EDITORIAL I am amazed every time I visit a center for vulnerable people or I talk to a survivor of abuse. What fascinates me the most is the strength with which they choose to move forward and the small steps they take each time, even if most of the time it is extremely difficult for them to get up and start over. They are truly a source of inspiration, full of enthusiasm and ready to change the world wherever they go.

Together with them and the "Impreuna prindem aripi" team, we learned about professions, how to apply for a job, about lifestyles, and volunteering, but also about kindness, character, creativity, courage and determination. We talked about how we build a beautiful world together and what impact a job has on us and those around us. We learned about mentoring and the presence of a mentor in everyone's life.

All these things can be found in the second issue of Aripi magazine. A magazine that made me understand from the first meeting that it will inspire dignity, respect, will be full of sensitivity and will give birth to new emotions for those who read it.

So we invite you to go through the magazine, and let it be an inspiration for what to do with your time, and for what you can become.

It's a question which many of us were asked at least once in our life either by a family member, a friend or someone from our community.

"I want to have courage!" said one of the girls I have spoken with recently. We all dreamed or we'still dreaming of what we want to become, what career we would choose.

Whether you want to be a psychologist, a cook, a photographer, a veterinarian, an airplane pilot, an architect, a masseur, a policeman, a gymnast, a painter or a singer, there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing your career.

Discover what you would like to do.

What are your passions, what do you think you're good at? Look around you and find role models for your career and personal life.

Stay connected with those people and learn from them how they came to have that job.

Learn and specialize in a field you are interested in.

If you have discovered that you really like to cook, maybe your future job is to become a cook and then you should look for specialized courses in this field.

Prepare a resume and send it to several companies that have vacancies in the field in which you trained.

Always be open to learn or discover new things.

I recommend that you read books on personal development and, together with your mentor, make a plan for your own development.

Keep believing in yourself.

MOTIVATION Motivation is an inner power that determines you to take action and get what you want. You can see it as the engine that fills you with energy and leads you to achieve what you set out to do.

When you think of a career or a job, motivation is the basis of your actions.

Let's see how motivation works!

This can be inspired by someone's example, a person around you who inspires you to choose a certain career. It could also be a movie or a book that impressed you a lot, enough to make you want a career or a similar job.

A: What job do you have?

A.M: I'm a social worker A: How did you choose this career? Why did you choose it?

A.M: Although at the beginning of high school I was more oriented towards math, following some exchanges of experience in France, where I saw how social services work there, I started to be interested in this field.

I got interested in how things are in Romania and I found out that social work was (in 1997) just beginning and I wanted to get involved.

I worked with different categories: children, families in need, the elderly.

I learned step by step and it became one of my main concerns.

A: What do you like most about this job?

A.M: One thing I like most is my assistance when the victims of abuse testify.

I know that my presence is helpful both for the victim, by making him/her feel safer, and for the police, because they can communicate more effective with the victims.

Another thing I like is that I can take initiative, I can contribute my ideas to

It's not static, it keeps me active, and forces me to come up with new ideas and projects.

A: How did you realize that this job suits you?

A.M: When I realized that the field I work in is so complex, I didn't give up, but I tried to find out more about it.

I did a lot of research, I tried to learn from every professional I met, and now I am convinced that it suits me.

I like to take on challenges and come up with new ideas.

A: Don't the stories you hear overwhelm you emotionally?

You need not to take things personally so you can help the person in front of you.

When I feel very stressed and burdened I try to think of beautiful moments from my life, it's how I deal with the hard situations and help those around me.

A.M: I feel burdened knowing so many stories and it takes some time to clear my mind.

What is a CV?

I'm sure you heard this word before, but what exactly is a CV? In English, a Curriculum Vitae, Latin for "course of life", often shortened to CV, is a short written summary of a person's career, qualifications, and education.

What a CV does is that it talks to the employers about you.

It is very important to write an amazing CV in order to get a job.

What is the purpose of a CV?

Here's how to write a CV

1. The first section of your CV should include your name, if you're a student or an employee and your contact details (e-mail address, phone number etc).

2. Add a recent photo of you. Wear modest clothing and take a front-facing headshot on a solid, light background.

3. Provide an overview of your education starting from your most recent academic degree obtained (reverse chronological order). Include the names of the institutions, thesis or dissertation topics and type of degree obtained.

4. List your previous jobs in chronological order with the most recent employment first.

A CV is very important when you're looking for a job.

