WSBA EMERGING LEADER AWARD SHARON DELAY, GO HR Sharon Delay is a creative problem solver. She has owned her own business since 2002 and is a wealth of knowledge in the HR industry. Sharon holds an MBA and undergraduate degrees in Human Resources, Education, and Communication. She holds her SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources), her SHRM-SCP (SHRM Senior Certified Professional), and her Certified Professional Résumé Writer and Certified Professional Career Coach certifications, and is also Health & Accident licensed. She honed her professional career in the direct sales, higher education, and communication industries. Sharon has held board and committee chair positions with NAWBO Columbus, the Women’s Small Business Accelerator, HRACO, and the Central Ohio chapter of the International Coach Federation. She was nominated for NAWBO Columbus 2015

Member of the Year and 2016 Visionary, and was awarded The 2015 Champion Award from NAWBO Columbus. The Champion Award recognizes one outstanding person who advocates for the growth and success of women in business. In addition to consulting, and authoring and presenting numerous training courses, Sharon is the author of Career Boot Camp, a self-contained full career transition program, and co-author of E-Cruiting: Using social networking to build your recruiting muscle, not bust your recruiting budget, and co-authored The Inspired and The Determined, two workbooks used for start-up and scale-up business training. Please help us in congratulating Sharon on this well-deserved honor.

ELEANOR ALVAREZ THE GANZHORN SUITES & LEADERSTAT, LLC The world is full of individuals that contribute to our community in quiet and humble ways. In Central Ohio, Eleanor Alvarez is a visionary who has dedicated nearly 40 years to her community.

As Founder & President of The Ganzhorn Suites and LeaderStat, LLC, she is a true visionary and trailblazer, providing management experience in the post-acute and senior living fields. Areas of expertise include skilled nursing, assisted living operations, facility analysis and acquisitions, start-ups and turn-arounds. During her years working for national corporations, Eleanor was responsible for the operational management of more than 25 facilities. She opened skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, developed numerous high acuity specialty units and stabilized troubled centers. She gained entrepreneurial experience when she opened LeaderStat 20 years ago, a firm providing interim management, recruiting and consulting, which grew from a small startup into one of the top healthcare recruiting and consulting firms in the country. For decades, Eleanor believed there had to

In 2016, Eleanor launched The Ganzhorn Suites, a specialized memory care center, in Powell, Ohio. A second center is in development in Avon, Ohio. Named for her grandmother, The Ganzhorn Suites promotes a resident-centered, evidence-based approach in caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The center offers a secure, yet stimulating environment for this vulnerable population by incorporating advanced safety and monitoring technologies and a beautiful, inviting, purpose-built design. Certified staff are hand-picked for their commitment to this population, and residents are engaged in researched-based programming developed by Eleanor herself. The programs and services offered are designed to nurture the mind, body and spirit, so that residents can live fully – no matter where they may be in their own personal journeys.

NAWBO COLUMBUS VISIONARY AWARD

DENISE DOCZY-DELONG SINGLETON CONSTRUCTION, LLC Denise Doczy-Delong’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2006. Her mother, Nancy Doczy, had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and needed her help with the company she co-founded in 1995 with Chris Singleton. Denise left behind a successful career in supply chain management to become the first employee as Managing Director of Singleton Construction. Founded in 1995, Singleton Construction has grown into a leading Commercial Construction General Contractor focused on transforming retail spaces. Since the days when Walmart was the sole customer, Denise and her team have significantly expanded Singleton's customer base and geographic footprint. Today the company is headquartered in Canal Winchester, Ohio and operates in 39 states. Singleton is excited about the opportunities in the construction industry to help retailers physically transform their brands. Denise demonstrates tremendous care and vision for her team and community. Her unique approach to developing talent speaks to her visionary approach. She is constantly working to learn and improve as a leader, fostering a culture of learning across the company. There are countless examples in

the business of personal growth and career development that were built on Denise’s vision for what her people can become, and her encouragement and support in making that vision a reality. The same is true for her community, as she has served as a mentor for local school children providing a unique perspective on breaking stereotypes as a successful woman in a male-dominated industry helping young girls see a different vision for their future. Singleton consistently lives their vision of creating a brighter world in their community through their giving efforts to local organizations and schools. Colleagues describe her as humble, caring and generous. Denise is an active member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Columbus, Retail Contractors Association, Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, where she serves on the Small Business Council. This past year Denise was selected to participate in a year-long mentorship program with the Maria Sharapova Women's Entrepreneur Program and the National Association of Women Business Owners.

