Present Simple, introduction of possessive adjectives.

We are in New York. Every morning people go to school, or to work. Their pets stay at home.

How do they pass the time? Sleep? Rest? No! They have a lot of fun! They play with things, talk to their animal friends in the area, and steal food from the fridge. Max is a lucky dog – his owner is kind, he lives in a nice apartment, and he likes having fun. But, one day... his owner, Katie, brings home another dog, Duke.

Everything changes! Max is jealous, and doesn’t want Duke there. The two dogs fight on the street and the police catch them. How can they get home? So begins this extraordinary adventure! If they want to get home to Katie, Max and Duke need to work together... and become friends!

e r a t a h t s t i b Ha good for the planet Our lifestyle has an effect on the environment. Our actions can help or hurt the planet. Here are five simple ‘green’ habits that can help the environment. Match each habit with its definition.

1 [ Separate and recycle waste.

2 [ Use a bike or public transport.

3 [ Eat organic foods.

4 [ Turn out the lights when they are not needed.

5 [ Plant trees and flowers.

A Organic foods are grown with respect for nature, and are good for the environment and healthy. When you have a snack at school or at home, choose organic food.

D Need to get to school? You can take a bike!

This way, you won’t pollute the environment, and you will stay in shape. If you don’t like cycling, take the bus or the underground.

E Lights and electrical items consume energy.

When you study or read, turn on only the lights that are necessary.

B Plants clean the air: they absorb pollution and produce oxygen. Don’t have a garden? You can plant flowers or buy houseplants.

C We must always separate plastic, paper, aluminium and other materials. Every material needs to go in the right bin, to be recycled in the future.

What cats do at night Hi, my name is Giacomo and this is my cat Pigo. He loves to wander at night. He is a very lively cat! Do you like cats? I like them a lot and I’ve studied them a bit. Here are the results of my research!

Cats love to sleep, including Pigo! According to researchers, cats sleep around 66% of the day. They are nocturnal animals and prefer to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. However, Pigo is active during the day too! He never stands still!

Boston, USA Founded in 1630, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the USA. It was named after the town of Boston in Lincolnshire, England, and has strong British origins.

Revolution!

Boston was once the largest town in British North America. Many important historical events took place in or near Boston, including many battles! The American Revolution started in the late 18th Century when the colonists rejected British rule. At the end of the Revolution, the United States of America was founded.

After the Revolution, Boston became one of the world’s richest ports. People traded rum, fish, salt, tobacco, and even slaves. Later, manufacturing became very important, especially clothing and leather-goods. Unfortunately, this didn’t last. Boston suffered economic problems as many factories closed and industry moved to other cities. Today, things are different – Boston is one of America’s most expensive cities! It is also an important university town, with 250,000 college students.

Walking is the best way to see Boston. The city centre is compact, with many narrow streets to explore. It takes around one hour to walk from one end of the centre to the other. Many Bostonians like to walk to work instead of taking public transport or driving! If you love history then make sure you walk ‘The Freedom Trail’, a route that leads you to 16 historic sites!

Recipe: Apple Crumble

Apple Crumble is a very popular dessert in English-speaking countries – and it’s very easy to make!

Ingredients For the topping: • 115g cold butter • 115g sugar • 175g plain flour

For the filling: • 4 large green apples • 2 Tbsp sugar • Pinch of ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Cut the peeled apples into large pieces and put in a medium baking dish. Sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon on top.

3 In a separate bowl, add flour and sugar together.

Cut the butter into small pieces and add to the bowl. ‘Rub’ the butter into the flour and sugar with your fingers.

4 Pour the topping evenly over the apples. Cook for 30 minutes until golden and serve with vanilla ice cream!
