Girl Friends Taylor Swift and Emma Stone Two famous American stars. Two best friends. Taylor Swift, American singer and actress who wrote her first song at eleven years old, and Emma Stone, American actress who was in the films The Amazing* Spider-Man and The Help.

They met some years ago at a party in

Hollywood. Emma listened to some of Taylor’s music and liked it very much.

She sent Taylor an email to say she liked her music.

After that they started to meet and they became good friends.

Now they are like sisters. They are both very famous but when they meet, they do normal* things together. They like shopping,

speaking about boys and just spending time together*. But sometimes it’s difficult as they’re often busy* making songs or films. They also like spending time with their other famous friends like Selena Gomez and Emma Watson.

Internet Friends Sergey Brin and Larry Page Do you have a computer? Do you use the Internet?

Then you must know Google. It’s one of the most visited websites in the world. But do you know how and when Google started?

Google was born in America in 1996.

Two friends called Larry Page and Sergey Brin were both at university in California. They had to do a computer project together and the website Google was born.

They left university to start their business. Their first

‘office’ was in a friend’s garage* and they worked together with another university friend.

Now Google has 70 offices in more than 40 countries. Larry and Sergey are rich and famous but they are also very good friends.

Other examples of Internet friends are: • Jerry Yang and David Filo started the website Yahoo in 1994 when they were at university together.

• Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCullum, and Chris Hughes started the social network Facebook in 2004 when they were at university together.

• Jan Koum and Ian Acton became friends when they both worked at Yahoo. Together they started the mobile app message service WhatsApp in 2009.

• Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim started the video website YouTube in 2005. They were friends at work.

In 2010 there was a film about Facebook. The name was The Social Network. The film won 3 Oscars. The American actor Jesse Eisenberg played the part of Mark Zuckerberg and the singer Justin Timberlake was also in the film.

Musical Friends One Direction Why have only one best friend when you can have four? Five friends – one band – that’s One Direction. It all started in 2010 when they were on the TV programme X-Factor. They were individual* singers but the judges* of the programme decided to put them together as

a group. One Direction was born!

They made their first record in 2011 called What Makes you Beautiful. Many people loved their song and they became stars immediately. Now they have four albums Up All Night (2011), Take me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014).
