It has been such a privilege to work with your awe-inspiring children enrolled in our programs this year as they learned new ways to Imagine Tomorrow!

Arts education creates tomorrow’s leaders – enhancing the creative capacity of young people and empowering them to analyze, innovate and create. The most lasting way to secure your child’s future is by unleashing their capacity for innovative thinking, preparing them to be problem solvers today and tomorrow.

To persevere in problem solving, one must be self-motivated and engaged, and there is nothing that engages our brains like the arts.

Numerous studies have reinforced what we see time and time again – when children experience information by participating in the arts, it takes hold in their minds in ways nothing else can. Year after year, we get to see firsthand how the arts are so often a catalyst for extraordinary change in a child’s life. This year has been no exception.

Your children will inspire you today. I urge you to open your mind to the untold possibilities of their lives. And I hope you will always encourage them to Imagine Tomorrow!

mission & vision The Cathedral Arts Project is the leading provider of comprehensive and ongoing instruction in the visual and performing arts for elementary and middle school students in Duval County.

Our mission is to enrich the quality of life in Northeast Florida through unleashing the creative spirit of young people.

By providing access to free standards-based instruction in the visual and performing arts, we empower underserved, school-aged children to succeed in all areas of their lives.

Our vision is for every child in Northeast Florida to have access to a well-rounded, arts-rich education that endows his or her spirit with the imagination, self-confidence and strength of character that inspires great leadership and a will to succeed not just in the classroom, but also in life.

performance & exhibition

Showcasing student work is a mainstay of CAP programs, serving as a reward for students’ hard work and reinforcing the self-confidence and maturity fostered in classes. CAP students annually participate in at least two public exhibitions or performances.

The Visual and Performing Arts Showcases are the ultimate finale for all CAP students. Each visual artist is allowed individual exhibition space and each musician, dancer and actor is given appropriate materials with which to perform. From new and properly-fitting dance shoes to appropriately sized violins, CAP ensures all students who create works of art for the showcases are given every opportunity to shine. This is critical – for most students, it is their first time exhibiting a piece of art or performing on a professional stage.

Through an extensive program portfolio including afterschool, school day and summer programs, cultural experiences, advocacy, community partnerships and professional development for teaching artists, CAP seeks to:

Instruct using a standardsbased curriculum that immerses students in the vocabulary, history and beauty of an art form.

Instill through rigorous and sequential learning, building students’ skills over the course of a year.

Inspire students by introducing professional, diverse, working artists through field trips to arts and culture venues and presentations at program sites.

Provide gateway experiences to show students what a life informed by arts and culture looks and feels like.

Chaffee Trail Elementary School Ms. Cagle began her formal visual arts education at the age of 9. She graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and received a degree in sculpture from the Atlanta College of Art. Ms. Cagle is versed in many processes of sculpture making, including stone working, woodworking, welding, forge working, casting, assemblage and installation. Teaching art making to both young and old brings her great joy. She joined CAP as the visual arts teaching artist at Camp Encore in 2018.

Callie Honeysuckle

Mayport Elementary Coastal Sciences Academy Ms. Honeysuckle is a long-time resident of Jacksonville Beach and a graduate of the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in art education. She is an accomplished artist who taught art in Duval County for 10 years and began two small businesses, Hands of Honeysuckle and Honey Baby. Ms. Honeysuckle has been an active member of the local arts community and was the featured artist for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival poster in 2005. She began teaching for CAP in 2007.

Moises Ramos

Beauclerc Elementary School Mr. Ramos holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of Puerto Rico. He has received many awards for his artwork in both Latin America and the United States. Mr. Ramos was awarded the 2009 Memphis Wood Excellence in Teaching Award and the 2010 Cultural Council Arts Educator of the Year Award. He joined CAP in 2010 and is a duallanguage teacher.

John E. Goode Pre-Trial Detention Facility Mr. Rodrigues is a North Floridabased artist working in a variety of mediums. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Atlanta College of Art, where he studied painting, printmaking and photography. Mr. Rodrigues has exhibited widely for over 20 years in many galleries and institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville and the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. He joined CAP in 2014.

