The UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, a $68 million, 114,000 square-foot building, opened in 2019. By Bill Cieslewicz – Managing editor, Cincinnati Business Courier A two-year-old building on University of Cincinati’s campus has been honored again for its design. UC’s Gardner Neuroscience Institute was awarded a gold Touchstone Award for Evidence Based Design and Research, the latest in a slew of honors received by the facility, which opened in 2019 and is home to UC Health. The institute, which is a partnership between UC Health and the UC College of Medicine and sits at the edge of campus, was designed to transform complex care for neurologic patients. The outpatient clinical care building features a geometric, textured white mesh scrim exterior, which allows for an abundance of natural light and provides better energy efficiency. “The team wanted a clean interior design with open spaces and a lot of natural light, because that type of environment promotes healing and is easier to navigate, particularly for people struggling with neurological disorders or injuries,” Daric Hess, healthcare practice director at