PAST NAWBO VISIONARY HONOREES In 2019, NAWBO Columbus is celebrating the 21st year of Visionary women. This year the Visionary Award honors two of central Ohio’s women business owners who have achieved success with their business while making notable contributions to their community, industry and to initiatives for other women in business. Nominated by their peers, the nominees and the selection process remain confidential until the finalists are announced in early May.

NAWBO Columbus hosts this coveted award as a prestigious way to recognize and showcase the amazing women who not only own and operate businesses that are vital to Ohio’s economy, but also find time and resources to identify needs and drive social change. We know what it takes to succeed, so we have created programming that meets the individual needs of women who are entrepreneurs. APPLY NOW FOR FALL PROGRAMS!

THE INSPIRED ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM: A 20-week intensive

accelerator for women in the early stages of their business. This small cohort meets every other Saturday for four hours, and each entrepreneur builds a robust business plan, conducts market research, creates their sales pipeline and pricing structure, develops their elevator pitch, and graduates upon presentation of their three-minute sales pitch to a panel of judges. Our next cohort starts in October.

POWER CIRCLES: A facilitated peer network group for women who have been in business at least one year. This group of entrepreneurs meet monthly to help each other solve business problems quickly and efficiently, increase each otherâ€™s entrepreneurial savvy, and decrease the sense of isolation that many early to mid-stage business owners have had. The next Circles start in September!

MENTOR MATCH: This is for women entrepreneurs who have been in business at

least 3 years and are looking to achieve specific business goals through a mentor. WSBA Board Members interview each mentee to assess their goals and personality, and then hand-match them with a successful business leader in our community who has achieved similar goals. Matches are for six to twelve months and begin based on the schedule of the mentee and mentor. Become a mentee or a mentor today!

Christie Angel serves as the Chief Executive Officer of YWCA Columbus, one of the community’s most respected organizations dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. Christie joined YWCA Columbus in 2017 after working many years in the private and public sectors of Columbus. It is her love of Columbus and desire to create environments for people to thrive in—those in the community and YWCA staff—that is the driving force behind her leading YWCA Columbus. Prior to joining YWCA Columbus, Angel was principal of government relations and public affairs for Calfee Strategic Solutions. She provided counsel and advisory services to businesses and non-profit organizations on local government, business strategies, and community relations matters. Previously, Christie was deputy chief of staff and external affairs and services director to former Columbus Mayor Michel B. Cole-

man. Christie was a government affairs principal for a telecommunications company, a boutique government relations firm and legislative aide to Coleman when he served on Columbus City Council. Cheryl Krueger is the Founder and former-President and Chief Executive Officer of Cheryl & Co., a cookie, gourmet dessert, and gift basket retailer. She started the company in 1981 in Columbus Ohio with a single cookie store that grew into a $50 million corporation. In March 2005, Cheryl & Co. was sold to 1-800 Flowers with Cheryl remaining as its CEO until March 2009 when she retired. She founded KRUEGER+Co. Consulting, Inc in 2009 and serves as its CEO. Its primary focus is to help companies to develop creative marketing and sales strategies as well as evaluate and identify opportunities in product development pipelines, operations, logistics and improve financial performance.

From 1992-2013, Cheryl served as a Board member for Bob Evans Farms Inc., and was Chairperson of their Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. In 2012, Cheryl was appointed to The Ohio State University Board of Trustees. In 2016, Cheryl was asked to serve on the Heartland Bank Board of Directors.

After joining Cheryl & Co. full time in 1986, she repositioned the company to include not only retail stores, but also developed a business gift division and became the first cookie company in the United States to start a catalog division in 1989. In 1992, Cheryl & Co. created a foodservice division which started selling to the airlines. The internet, which is the largest and fastest growing division, was launched in 1997.

She also served on the Board of The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute Foundation as its Past President, was recently appointed to serve on The Ohio State University Medical Center Board. She is a member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO) and an Honorary Board Member for the Seal of Ohio Girl Scout Council. Her past Board involvement includes the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, the Federal Reserve Board for District 4, The OSU 4-H Foundation Board, and The OSU Human Ecology Advisory Board. She is extremely proud of the countless non-profit partnership she has helped inspire including raising over $300,000 for the Tressel Family Fund, Cookies for A’s project, CHIPS Program – recognized by the state of Ohio as an outstanding example of private business partnering with public schools, student scholarship programs, military support programs, establishing relationships with the area food banks, and her trips to Appalachia each year with her church to help families in need.
