Know the Rules: What’s it all about? Rule 14.3c applies whenever a player must drop a ball in taking relief under a Rule. How does it work? Anytime a player must drop either their original ball or another ball in a relief area it must be dropped in the right way. First the player must choose his or her reference point. Next the player will need to identify the relief area which is either one or two club lengths to either side of the reference point no nearer to the hole. Last the player must drop a ball straight down from knee height. Once the ball comes to rest in the relief area the player has completed taking relief. Rule 14.3c In Action: John’s ball comes to rest on a sprinkler head in the middle of the fairway. He decides to take relief (Rule 16.1b) from this immovable obstruction. First, John marks his reference point directly behind the sprinkler head with a tee. He then takes his longest club other than his putter and measures one club length to the left and places another tee at the end of his club. Next he drops a ball straight down from knee height and it lands in his relief area but rolls closer to the hole. John picks his first dropped ball up and repeats his drop. This time the ball comes to rest within the relief area. John’s ball is now back in play and he has completed taking relief from the immovable obstruction. If John’s second drop also rolled forward of his reference point he would have had to place the ball within the relief area to complete taking relief (Rule 14.3c(2)). Why is Rule 14.3c Important? Rule 14.3c is important because if you make a stroke at a ball that was dropped in the wrong way you will be assessed a 1 stroke penalty. Also if you make a stroke at a ball that rolls out of the relief area you are playing from the wrong place and will be assessed the general penalty of 2 strokes (Rule 14.7).

Join The PJT 12 & Under Caddie Program! 12 & Under Division Parents and Juniors, In the fall of 2017, the Philadelphia Junior Tour introduced the Caddie Program for the 12 & Under Division. This program has enhanced the enjoyment of PJT Tournaments for both parents and players. The program offers juniors in the 12 & Under Division assistance but ultimately allows players to make their own decisions and develop their golf skills independently. The goal of the PJT Caddie Program is to help enable the growth of a player, gain valuable tournament experience, and prepare juniors to move up to the 13-15 Division where caddies aren’t permitted. If you are interested in caddying for your junior golfer this year, please read the notes below. Who is Eligible? A caddie can be anyone over the age of 18. We recommend the caddie be the parent or close family member of the competitor. Caddies must wear a PJT caddie bib and agree to follow the PJT Caddie Code of Conduct. Although juniors can only have one caddy during the event, multiple people can caddie for the same junior throughout the season as long as they have all signed the Code of Conduct form.

A caddie must agree to and sign the PJT Caddie Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct was created to ensure the enjoyment of all players and create guidelines for the do’s and don’ts of caddying at a PJT event. Please click here to view the Caddie Code of Conduct. You may return the form by fax (215-646-3961) or by email to info@phillyjuniortour.com. Once we receive your form, we will notify you via email that you're able to register for the program. Registration Caddies must register on the Philadelphia Junior Tour website prior to an event. There will be no day of event registration for caddies. A caddie must first sign and return the Caddie Code of Conduct and purchase a caddie bib. The caddie bib will be given to you the first time you caddie at a PJT event. Only one bib must be purchased. Once at the event, the caddie should check in with the PJT staff on property.

We hope you will take advantage of this program and help aid your junior's golf experience. Make sure to sign up today! Please click here to visit the PJT Caddie Program webpage. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. -Philly Junior Tour Staff

Fitness Routine for More Accurate Putting

Golf Fitness Routine for More Accurate Putting You 3 - Putted How Many Times?! Published By: Fit Golf on March 30, 2020

How many times has poor putting cost you from shooting your desired score? How often do you say, “I was striking the ball great, but I 3-putted X-amount of times? Missing make-able putts is often the reason for inflated scores in what would otherwise feel like a great round of golf. Putting is not a simple science. Experts have written books and spent careers focused on teaching the technicalities of putting. From a Golf Fitness prospective, when comparing putting to the full swing, it appears obvious that the physical demands of putting are much less than the full swing, which is true. However, there are some simple body fixes that you can use in your fitness routine to improve your consistency of putting and scoring.

First: Test Yourself Before I continue, I would like you to do a quick Golf Movement test. Put the phone down or get up from the desk and get into your putting posture. This test is best done in front of a full length mirror for visual feedback, but if you do not have a mirror available, I want you to keep your eyes on your knees. Begin to swivel your shoulders about 10-20 degrees right and left continuously without allowing your lower body to move AT ALL! I will venture to say that a vast majority of you cannot rotate your upper body AND keep your lower body 100% stable. All great putters keep their lower bodies rock solid through the putting stroke. The inability to keep the lower body stable as the upper body swings the putter will lead to poor consistency on the greens and will cost you strokes. Tiger demonstrates what it looks like to remain stable in the lower body through the putt.

The key to effective movement in the putting stroke is lower body stability. Use these four exercises at home or in the gym to train the lower body to remain stable while putting. Open Books
