We love this opportunity to come together each year and celebrate all we have accomplished as an organization thanks to your generous support. As we come up on our 60th anniversary in May, there is so much to be grateful for—our world-class facilities, our top-flight team of caring professionals and volunteers, and our passionate base of supporters who make it all possible. With your help, we’ve saved more than 100,000 lives. And each day that number grows larger. We also have a lot to look forward to. I hope you had a chance to take a quick look at our new Paige Conery Mobile Veterinary Clinic parked outside tonight. The next time you are in North Naples, take a minute to stop by the von Arx Adoption Center at the Greentree Center at Airport-Pulling and Immokalee Roads. And by this time next year, we will be able to show you around our new state-of-the-art dog intake and animal boarding facility on our Oakes Campus. All of this is possible thanks to you and the generous community members who came before you. Sadly, we lost one of our foundational leaders this year with the passing of Lori Keller Stuber. Lori was more than a cofounder. She was a thread that connected Humane Society Naples’ beginnings to its present. She was instrumental in helping build our original shelter and in convincing our leadership to move to communal housing models when we renovated our current building 10 years ago. We had hoped to see her here tonight, but we know she is with us in spirit, encouraging us to keep up the important work for the animals who are in desperate need. Best wishes,

ABC7 Main Anchor at Waterman Broadcasting Corp Krista Fogelsong has a special place in her heart for animals and loves working with area shelters trying to get pets adopted. Krista has two rescue dogs Cabo and Tuco. Krista has been supporting Humane Society Naples for many years in a variety of ways. She most recently participated as a local star dancer in the inaugural event Dancing with the Local Stars-Naples. Last year Humane Society Naples honored Krista with the Animal Advocate Award.

In Memoriam Lori Keller Stuber (1930-2019) helped lay the foundation for animal welfare in Collier County by cofounding Humane Society Naples in 1960. Since then, the organization that she and her fellow advocates started in a small building at the edge of the Naples Airport has grown into one of the most respected animal welfare groups in Florida, with more than 100,000 lives saved.

HONORARY CO-CHAIRS Jay & Patty Baker Patty and Jay Baker believe very strongly in the great work of Humane Society Naples. They are also strong supporters of other Naples-area causes and organizations. Their lifetime of charitable work led them to be inducted into the Ellis Island Society. Patty is a Tony-winning Broadway producer and serves on the board of Gulfshore Playhouse, the Public Theater, Bay Street Theater, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Hunter College, where she is in the school’s Hall of Fame. She was recently honored at the United Nations by the Women’s Entrepreneurial Development Organization, where she spoke about philanthropy. She was also a judge in HSN’s Dancing with the Local Stars fundraiser. After a long career, ending as President of Kohl’s, Jay started The Baker Retailing Center at the Wharton School of Business where he also received the prestigious Dean’s Medal. He serves on the boards of Artis-Naples, NCH, Naples Senior Center and chairs the boards of The Baker Museum and The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. They have 3 kids: Stephanie, Stephen, and Kizzie.

Harmon & Joanne Brown Joanne and Harmon Brown met in Telluride, Colorado where he had a restaurant. They were both very involved in the community. Joanne chaired the Telluride Foundation for six years and Harmon served on the board. They were also supporters of the Second Chance Humane Society. They currently support the Avalanche Dogs which are dogs who rescue people on the mountain. Since 2006, they have split their time between Naples and Napa Valley. In Napa, they started a winery named Aril, producing several wines including Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. They were active in an animal rescue organization named Jameson Ranch which rescues all sorts of animals, large and small. Joanne is on the Sustaining Leadership Council for the Botanical Gardens and on the board of the Port Royal Club as well as their Scholarship Committee. They are supporters of Golden PAWS Assistance Dogs, which trains service dogs. They have also supported Humane Society Naples since they have been coming to Naples.

HONORARY CO-CHAIRS Jennifer Conery Jennifer is a long-time supporter of Humane Society Naples and a life-long animal lover. Outside of her children and grandchildren, animals are her passion. She’s recently fell madly in love with a 15-year-old dog who had been in the shelter for more than a year, giving Scarlett the spoiled life she richly deserves. Jennifer’s beloved boxer, Paige, inspired much of her generosity to HSN, including the donation of funds to purchase a mobile veterinary clinic that will serve less fortunate animals throughout our community.

Richard & Amy D’Amico Richard D’Amico and Amy Brazil-D’Amico are restaurateurs, entrepreneurs and philanthropists who support numerous organizations in Southwest Florida including Humane Society Naples. Richard and his partners own a restaurant group that includes restaurants in Naples and Minneapolis, including Campiello and The Continental. Amy began painting portraits of dogs in 2000 and quickly had collections for sale in Neiman Marcus and Target. Her signature paw print design adorns the front façade of HSN’s main shelter. Each year they host the Bow Wow Brunch to raise funds and awareness for HSN’s work in the community.

Al & Teresa Geiss Teresa and Al Geiss spent more than 40 years in generic pharmaceutical sales and distribution, most recently as the CEO and Executive Vice President, respectively, of Geiss, Destin & Dunn, before selling the company in 2016. Teresa and Al came to one of the first Humane Society Naples galas shortly after moving to Naples in 2002 and have been dedicated supporters of the organization ever since, frequently donating live auction items to help raise funds.