Crystal Rodriguez Boys and Girls Club – Southwind Villas

Ms. Rodriguez is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education. With a passion for helping students have access to the arts, she has served as an art teacher for seven years at organizations including City Kids Art Factory, YMCA Team Up and Wright Way to Higher Learning. She began teaching for CAP in 2016.

Jill Stanton

Youth Crisis Center Ms. Stanton is a graduate of University of North Florida with a degree in Psychology. She has been teaching art in various settings for over 15 years and is passionate about using art as a form of therapy to deal with daily stress and depression. She has taught students of all ages, from 4 to 104. This is Ms. Stanton’s first year teaching for CAP.

Ms. Baker is a Georgia native and graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management. She has been dancing since she was six years old at various studios and took many dance classes during her time at VSU. She is the founder of Emerge Dance, Inc., and has been teaching dance in Jacksonville since relocating in 2015.

Ms. Baker joined CAP in 2016.

Ms. Bishop has always had a love for the arts. She graduated from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts with a concentration in theatre, holds Bachelor’s degrees in Spanish languages and cultures and biomedical sciences, and recently graduated from University of North Florida with her Master’s in public health. Kaleb “KO” Gardner | Hip-Hop Highlands Elementary School

Mr. Gardner came to Jacksonville from San Diego, CA, and has been traveling and performing throughout the South since the age of 12. He has shared the stage with some of the entertainment industry’s finest and has been featured on “The Word Network,” the largest African-American religious television network in the world. Mr. Gardner taught hip-hop for CAP in 2016-2017 and is excited to return this year.

Paisley Gibson | Ballet Brentwood Elementary School

Mrs. Gibson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance performance from Jacksonville University. She studied dance and theatre at Savannah Arts Academy, where she was also an avid community theatre performer.

Mrs. Gibson has worked as a dance instructor and choreographer for organizations including Savannah Arts Academy, Don’t Miss a Beat, Inc., and Fusion Arts Academy. In addition to her CAP classes, she teaches K-5 dance at Brentwood Elementary School of the Arts. She began teaching for CAP in 2013.

Marilyn Gilman | Nutrition Brentwood Elementary School

Ms. Gilman holds a degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of North Florida. As a nutrition educator, she teaches 4th and 5th graders about basic nutrition and the importance of staying healthy while participating in group dance classes. Before this role, Ms. Gilman raised two boys while earning an Athletics and Fitness Association of America certification for personal training. She is currently enrolled in the National Academy of Sports Medicine training program.

Ariadna Perez | Strings San Jose Elementary School

Ms. Perez earned a Bachelor of Arts in music performance from the University of North Florida and also attended the National School of the Arts in Havana, Cuba. Ms. Perez taught elementary school for 13 years in the Dominican Republic. She has performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Matanzas (Cuba), the Dominican Republic’s National Symphony Orchestra and the Coastal Symphony Orchestra of Georgia. She joined CAP in 2013.

Aaron Plotz | Percussion

Parkwood Heights Elementary School Mr. Plotz received his Bachelor of Arts in music with an emphasis in percussion performance from the University of North Florida. He currently teaches private lessons out of his home studio, Music and Arts, and at Pine Castle, an agency that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Mr. Plotz has been playing professionally in Jacksonville for 10 years and currently plays with several groups that travel throughout Florida and Georgia. He joined CAP in 2016 and returned in March 2019.

Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary School Mr. Stone graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Music Education and Performance and is a full-time music teacher at Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary School. As a violist, he has performed with today’s leading artists and ensembles. Mr. Stone joined CAP in 2013.

Jacksonville Heights Elementary School, Kirby Smith Middle School, Spring Park Elementary School, Venetia Elementary School Ms. Swider is a graduate of Florida State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in theatre. She has worked professionally as an actor and director in Florida and Ohio and enjoys being an active part of the Jacksonville theatre community. In addition to teaching theatre, she also enjoys writing and directing.

