedic practice. Her genuine kindness and common sense are invaluable assets to our work family. Lacresha is the one who keeps the plants alive in the office! At home, she has a cat and is raising the next female soccer star.

Gracie has sky-rocketed to success at Thunder learning all about insurance, front desk support, EMRs and radiology technician work. Gracie loves seeing our patients reach their personal and health goals. When not in the clinic, Gracie enjoys playing softball, spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors.
Ean Huang, BA
Ean Huang, originally from Long Island, New York, is a University of Virginia graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. A former competitive figure skater and a classical pianist, Ean is eagerly and enthusiastically fulfilling multiple roles with us. He has volunteered at hospitals and the Ronald McDonald House, experiences that reinforced his desire to to go to medical school. In his free time, Ean enjoys working out and traveling.

As a deeply experienced physician assistant, Traci helps Dr. Swanson manage complex patients with intricate medical issues. She says: “I love working at Thunder Orthopedics because my colleagues have become family with a common goal to help our patients return to their active lifestyle as soon as possible all while doing so in a setting that promotes healing and comfort.” Outside of work, Traci enjoys working out, and running her four daughters all over Albemarle County.

Kelly is a Certified Medical Assistant who serves as our surgery coordinator, marketing manager and IT informatics guru. She excels in identifying creative new opportunities and executing on those ideas. When Kelly is relaxing at home, she enjoys reading a good book and hanging out with her dog, Darcy.
Nathan Swanson, BS
Nathan is the co-founder and practice manager of Thunder Orthopedics and has a consulting background. His business guidance has been invaluable and he says: “Working in healthcare has been new, humbling and incredibly rewarding.” At home, Nathan enjoys playing music, playing board games, and doing scent work with his dog (Jazmin).

Licensed Veterinary Technicians, or LVTs, in animal medicine are the equivalent of Registered Nurses in human medicine. Trained in everything from emergency triage and wound care to running lab equipment, doing dental procedures and assisting with surgery,
administering anesthesia, vaccines and medications, and so much more, LVTs are the backbone of every veterinary practice. With so many other better-paying, less physically and emotionally demanding jobs available, these under-recognized medical professionals are becoming harder and harder to find.

LVT Courtney has been working for 8 years, with experience in both specialty and emergency medicine. She enjoys being able to build relationships with clients and patients, and is invested in patient care. When not at work, she loves spending time outside, at the beach, and traveling. Courtney, her husband and adorable baby boy share their home with 4 dogs and 7 cats.
LVT Stephanie has been a veterinary technician for more than 23 years. She has worked in a variety of hospitals including a mixed animal practice, a cats only practice, emergency and general practices. When she is not at work she is most likely traveling to Arizona, Utah or some other faraway destination to go hiking. Stephanie lives in Crozet with her husband and 5 cats. She has 4 daughters and 1 granddaughter.
LVT Emily has worked in the veterinary field for more than 20 years, developing a strong background in small animal, equine, and emergency medicine. Because of her passion for high quality medicine, urgent care, and her interest in developing a community-based practice for pet lovers, she co-founded Autumn Trails Veterinary Center with Dr. Cardoza. When not running the hospital and working with her team as an LVT, Emily maintains a small farm in Keswick with her husband and two young children.
LVT Amanda has been an avid animal lover since childhood and started her veterinary career at just 19 years old. Originally from Long Island, NY, she and her husband moved to Virginia about 5 years ago and are currently dedicated parents to 4 cats and 3 dogs. She loves taking the dogs for walks and being outdoors.
LVT Kelly is a graduate of Blue Ridge Community College. She values providing care and support to both animals and their people. When not at work, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family and critters, working in the garden, and being out in nature.
LVT Jessie, originally from Alexandria, VA, became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2015. She has worked at both primary care and emergency hospitals, and is currently pursuing a pet loss grief counseling certification from the American Institute of Health Care Professionals.
She has a passion for rescuing senior beagles, and is particularly interested in pain management and senior pet care. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, trying new recipes and listening to true crime podcasts. She currently lives in Barboursville with her wonderful husband, adventurous daughter and crazy pups.
LVT Michelle has always had a love for animals, especially the unique kind! She did her externship for vet tech school at Zoo Atlanta, and after getting her license she worked at The Naples Zoo in Florida for 7 years. She then moved into a clinical setting, working at hospitals specializing in exotics in VA and NC. Now here at Autumn Trails, she enjoys the fast pace of an urgent care hospital and getting to see lots of interesting cases.
She recently settled in Scottsville where she lives with her husband Connor, her Greyhound Sully, her Foxhound Kyle, her Mustang horse Gucci, 2 cats, a pancake tortoise and a ball python snake. In her free time she enjoys riding her horse and anything outdoors she can do with her 2 dogs.
