n New York’s fast-paced culture, where productivity is often synonymous with success, days are scheduled to the brim, and breakfast is frequently replaced by a rushed iced coffee. Moreover, people often push through early warning signs from their bodies until a doctor’s visit becomes unavoidable. According to Dr. Serene Feng, founder of PhoenixCare, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and holistic wellness center, this modern lifestyle depletes the body and contributes to a long list of

Moxibustion is the practice of burning dried mugwort near specific acupuncture points to stimulate circulation, and it’s gaining increasing popularity in Western countries. In Elite’s exclusive interview, Dr. Feng shared her perspective on the therapy and explains why nurturing yang qi—the positive, vital energy that supports resilience—is especially important for those navigating the demands of urban life.

THE BLIND SPOTS OF CITY LIFE “Based on my observations, more than 90 percent of people today can benefit from moxibustion therapy, especially those living in cities like New York,” Dr. Feng said. Since the pandemic, many people have spent long hours seated in front of computers, with their minds racing and fingers f lying across keyboards. As a result, their blood flow and vital energy tend to become concentrated in the upper body, while the lower body receives less movement and circulation. This allows “han qi”, or cold energy, to gradually accumulate and create imbalance in the body. Moreover, Dr. Feng said that many people have misconceptions about what constitutes a healthy diet. In her clinical practice, she frequently sees health-conscious patients unknowingly depleting their yang qi by starting the day off with an iced smoothie, eating a cold salad for lunch, and finishing the evening with large portions of meat, cheese, and foods that are hard to digest. “New Yorkers love salads, but regularly eating large amounts of raw, cold foods can lead to the accumulation of han qi in the body,” she said. The morning is a crucial time for the body’s yang qi to activate, and cold foods and beverages interfere with that process. wo years ago, on a Saturday, in broad daylight, I was stopped by a young man wearing a black ski mask. He pointed a gun at my face and demanded that I hand over my phone, my wallet, my laptop and everything else.” Iris Tao shared her experience during a cabinet meeting hosted by President Donald Trump in August 2025. In an exclusive interview with Elite, Ms. Tao, New Tang Dynasty (NTD) Television’s White House correspondent, said she had not anticipated the widespread media attention her story would receive. "As they say, blessings and misfortunes travel together. Being robbed was truly a terrifying experience, but who knew that two years later, it would create such an opportunity for me to share this story and that it would resonate with so many people." mperor Tang Xuanzong (685–762 C.E.) was renowned for his love of the arts. Highly accomplished in music and composition, he is credited with many works, none more celebrated than Ni Shang Yu Yi Qu, or Song of Rainbow Skirt and Feathered Dress. Shen Yun Performing Arts brought this beloved legend to life in its 2013 dance, The Emperor Journeys to the Moon. Breathtakingly beautiful and imaginative, the performance captured the poetry and splendor of this classic tale.

On an autumn evening, while admiring the full moon in the imperial courtyard of Chang’an, Tang Xuanzhong dismissed his attendants and drifted into sleep. In his dream, the moon goddess and her celestial maidens led him to the Moon Palace, where he enjoyed an ethereal performance of dance and music. Deeply moved, the emperor memorized the divine melody and, upon waking, composed it as Ni Shang Yu Yi Qu. He later choreographed a dance to accompany it. The performance soon spread throughout the Tang Empire, and to this day, the composition is one of the most cherished musical pieces in Chinese history. Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. In the decades since the communist regime seized power, traditional Chinese culture was forced to the brink of extinction. The artists’ mission is to revive China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired civilization and share with the world the beauty of China before communism. In The Emperor Journeys to the Moon, Shen Yun combined the grace of classical Chinese dance with flowing costumes and dreamlike imagery on its patented 3D digital backdrop. Paired with a live orchestra that uses Western orchestration as the foundation to highlight Chinese instruments and melodies, the result is an immersive feast for the senses. Even without spoken dialogue, the dancers’ expressive movements and facial expressions make the story easy to follow for audiences with no prior knowledge of Chinese culture. The piece conveys a full range of emotions, moving from the emperor’s longing for the transcendent and for moments of quiet reflection, to his joyful celebration of dance, music, and divine connection. The musical score, composed by Shen Yun conductor, pianist, and composer Gao Yuan, complements the choreography while also standing on its own as a symphonic work. The clear tones of the pipa—an ancient Chinese lute—are woven throughout the piece, lending a distinct traditional voice to the rich symphonic texture. Many emperors in Chinese history, regardless of their military prowess or diplomatic achievements, have faded from memory. Inexplicably, the legend of Emperor Tang Xuanzong’s journey to the moon endured. With the help of Shen Yun’s interpretation, may this beautiful tale—like the moon’s eternal cycles— continue to captivate hearts for generations to come.