Her play SEND/END was featured in the Atlanta Fringe Festival, and her sketches are featured in many Awkward Silence Jax shows. Ms. Swider is excited to return to CAP as the first theatre teaching artist fellow at four schools this year.

Christa Sylla | West African Dance

Ruth N. Upson Elementary School Ms. Sylla has been sharing the joy of cultural dance with the Jacksonville community for over 14 years. As a director, instructor and choreographer, she has received notoriety for her warm and passionate personality and innovative choreography. In November 2015, Ms. Sylla joined the adjunct faculty at Douglas Anderson as a World Dance instructor and has taught master classes at Douglas Anderson, LaVilla and Florida State College at Jacksonville. A former CAP teaching artist, she returned in 2017 to bring West African dance back to CAP.

Monica Wakefield | Nutrition

Highlands Elementary School Ms. Wakefield is a Brooks College of Health graduate and has committed herself to serving justice-involved adolescents in her community.

For the past three years, she has demonstrated her passion for juvenile restorative justice initiatives by working with the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center and the Girls’ Leadership Council. This is her second year as a nutrition educator with CAP, where she truly enjoys empowering students to make healthy choices.

Myerly Wolff | Nutrition John E. Ford Pre K-8 School

Ms. Wolff is a registered dietitian and holds a Master of Science in nutrition from The Ohio State University. After completing graduate school, she returned to her hometown of Miami where she worked as a pediatric dietitian in a large teaching hospital for over 16 years. During this time, she authored and co-authored several nutrition articles appearing in various scientific journals and was a reviewer for the pediatric nutrition chapters in the Florida Dietetic Manual. She enjoys running, boxing and biking and has run two marathons. This is Ms. Wolff’s first year teaching for CAP.

Elyse Card

Chief Financial & Administrative Officer

The Rev. Kimberly L. Hyatt | President & CEO Reverend Hyatt brought a diverse background to the Cathedral Arts Project when she became President & CEO in 2002. Her 25-year career is notable for developing new initiatives, growing programs, formalizing structures and processes and executing to achieve goals. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Presbyterian College and her Master’s degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. She moved to Jacksonville in 1996 after working as a business lobbyist in Washington, D.C. She serves as President of the Trustees for the Presbytery of St. Augustine as well as on its Permanent Judicial Commission. She also serves on the Board of Governors for the JAX Chamber. She is an active member of Downtown Rotary, the Jacksonville Women’s Network, and the Chamber’s Downtown Development Committee, and a past board member of The Cathedral School, Heritage Singers of Jacksonville, Hubbard House and Community Connections. She was named a Woman of Influence by the Jacksonville Business Journal in 2015, was a finalist for the EVE Award in 2014, received the Woman of Vision Award by Girls Inc. in 2011, the Boundless: 40 Years, 40 Icons Award from the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville in 2016, and was a Jacksonville Business Journal Ultimate CEO honoree in 2017.

Janette Allen

Vice President of Development Janette received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Art History from the University of West Alabama in 1992.

It was her study of art history that changed her life, and she went on to take graduate courses in arts administration at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Janette brings 26 years of fundraising experience to her role at CAP, where she is responsible for leading the development team and overseeing the strategic direction for CAP’s philanthropic efforts. After beginning her career at the Art Institute of Chicago, she moved to Jacksonville in 1998 and became the Director of Development for UNF’s College of Computing, Engineering and Construction. After seven years at UNF, she held a year-long position at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens before moving to the University of Florida Shands Healthcare. Prior to joining the CAP team, Janette worked as the Director of Development for Flagler College.

Janette has experience in major and deferred giving and has built and sustained individual relationships throughout her career. In addition to being involved in successful comprehensive campaigns, she has experience in building development programs.

Cenetta Baker

Development Coordinator Cenetta is a Georgia native and graduate of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management and a Master of Public Administration. She has been dancing since she was six years old at various studios and took many dance classes during her time at VSU. She is the founder of Emerge Dance, Inc., and has been teaching dance in Jacksonville since relocating in 2015.

