Second Annual PJT Awards Banquet The Second Annual Philadelphia Junior Tour Awards Dinner and Celebration will take place on December 1, 2018.

RULES OF GOLF—NEW RULE 12-1,2 BALL IN BUNKER

A Preview of the New Rules of Golf: Rule 12-1, 2: Ball in Bunker With 2018 nearing an end, that also means that the current Rules of Golf are also coming to their own end. On January 1, 2019 the newly revised Rules of Golf will take effect and change the way the game is played at every level. One of the many changes is surrounding Bunkers and how players may approach them when their ball may lie in one. New Rule 12-1 explains the definition of when a players ball may be in the bunker (see diagram or click to expand). A key part of this rule is that a ball that lies on grass or soil naturally growing within the bunker, the ball is deemed to not be in the bunker. The next part of New Rule 12 dis-

Rule 12-1: Ball in Bunker cusses Playing the ball from the bunker and what a player may do or not do during the preparation and play of the shot. Under New Rule 15-1 and 2, a player may remove loose impediments and movable obstructions. The most important parts of New Rule 12 -2 cover when a player is allowed to touch the sand in the bunker. Testing the sand, touching with a club or making a practice stroke or backswing is not allowed under New Rule 12-1. Digging your feet into the bunker to get a stance is still allowed and doesn’t count as “touching or testing the sand.” Also now allowed is resting on your club in the bunker. Under New Rule 12, the penalty for breach of the rule is the General Penalty, or two strokes.
