Marc was born in Cervera, Spain, in 1993. When he was only four, he asked his parents for a motorcycle for Christmas. He was already in love with motorcycling! He started competing in motorcycle races in 1998 and has never stopped. He’s had a lot of success and many victories in his career. Now he’s a champion and everyone admires him!

His parents have always supported and encouraged him. His brother also loves motorcycles and they often train together. Even though he spends a lot of time away from home, Marc has never felt alone, because his team is like a second family.

When he is on the track, Marc is calm and not anxious. He has only been scared once: when he fell during a race, on the Mugello track. Fortunately he didn’t come to any harm!

Marc is a determined and daring man. He has made many sacrifices to become a champion: he follows a very strict diet, trains in the gym, and spends time away from home ... but it’s worth it!

Marc has had an idol ever since he was a child. Who?

Let’s build sandcastles

This month...

Children love making sandcastles, but many adults enter competitions for sand sculpture. These are often large and complex constructions that take many hours to build.

What do you need to make a sandcastle?

It’s easy – you only need two things: sand and water! You will also find a bucket*, shovel*, a fork (for making decorations) and a brush (to smooth surfaces) handy!

Where can you build one? You need a place where there’s lots of sand – preferably a sandy beach or a sandpit*.

The best sand is quite fine and slightly damp.

After school I take my binoculars and go for a walk outdoors. My neighbour Billy often comes with me. We like

birdwatching because it’s relaxing and we see lots of interesting things. The other day, for example, we saw wild geese flying in the sky. Billy also saw a hawk! When we get home, Billy and I write in a notebook the birds we’ve seen. In this area there are many different species, but my favourite is the robin. I often see one flying in the garden at my house. I like it because it’s small and funny ... but also because it’s the bird that symbolises England, my country!

Pink-sand beaches, blue sea, colourful houses, and warm friendly people – there are many reasons to visit the beautiful islands of Bermuda! Let’s find out more about this British Island territory in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Many people describe Bermuda as England in the tropics! Indeed, the islands provide a mix of American and British culture. British history on the island began in 1609, when English sailors* were shipwrecked* here. Today, the links to Britain are clear to see – especially in the capital, Hamilton. You

can see colonial* buildings all over the island. You can have a drink in a range of old-style British pubs. Or you can take a traditional English afternoon tea in many hotels.

Bermuda is in the North Atlantic, 1,046 km east of North Carolina, USA. It has many small islands, which are actually low volcanoes!

It has two main centres: Hamilton and St George, although there are many villages as well.

Bermuda’s beautiful pink sand comes from crushed* coral from the surrounding reef*. This gives it its special colour.
