After two years in a pandemic we are all eager to get out of the house and explore all that our province has to offer, and there is no better place to do that safely this summer than in Elgin County. This Visitor’s Guide is a valuable resource that will help you navigate your time in our communities. Elgin is located in the heart of southwestern Ontario, and spans over 100km of pristine Lake Erie shoreline. Rolling country landscapes and quaint towns and villages make Elgin an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Space to Spoon Space to Spoon is a hands-on experience, with stunning graphics and interactive elements for visitors of all ages. The exhibit showcases the technology that transforms satellite images into agricultural applications in a way that encourages informal learning among audiences. Developed by Ingenium, Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, in partnership with the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum and the Canadian Space Agency.

Canada’s Oldest Annual Picnic The summer exhibit will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Baker Family Re-union and Picnic, the oldest of the many family reunions that were once popular in Elgin County. A complementary exhibit on the 19th century picnic tradition will illustrate the many union, club, fraternal, school, and church picnics that were often held at the lake ports. These events, with their ancillary trains, boats, and bands, constituted major social occasions. SEPTEMBER 17 - JANUARY 7, 2023

Visitors can scramble their own messages using a cipher wheel, tackle puzzles, test their cyber smarts to find out how safe their personal information is online, and see how an authentic Enigma cipher machine works by sending a message and watching how Enigma creates a new message. Developed by Ingenium, Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation in partnership with the Communications Security Establishment.
