Sample Summer Itinerary

SIX DAYS / FIVE NIGHTS

This sample itinerary includes both complimentary experiences and optional activities available for an additional fee. Most of the activities and adventures at Sopris House are on your own, but we are happy to help plan and coordinate logistics.

Welcome

Sopris House is Eleven’s private summer basecamp in Crested Butte—just a short walk from the heart of town. After days spent fishing gold-medal waters, biking alpine trails, or hiking into the high country, return to your own private saloon, soak in the outdoor copper hot tub, or spin a track on the jukebox. With space for families or groups, and easy access to everything Crested Butte offers, it’s the perfect place to settle in for summer.

Afternoon

◆ Arrive, get settled in, take a tour of the lodge

◆ Enjoy a cold beer at the self-serve bar— and put your favorite song on the jukebox

◆ Head into town for a French-inspired dinner in a tiny cabin tucked into an alleyway

Go Lift-Accessed Mountain Biking

Morning

◆ Start the day with a morning yoga class

◆ Fuel up with a chef-prepared breakfast featuring local ingredients

◆ Ride lift-accessed singletrack on Mount Crested Butte, which has 30 miles of trails

Afternoon

◆ Break for lunch at a local mountainside cafe

◆ Wander around town on your own to shop downtown Crested Butte’s eccentric art galleries, bookshops, and markets

Evening

◆ Relax in the outdoor hot tub back at the lodge

◆ Enjoy après in the lodge’s living patio

◆ Show up for your reservation at Breadery for a dinner of sourdough flatbreads and fresh salads

Hike Through Wildflower Meadows

Morning

◆ Dine on a chef-made breakfast featuring the daily special: Strawberry Rhubarb Pancakes

◆ Hike to a waterfall or alpine lake on one of the Elk Mountain Range’s many trails, passing through fields full of wildflowers like mule’s ears and glacier lilies

Afternoon

◆ Stop for a trailside lunch along the way

◆ Grab a paddleboard and head to one of the area’s many lakes or reservoirs for a serene paddle and post-hike dunk in the lake

Evening

◆ Share stories from the day over après at Sopris House

◆ Grab a late dinner and listen to a live band with VIP access at Public House, a local’s favorite music venue and restaurant famous for its elk chili

Sopris

Climb Mount Crested Butte

Morning

◆ Begin your day with a light breakfast made to order

◆ Get a taste of alpine climbing by ascending Guide’s Ridge, a technical scramble to the top of Mount Crested Butte

◆ Enjoy a sandwich from the top, while taking in the view of town and the surrounding valley

Afternoon

◆ Go for a mellow afternoon river float down the Gunnison River, where you can fish or just enjoy the rapids

Evening

◆ Settle in with a good book and a drink after a day out on the trails

◆ Read in the lodge’s library over happy hour snacks

◆ Sip craft cocktails and enjoy a gourmet tapas dinner at the outdoor patio at the Dogwood, a cocktail bar housed in an old miner’s cabin

Fish the Area’s Famous Rivers

Morning

◆ Rise to a chef-made breakfast featuring the day’s specialty: corned beef hash

◆ Depart for a guided fly-fishing outing on the Gunnison or Taylor River, both of which are known as an angler’s haven and world renowned for brown trout

Afternoon

◆ Refuel with a riverside picnic lunch

◆ Spend the afternoon lounging lakeside and paddleboarding at our Lake Irwin summertime outpost, located a short drive from the lodge

◆ Head back to Sopris House

Evening

◆ Refresh from the day in the lodge’s hot tub

◆ Gather for a chef-prepared dinner at the lodge, using locally sourced ingredients

◆ Watch a movie in the lodge’s media room

Mountain Biking

Considered the birthplace of mountain biking, the Gunnison Valley is home to an impressive variety of single track and has been drawing never-evers and diehards for decades. Head out with our expert guides for an epic ride tailored to your level.

Hiking

Explore the Gunnison Valley’s world-class hiking trails with our seasoned guides. Whether you want to scout for wildlife in meadows blanketed in wildflowers, ascend through aspen forests, or traverse a steep alpine ridge, all levels are welcome.

Guide’s Ridge Mountaineering

A local favorite, the Guides Ridge ascent is a ropesupported climb that follows an 800-foot ridge to Mount Crested Butte’s 12,162-foot summit. A stellar introduction to technical alpine ascents, this popular climb is suitable for adventurous families and seasoned climbers alike.

Rock Climbing

From top roping local crags to navigating advanced routes, the variety in the Gunnison Valley is expansive and our local guides know all the best spots. No matter your experience level, you’ll get your fill of climbing in a safe yet exciting setting.

Standup Paddleboarding

From high-alpine lakes to large reservoirs, the valley offers a range of beautiful SUPing destinations. Our guides will personalize your adventure and give you insider tips to improve your balancing technique and get the most out of your time on the water.

Whitewater Rafting

With plenty of variety, highly trained guides, and gorgeous scenery at every turn, rafting is a must. The family-friendly Gunnison River has countless options for newer paddlers, while the Taylor River has quicker-moving rapids for those seeking a thrill.

Horseback Riding

Let experienced wranglers show you some of Colorado’s most scenic trails on horseback. Wind through the wildflowers and take in incredible views from the saddle on this memorable adventure.

Fly Fishing

The Gunnison Valley is world renowned for its trout fishing, and our guides know all the secret spots. You’ll wade into the East River, Taylor River, or two miles of exclusive access on Tomichi Creek to catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Or opt for a float trip down the Gold Medal waters of the Upper Gunnison.

Wellness Offerings

At Sopris House, wellness is tailored to meet you where you are—whether that’s recovery after a day in the mountains or a quiet moment of self-care. Choose from a curated selection of massage therapies, yoga sessions adapted to your needs, and IV hydration designed to help you acclimate to altitude or bounce back from adventure. Our wellness therapist is available on call for flexible, on-the-spot treatments, so you can relax on your schedule.

Lake Irwin

Be transported to Eleven’s Lake Irwin outpost for a day of waterfront activities at a high elevation lake just outside of Crested Butte with views of the Ruby Mountain Range. You’ll spend the day swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, and relaxing on the beach, with options for hiking on lakeside trails. Our lakefront cabin comes stocked with beach toys, games, and refreshments. This is available for up to 12 guests and includes transportation to and from Lake Irwin.
