Tom Salzer is an accomplished Architect, Project Leader, and Planner with a wealth of experience in healthcare, clinical, and wellness design. A previous firm owner, Tom brings exceptional vision and spirit to each project. Tom has established himself as a leader in YMCA facility design, having designed nine new YMCA facilities totaling $280 million and 700,000 square feet across Indiana, as well as additions and renovations in many more. Tom has also designed numerous medical facilities, including the new patient tower and renovations and additions for Goshen Health, renovations, additions, and new construction for DeKalb Health, and the Ronald McDonald House of Northeast Indiana’s new NICU family room. With his experience, skill, and out-of-the-box thinking, Tom is a results-driven leader who delivers exemplary projects that align with the vision and goals of his clients.

YMCA FACILITY MIAMI COUNTY FAMILY YMCA

LOCATION Peru, Indiana SCOPE 65,000 SF / New Construction CONSTRUCTION COST $14,779,640 COMPLETION February 2022

It took Miami County, Indiana, a decade to get a new YMCA facility after it first began planning for it, but after a prolonged fundraising effort and pandemic-related construction delays, it was worth the wait.

The new Miami County Family YMCA features an indoor pool with a splashpad and hot tub, a 9,000 square foot hardwood gymnasium with 2 courts and 6 basketball rims, a large, openconcept and fully equipped weight room, 8 family locker rooms, several group exercise rooms, a wellness center and a small chapel. A 1/10-mile walking/running track loops around most of the facility on the second level.

Youth lunches and subsidized childcare are also available to the community of Peru and greater Miami County at the new facility, as well as public transportation.

The site of the new YMCA was a former railroad service yard. The local government, along with the county’s economic development authority, absorbed the cost to remove the concrete foundations and other obstructions to allow the site to be redeveloped.

YMCA FACILITY MUNCIE YMCA

LOCATION Muncie, Indiana SCOPE 73,000 SF / New Construction CONSTRUCTION COST $31,000,000 COMPLETION January 2025
