A calm leisure park for the students of Thapathali campus, Tribhuvan University as an interactive rest area during breaks. Located right next to bustling heavy traffic road, the design aims to create a natural barrier from the air and noise pollution creating an ecological oasis for the students integrating native plants to restore biodiversity. Introduction/ Analysis
C A M P U S S I T E P L A N // C O N T E X T The site is located right next to a busy street which has heavy traffic during peak hours. The design intent is to create a buffer using vegetation to create peaceful environment at the park for students to be able to relax and interact. Currently, the park site is isolated and barren, making it a dull space in conjunction with surrounding mechanical lab building giving it a monotonous feeling.
MAIN ENTRY.
This site is to be transformed to a space for student interaction, revival of biodiversity and a space fore leisure and relaxation.

Leisure area for those who prefer secluded area
1.Interaction : Positioned centrally and in a U-shaped axis, it is intended to invite the students into the park and foster a space for conversation 2.Identity: Being a campus park, the design integrates a metal sculptor inspired by the iconic star logo of Tribhuvan University 3.Inclusivity: the park is designed to be accessible for all. Using tactiles and sensory vegetation to guide the blind, mild slopes and grading for wheelchair users and an overall safe environment without obstructions Curves used to break the monotony of the rectilinear masterplan of the campus and give a sense of ease and casualness for the students as a space to relax and achieve mental clarity.. Site divided into 3 major parts have a function of their own. Separated by smooth curvilinear lines, it gives a sense of flow and ease in circulation to the users.

M A S T E R P L A N // M AT E R I A L S E L E C T I O N The main paving is interlocking hexagonal paving blocks which are high strength, skid and slip resistant. They are low maitainence and cab easily removed and installed again when repairs are needed. One of its most important features is its ground water recharge capacity, it allows water to flow through soil layers and maintain the water table. Tactiles have been used along main pathways to aid the visually impaired. PVC wood planks are used on seatings for easy cleaning, and its anti weathering properties. Concept of “ECOLOGICAL MOUNDS” has been integrated along nature trail to provide shelter to insects, lizards, butterflies etc.

Kirat Cultural Park and Homestay is designed keeping in mind the traditional vernacular architecture of the kirats who are an indigeneous group of Bhojpur, Nepal. The masterplans’ main two focal points are the sikuwa courtyard and the yalambar park. Sikuwa courtyard is used as a space for events and interaction while yamalbar park pays homage to the first kirati king. The accommodation units are placed to grasp the splendid view of the mountains.

The Kirati People , Culture & Settlement: The site is in Bhojpur, Nepal, a hilly/mountainous district in Kosi Zone is one of the richest districts in biodiversity in Nepal. This project is deeply rooted in the culture and lifestyle of the Kirats. The homestay and park is designed to emulate a traditional kirat village/ settlement form. With the use of circular courtyards, narrow streets and alleyways, it is reminiscent of the ancient Kirat villages.

The traditional kirati house is made of stone and mud walls, timber doors and windows and a two-way thatch roof.. Cow dung is used for floor finishing and traditional red mud is used for interior and exterior wall finishes.
Kirats have high respect for the first Kirati king, Yalamber who established the kingdom in 800 BC He is known as the greatest kirat warrior and ruler. Hence, a . Park with his statue is designed here to pay respect to his legacy.
The Sakela celebration is a prayer to mother nature for healthy crops and protection from calamities Sakela dance performed by Kirats, wearing their traditional attire where they dance together in a large circle.

Design Intent
T H E S I K U W A C O U R T YA R D
Vernacular Kirati Architecture Sikuwas are semi open verandahs placed right next to main living space. It acts as a transitional area connecting indoors to outdoors. It is furnished with traditional seats called khatiya for leisure time and observing activities in the adjacent courtyard. The traditional house layout has this integration of “Sanghar” and “Sikuwa”. Sikuwa courtyard is developed as a circular cluster with the main open space in the center, people can observe dances and performances in the courtyard while sitting in the sikuwa verandah. This maintains a visual connection between performer and viewers. : The local kirati house is constructed using locally available materials that are climate responsive and hence more sustainable.

Hexscapes is a campus park project for the students at Public Health, Tribhuvan university inspired by the micro hexagonal shape of human cell membrane as the students here as medical/health science major. This park is specifically intended for young students hence organic irregular shapes are used for a sense of flow. Keeping the user demographic in mind, a contemporary, modern and sleek style is inherent in this campus park. The site for this park is on sloped terrain and the park plot is located below the road level. Hence. Stepped seating and plantation arrangements are made to reduce project expenses on extra earth fill and heavy retaining walls.

The basic site lines and form are derived from the hexagonal shape of the human cell membrane. The lines are intended to be irregular and free flowing to create a juxtaposition between the formal rectilinear plan of surrounding buildings. The site plan is divided into 3 main seating/ collection zones,

Zone 1 is Stepped Seating area reminiscent of a small amphitheater, which can be used as a group seating and an outdoor reading area Zone 2 is a raised platform area for students who prefer spending time in nature in solitude, hence separate seatings are placed here.. Zone 3 is a curved seating area for smaller groups, an area for interaction and leisure. To separate it from parking , tall hedges are planted for barrier.