Cenetta began teaching dance for CAP in 2016 and joined the administrative staff in 2017. She is responsible for supporting the development activities of the organization and continues to teach dance at John E. Ford Pre K-8 Montessori School two afternoons a week.

A Jacksonville native, Elyse earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida. Prior to joining the Cathedral Arts Project, she acted both as an accountant and financial consultant to various local businesses and brings more than 10 years of experience to the CAP team.

She is responsible for the financial and risk management operations of the Cathedral Arts Project, in addition to all financial accounting and bookkeeping, including overseeing preparation and implementation of the organizational budget and maintaining vendor relations.

Elyse has a lifelong history with and love of the arts, having grown up taking piano and dance lessons, as well as performing in local theatre productions. She also has served on the board of the MOCA Contemporaries and volunteered her time with various arts organizations, such as the Youth of the Beaches Arts Guild in Jacksonville and LEAF Community Arts in Asheville, NC.

Jennifer Clements Communications & Marketing Manager

Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communications from Elon University in 2010. Before joining the CAP team in 2014 she worked in both development and operations at Jacksonville University and Greenshades Software, respectively, bringing a diverse range of skills with her.

In her role as Communications & Marketing Manager, Jennifer ensures the organization’s mission and vision are consistently communicated both internally and externally.

She serves as CAP’s media liaison, helps implement all marketing campaigns and manages the production of all printed collateral.

Jennifer began her appreciation of the arts early in life, taking piano lessons from age 5 and dancing throughout elementary and middle school. She was a member of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2003. She has sung with the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus and is currently a member of Jacksonville University’s Choral Union.

Allison GallowayGonzalez

Chief Program Officer & Executive Director of Any Given Child Jacksonville After earning her Master of Arts from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, in 2003, Allison began her career at the University of Central Florida’s Department of Education. During her tenure, she facilitated a K-12 literacy integration course and a training course for online teaching. She then became the Associate Director at the Austin Museum of Art – The Art School where her duties were to create and manage art programs for more than 5,500 students of all ages annually.

Allison joined CAP after serving as the Director of Education for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville where she contributed to the improvement of the museum’s educational services for all ages and abilities. In 2018, Allison was honored as one of Jacksonville Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 and received the Friend of Art Education Award from the Florida Art Education Association.

Sarah Hande

Director of Development Sarah comes from a family of artists and grew up taking dance, piano and calligraphy lessons. She graduated from the University of Mary Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in art history and endeavors to make sure art is a part of her and her family’s daily life. Sarah is committed to doing her part to ensure arts education continues to have a place in schools and that young people throughout our community have access to and instruction in the visual and performing arts.

Sarah helps CAP achieve its mission by securing funding for programs and overseeing fundraising operations. She brings with her more than 20 years of experience in project management and community engagement. In 2003 she moved to Jacksonville and joined the City of Jacksonville’s Office of Special Events. Following her term at the city, she worked at Florida Blue managing employee engagement programs, leading its annual employee giving campaign and supporting senior leadership in community engagement efforts. Prior to joining CAP, Sarah was the Associate Director of Development at MOCA Jacksonville.

Chief Marketing Officer Forrest leads the organization in all communications and marketing efforts, gallery management, and signature special events, such as Jacksonville’s premier fundraising event for arts education, Spring for the Arts. Throughout the year, she assures the organization’s programs, campaigns and initiatives are consistently presented in a strong, positive image that drive growth and progress toward CAP’s mission and vision.

Forrest joined CAP in 2008 from Stellers Gallery, where she was Gallery Director. A graduate of Hollins University, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and received the Margaret Markley Smith Award. She was also the first student in university history to have artwork purchased by the university to include in its permanent collection.

Elise Johnson

Marketing & Advocacy Manager After graduating from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Communication, Elise worked for GuideWell Connect, formerly DVA, as a producer. Elise has a lifelong appreciation for the visual and performing arts and more than 12 years of experience in communications and project management.

