It is the uncontested world leader in robotics research.

Created in 1979, The Robotics Institute was the first university robotics department founded in the nation. It is also the first institution in the world to grant a PhD in Robotics, and one of only three to do so today.

Currently The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University represents more than 500 scientists at the largest university robotics program in the world, developing the leading edge of robotics technology.

The world comes to NREC for advanced robotic commercialization. Here, theoretical concepts and laboratory technologies are converted into functional, reliable and cost-effective robotics systems for use in a variety of environments.

NREC is the technology transfer organization for The Robotics Institute and the center that designs, develops and tests robotic systems and vehicles for industrial and government clients.