I will also aid in recharging groundwater • The material palette for the park is mostly pebbles, stone and concrete to adhere to budget constraint. 04 Ripple Villa Garden Chhetrapati, Kathmandu Residential Landscape Academic Work | 2019

As part of the Landscape and site planning studio, I was tasked with designing a residential landscape creating an imaginary client brief. My client is joint family, with lots of members and children. The space is hence designed to be multi functional and provide space for the aged as well as the children. The garden for the Villa is intended to serve clients requirements of a multifunctional space. A space for morning jogs, family brunches and barbeques , a relaxing space for the family pets, and ample parking area for all family members. The garden design is inspired by concentric shapes of a ripple, to create a sense of easy and flow with curves. With small details and elements taken from Japanese Zen gardens, this space is a zone for relaxation and calm.

Inspiration from Ripples…
Just as a ripple has subtle layers to it and has a sense of relaxation while watching it, the plan is inspired by the concentric circles of a ripple. and designed in different layers serving a different function keeping different age demographic of the family in mind. The 3 main circles are : The jogging lane for health enthusiast family members, a garden lawn table area for who enjoy dining outdoors, a sculptor/décor zone for aesthetics. Other spaces include a shaded deck for family gatherings and a huge parking space.

JAPANESE GARDEN INSPIRED ACCENTS Attention has been paid to small accent walls and details for this residential villa. Continuing with the circular theme , this arched accent wall is placed right next to entry as a focal point. Small mounds and stone sculptors have been added to create visual texture. 05 KIRTIPUR HERITAGE CONSERVATION PLAN Kirtipur, Nepal, Academic Work | 2020 Conservation Studio Semester V
After the massive 2015 earthquake in Nepal, majority of the towns were affected immensely. The historical town of Kirtipur also saw the consequences. This town rich in architecture and traditional construction techniques faced a lot of damage. In this conservation plan, a master basemap was prepared using GPS and site measurements to plot 2500 plus buildings, temples and squares. Interacting daily with the locals of Kirtipur and there was of living, the design proposal focused on short term and long-term proposal for conservation and revival keeping in mind the user need and site significance.

Site analysis and mapping process
E X P LO R I N G A N D A S S E S I N G K I R T I P U R Kirtipur is a historical ancient city with stunning views, numerous monuments and temples. Impacted by the 2015 earthquake, our team assessed Kirtipur , tracing, measuring and plotting more than 2500 buildings, understanding their condition and damage levels. Along with this, it was Iin public interest to preserve the towns heritage and create specific tourist hubs to promote the culture of Kirtipur and use it as a source of income for locals. Our team used the surveyed data collected to prepare an analysis of the settlement which will be used for future references. With all the infrastructures located, settlement studied, the critical areas with respect to culture, environment and also earthquake damage were identified. The knowledge gathered in the mapping process was used in the design phase of the conservation studio project.

In the site study, primary data were collected through a tabulated form designed to capture the physical conditions of the settlement, as perceived by the dwellers. The checklist was framed in sections: Building material, Building damage, Style, storey and road hierarchy..

These basemaps were produced on the first phase of survey which involved documentation and mapping of the whole town based on site inspection, measurements and survey. This became the basis for the second phase which was making proposals and designs for conservation of this historic town.

Reimagining Kirtipur: Through Routes to Roots
HERITAGE WALK ROUTES The design proposal focused on identifying areas with potential and areas of concerning and developing them as heritage hubs. In our plan for creating Heritage Walks, @ main routes were marked: 1) Main connecting route: connecting the 7 sub routes, this walk was designed focusing on tourists who would like to explore all parts of Kirtipur 2) The 7 subset routes: these roots focused on a specific targeted activity. For example.\, Hastakala Marg focused on handricrafts markets and workshops for local and international tourists.

DESIGN PROPOSALS | IDENTIFIED AREAS The existing steps at Indrayani Square reconstructed and reimagined as a socially active interactive event and leisure space. With the addition of Shaded tree seats called chautaras , it creates a space for evening tea and conersations in the community. At times of special events and festivals, the steps can be used as a amphitheater type stepped seating to watch cultural performances and dances..

06 NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING Academic Work | 2019 Planning Design Studio Semester IV
Neighborhood planning was introduced as a major studio project in Design studio in the 4th year in the curriculum. The objective of this project was to design a township integrating residential , commercial, industrial zones, parks, schools, health clinics and all other basic physical infrastructures. Along with this social and cultural aspect of the site were also to be kept in mind while following all planning and building codes. Concept of “LINKAGE THROUGH SHARED SPACES” which was shown using a chain link of the main Arterial road and green belt. The town named “ Samagriha” translates to “for everyone”, which is used while planning to ensure equity and equal opportunities regardless of gender, religion or economic class.

FARM ON WHEELS through the linkage trail, focus on farmers market to promote local agriculture
Masterplan is divided into 4 main sectors . Sector 1 and 2 along the main connecting road has commercial cum residential building, Sector 3 has a connection to nearby river, hence agricultural activities are concentrated in this sector for water connection. Sector 4 has mostly detached and semi detached houses and high rise apartment buildings The neighborhood design integrated pockets of green parks, open spaces with different functions as per various sectors and zones. The community center located at the center nested between the crossover of two main links i.e. arterial road and green belt has a amphitheater space for community gatherings, while the residential areas have farmers market areas to promote local agro products..