You could have many qualities but if your CV isn't well written, you could lose a job opportunity and that's not what you want.

Remember, you communicate through your CV.

ATTENTION! What to put on your CV if you have no work experience. Foreign languages, seminars attended, volunteer experience, your soft skills (perseverance, creativity, etc) and your hard skills (technology skills, Microsoft Office skills, writing skills, etc), hobbies and if you have a driver license.

ADVICE!

Add a simple and recent photo of you. Wear some modest clothing and take a front-facing headshot on a solid, light background.

ATTENTION! Use a professional email address. Use the firstname.lastname@gmail.com type of email adress. Sending a resume with an unprofessional email address will disqualify you from job contention.

Why?

Because the cover letter gives other kind of information about you as the resume does.

Half a page is enough to make a good impression on your employer.

This means that in the cover letter you will talk about: • who you are and why did you choose to apply to that job; • how the previous experience is relevant for the job you are applying for; • what makes you fit for the position.

L: My name is Luiza Vasiliu, I'm 36 years old, I have one child, a boyfriend and two cats. I laugh and talk loudly and a lot, and I'm a very cheerful and exuberant.

I didn't know from the beginning what to do with my life, on the contrary.

First I prepared for drama school audition because I wanted to become an actress.

Luckily I failed.

Then I studied foreign languages, Czech and German,

but after two weeks I dropped out of college because the teachers acted like we were stupid. I came back home, in Iasi, embarrassed and ashamed of what I did but I started thinking of going to study in the US. My plans failed so next year I started studying at Faculty of Letters, in Cluj. I still think that was the best decision I made because back then I loved reading and writing, and the teachers were using every opportunity to encourage critical and creative thinking.

While I was in college, I started writing about movies, music, books and theatre for different magazines and that was the time I started think that I could be an editor at

JOURNALIST "Dilema Veche" magazine the best cultural magazine in Romania at that time. The dream came true and that was the beginning of my carreer as a journalist.

I can't see myself doing anything else, I love working for the common good and seeing that the information that my colleagues and I reveal help people see reality more clearly and makes criminals understand that the truth always comes to light, and with a little help from society, they won't get away with it.

G: What are you doing now?

L: I'm an editor-in-chief at "Scena 9" - an online magazine about culture, art,

and society. I'm the manager of a team of 4 journalists and dozens of other contributors, reporters, photographers and illustrators. During my free time I also work on personal projects such as medical experiments on children, art trafficking, and women's rights G: How do you deal with being a journalist?

L: Being a journalist can be very stressful if you do it right. Meaning, by having principles and being passionate about it. The principles and the passion can pressure you into being fully dedicated to an investigation and working long overnight hours.

Sometimes you're facing threats or intimidation (we were sued for publishing our work on revenge porn - for now, we won the lawsuit) but you must always stay firm.

It helps a lot having close friends and spending at least an hour a day doing something you love, not because you must but because you want to - that's what a therapist told me when I went to see her thinking I was depressed.

Just do something you love, whether it's reading, listening to music, going for a walk or cooking.

If you take care of yourself, you deal with stressful situations more easily.

Choose your clothes carefully

The way we dress tells a story about us.

It's very important to wear the proper clothes when going to an interview. Go for a pair of formal pants or a knee-length skirt along with a shirt or a blouse and a jacket.

The best colors to wear to an interview are the neutral ones but if you choose a bold color, make sure you choose only one bright-colored piece of clothing.

Wear comfortable shoes with a low or mid-height heel, flats or boots. Go for natural makeup and simple hairstyle.

The value of punctuality

Body language during interview

Knock on the door before entering the interview room and ask for permission (if you are not already invited in).

They say it's ok if you arrive late by 15 minutes or so. It's false!

Start the interview with a polite greeting and wait for the interviewer to invite you to seat yourself.

There's a big deal if you're 15 minutes late, the position may be filled already. Someone said that arriving early to an interview could be a sign for the employer that you really want that job.

Sit firmly and slide all the way back in the chair keeping both feet on the ground and your hands close to your body.

Plan to get to the interview 10 minutes early.

You always need to get ready before entering the office where the interview takes place. And by that I mean doing a recap of what you are planning to say, going to the bathroom or anything else.

"What can you tell me about yourself?"

What the HR specialist is looking for: In this part, the interlocutor tries to find out relevant information regarding your professional experience and rate your credibility.

How to answer: Before you answer, make sure you made clear how many details does the employer wants to hear.