Elise serves as CAP’s Marketing and Advocacy Manager to ensure excellence across all digital media platforms and leads the organization’s social media efforts. She is also responsible for gallery openings, event rentals and other community events, such as Spring for the Arts and Curating Confidence.

In addition, Elise has experience working in the CAP program department. She uses this knowledge to nurture relationships with teachers, students, alumni and families.

Elise is proud to showcase CAP’s programs, providing each individual we serve with a voice and advocate for arts education in our community.

more about CAP Kristin Livingston Director of Programs

Kristin is responsible for the effective and efficient administration of CAP’s visual and performing arts programs.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Florida State University and a Masters of Public Administration with a focus in nonprofit management from the University of North Florida. With more than a decade of experience in arts education, she has worked for many arts organizations in Jacksonville, including the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Wilson Center for the Arts at FSCJ South Campus, where she helped launch the Summer Musical Theatre Experience (SMTE).

Kristin is an active member of the theatre community in Jacksonville and previously served on the board of directors for The 5 & Dime, a Theatre Company. She was also a member of the 2018 ImpactJAX Hightower Emerging Leaders Fellowship class.

Ariani Pena

Program Coordinator Ariani is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology.

Originally from Miami, Ariani has fallen in love with Jacksonville through her philanthropic work with Rotaract Club at UNF, Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry and CAP. Ariani began as an intern for the Cathedral Arts Project in 2016. She now serves as the Program Coordinator, providing support for CAP’s direct service programs by making sure teaching artists receive the support they need and students enter a safe space to explore and build a passion in the arts.

Ariani also leads the planning of CAP’s annual visual and performing arts showcases.

Akacia Powell

Program Data Specialist Akacia, a Virgin Islands native, brings more than four years of data experience to her role as data specialist. She is responsible for collecting and reporting data on the progress and performance of CAP students, programs and sites throughout the year.

Before joining the CAP team, Akacia served as an active duty Marine in various parts of the United States as an administrative specialist. She is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from California Baptist University and plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in public administration after graduating in May 2019.

Her altruistic nature inspires her to use her talents to serve members within the community, starting with the students enrolled in CAP’s programs. She is excited to be a part of the CAP team and looks forward to transforming CAP’s data so that it can be used to serve students across Jacksonville.

Heather Sloan

Business Manager Heather, a Jacksonville native, is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in art history and a minor in visual arts. She grew up with a love of the arts, having taken dance classes since she was a toddler.

Heather began volunteering for CAP through the CAPtivators in 2012 and joined the administrative staff in 2018, serving as the Business Manager. Before arriving at CAP, Heather served as the Senior Operations Assistant at MOCA Jacksonville, and previously interned at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.

Katie Swider

Theatre Teaching Artist Fellow Katie is a graduate of Florida State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in theatre. She has worked professionally as an actor and director in Florida and Ohio and enjoys being an active part of the Jacksonville theatre community. Most recently she was seen in How I Learned to Drive, at The 5 & Dime, A Theatre Company.

Katie is excited to join the Cathedral Arts Project family as the first teaching artist fellow. In addition to teaching four theatre classes at sites throughout Jacksonville, she works with the Program department in the office part-time each week and coordinates Camp Encore, CAP’s multidisciplinary summer camp.

Tiffany Wilbourn

Executive Assistant to the President & CEO Tiffany attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where she studied Biology and Business Administration. During her time at FAMU, she worked as an administrative assistant for the Children’s Home Society and as an intern at CSX during her school breaks. Following her studies, Tiffany worked in customer service at Landstar before moving to Chase, where she quickly rose through the ranks to become an Operations Senior Specialist. She moved on to JP Morgan Chase and ITEL Laboratories before joining the CAP team in 2018.

Tiffany brings more than 10 years of customer service experience to the table and is excited to grow in her role as Executive Assistant to the President & CEO. In addition to executive office management, she also works closely with the board of directors and manages all internal office operations.
