Afarmer has got a donkey. The donkey works all day. He carries big bags to the farmhouse.
After many years the donkey is now old. He isn’t strong and he can’t work. The farmer, his master, is angry.

So, one morning the donkey leaves the farmer to go to Bremen, the town of music. He wants to be a musician. He wants to play the guitar.

On the road the donkey sees a dog. The dog is very tired.
‘Hey, are you OK?’ asks the donkey. ‘I’m old and tired. I can’t run fast.
My master doesn’t want me,’ says the dog.
‘You can come with me!’ says the donkey.

‘Where are you going?’ asks the dog.
‘I’m going to Bremen to play music in a band. Come with me,’ says the donkey.
‘We can sing together. I can play the guitar and you can play the drum.’
The dog is happy and goes to Bremen with the donkey.

The dog and the donkey walk together. Soon they see a cat. The cat is sitting on the road. She’s very sad.
‘Why are you sad?’ asks the donkey.
‘Why are you sitting here?’ asks the dog.
‘I’m old,’ says the cat. ‘I’m tired and I can’t catch mice because I’m too slow. What can I do? Where can I go?’ says the cat.
‘Come with us to Bremen! You can be a town musician,’ says the donkey.
‘Yes, you can sing and play the violin,’ says the dog.
The cat wants to go to Bremen, too. The cat is happy. She’s got new friends. The three animals walk together.