If you need to talk around 3-5 min, you can briefly describe the professional experience, but if your presentation needs to be 15-20 min long, it is best to use as many details as you can through which you emphasize your qualities, skills and results.

In order to easily answer this question, I recommend that you write down all the information and read them several times.

Behavior you should avoid: • Don't talk more than your employer wants to.

• Don't get into useless details such as "I quit my last job because me and my boss weren't getting along".

There's a lot of talking on volunteering, but not everyone knows the perks of being a volunteer.

In Romania, volunteering is a voluntary act of an individual or group freely giving time and labour for community service.

You might not get paid for it, but volunteering has its surprising benefits, opportunities for personal and professional development and at the same time you contribute to societal well-being.

Research on how the human mind works have shown that volunteering helps us fight depression, anxiety and loneliness and is a very important factor for our well-being.

In other words, when you're helping others, you not only give your time and energy, but you are actually helping yourself too.

Every human being needs to have a meaning in life and to belong to a community, regardless of his past or life context.

Volunteering give us the chance of helping others and feeling useful.

There's a saying that goes "Don't judge a book by its covers!". Just like that, a new saying could sound like this: "Don't judge news on Facebook by its title. Read it entirely!"

Why do we follow certain influencers?

If we ask ourselves this question on a regular basis, we will stop following certain people on social media that don't help us grow, but rather make us feel inferior, unhappy, discontent of the life we have, and deprived by the "beauty" so superficial and unnatural expressed.

Don't believe everything you search on Google! The best part of Google is that we can search and find out almost anything, we can learn to cook, to take photos, to combine colors in fashion, we can also search every city and country on Google Maps etc.

Even so, when it comes to news, events (as we said earlier) or even historical facts, it is important to get information from multiple sources before consider the news true.

And when it comes to history, don't forget about the books and documentaries. Google knows a lot, but it can't replace a good book.

It is very important to check the facts using credible sources before considering it true, especially if there are headlines designed to shock and generate shares.

Question the veracity of the news if it includes a multitude of grammatical errors or the information reported by the media is unclear or incomplete.

Why it is important to check the facts and make sure the information we get are real?

Because information is power. The more accurate the information we have, the more powerful and anchored we are in reality. People can steal our material things but they can never steal our knowledge, only if we let them.

But if you look carefully you will surely find the right people to follow, people of strong convictions, who inspire you to be kind, patient, thankful, influencers who use their platform to inspire social change.

As beautiful the Instagram is and as beautiful the artistic pictures are, it is sad that millions of people appreciate and promote vulgarity, instead of focusing and encouraging decency.

Sometimes it is better to stand out from the crowd and stick to decency.

We become like the people we follow and we hang out with, the books we read, and the music we listen to.

Let's choose wisely in what we invest our time, who do we believe in and who we allow to influence our lives.

My dear, It's me again, you again, us again. The years may have passed and you may have experienced a lot of things but I know that deep down you haven' t changed, you'r e still cheerful and full of hope. I'm writing you today, a random day in 2021, the thoughts and desires that I would like you to remember in ten years from now.

First of all, thank you for protecting me all these years. For staying healthy and for taking care of your body, because of him we get to see the world and experience so many beautiful moments. We often forget to thank our body for everything he does for us: he helps us talk, sing, hug and dance. I am so glad you realized how important it is to take care of him so that you could have a good life. Thank you for eating healthy, for exercising, for loving your body, for showing him gratitude and for treating him respectfully.

I don' t know what will you be doing in ten years, but I already admire your courage. Childhood and adolescence are periods of life when almost everything seems impossible to us, but when we also dare to dream and are free to hope. E ven though life was not alwasy easy and growing up made you down to earth, I congratulate you for finding the courage to keep fighting for your dreams! And I am so proud that you became wiser and realized that the best person to show you love, patience and who gives chances is you.

E ven though I'm still very young, I already know that I want to become a woman happy with her life, but for this I need to take life step by step.

Each person is special in his own way and can be useful to others in a unique way. I wish of having a job that pays well and where I can find the fulfillment we all long for. Sometimes life is very complicated and it may seem easier to let ourselves be carried away but thank you for finding wise people who were always there to help you and also for not giving up on school. Step 1: Paint the popsicle sticks in any colour you want.

To create a gradient effect as shown in the first picture, add a bit of white to achieve the gradation.

Step 2: Glue four sticks into 2 equal V’s.

Step 3: Add sticks to the bottom, making sure the placement is even on both sides.