Judy LeDoux “I am a Midwest girl, born and raised. Animals were my friends and playmates all my life. Therefore, why not help them find forever homes. Humane Society Naples does that for every animal that comes to their door. You can’t beat that, and that is why I am happy and proud to help HSN keep doing a great job. Go HSN!”

Pat Murphy “I grew up in the Washington, D.C. area but received my education in Boston: a BA in business from Boston University and an MBA from Babson College. I worked for a Boston investment management firm, first as the head of stock trading operations, and later as an investment analyst. My love of animals is lifelong, and while I donated to my favorite animal welfare charities, long hours on the job, travel, and continuing education prevented me from working hands-on with shelter animals. Upon retirement and a move to Naples, I sought to volunteer at an organization which highly values the lives of the animals in its care, seeks out appropriate homes, and offers high quality shelter care for the animals for as long as necessary. My career as an HSN volunteer spans 20 years, eleven (2006-2017) of those as a board member.”

Alan & Donna Schneider Alan and Donna Schneider retired to Naples in 2008 after long careers in law and health care, respectively. Alan served as Managing Director and General Counsel of a large international shipping conglomerate with offices in various European and U.S. cities, specializing in maritime law, mergers, acquisitions and international taxation. Donna worked as a registered nurse for approximately 40 years substantially with acute care patients at major metropolitan health facilities. Alan’s love of dogs began at a young age when he rescued dogs off the streets as a child growing up in the Bronx. They are currently the parents of Humane Society Naples alumni Browny, which was not only Alan’s nickname as a child, but Browny came into the shelter on Alan’s birthday.

HONORARY CO-CHAIRS Dolph & Sharon von Arx Sharon & Dolph established full time residence in Naples in 1992, via Connecticut and North Carolina. Since arriving in Naples they have been involved with numerous charitable organizations. Additionally, they have provided leadership for Naples Community Hospital, Youth Haven, Shelter for Abused Women and Children, Naples Philharmonic (Artis-Naples), The Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the Humane Society Naples. They were drawn to the Conservancy and Humane Society Naples by their love of animals and their desire to help in some way. They were the lead donor at the Conservancy for the Wildlife Rehab Hospital and received the Eagle Award, the highest award given annually. They have been supporters of Humane Society Naples for about twenty years. Their present family includes two kitties adopted from Humane Society Naples. For Sharon and Dolph, sad eyes, furry wagging tails, and lots of sloppy kisses always wins their hearts. They are lucky and proud to have received HSN’s Walker Turken Award in 2011 and 2018.

John & Carol Walter John and Carol Walter are philanthropists active in the arts, child welfare, environmental protection and, of course, with animal welfare in Naples and Chicago. John is the Chairman of Ashlin Management Company. He is the retired president and COO of AT&T Corporation and the retired Chairman and CEO of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company. He has served on the boards of numerous public companies. He serves as a trustee for the Steppenwolf Theater, Northwestern University and the Naples Children & Education Foundation as well as a board member for the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and ecoAmerica. Carol serves on the board of The Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs of Chicago, The Field Museum, The Joffrey Ballet and the Northwestern Women’s Board of Northwestern. Since moving to Naples five years ago, Carol has joined the Sustaining Leadership Council at The Naples Botanical Garden and is a trustee of the Naples Children & Education. They have two daughters and three grandchildren who reside in Chicago.

FUND-A-NEED For nearly 60 years, Humane Society Naples has been synonymous with rescuing, sheltering and adopting out homeless pets. Over time, we’ve evolved into an organization that does so much more for animals and their families. More and more of our work takes place outside of the shelter, trying to divert animals from the system or getting them ready to be on the adoption floor. These efforts happen behind the scenes and out of the spotlight. But they require a significant investment in resources. They pay off financially for the organization, but more importantly by sparing more animals the emotional toll of being institutionalized in the shelter for even a day longer than necessary. These efforts include: Providing at-cost and no-cost medical care to animals whose families are in need. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, Humane Society Naples provides nearly $100,000 in care each year to help keep animals in loving homes instead of being surrendered. This year, thanks to a special one-time gift, we were able to expand our behavioral training staff by two full-time team members. This allows us to get behaviorally challenged animals ready for adoption more quickly and provide training guidance to families who are considering surrendering an animal who is experiencing behavior issues. Sometimes pet owners hit a rough patch financially or personally. They might need some food or litter to carry them through until their next paycheck or a safe space for their animal to stay while they work through a challenge like addiction or domestic violence. Our food pantry and Operation Rescue programs provide a safety net that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the county. For animals who aren’t yet old enough or healthy enough for adoption, our foster program provides home-based care without the stress of the shelter environment. Thanks to dedicated staff and volunteers we get the animals ready for adoption in comfort and speed up their journey to a forever home. By raising your paddle tonight, you’ll be helping support these programs and many more that make our community a better place for animals and people. These are every bit as vital as our rescue and adoption efforts at ensuring the highest quality animal welfare.

In November 2019, Humane Society Naples launched a new event Dancing with the Local Stars-Naples. Ten local celebrities paired with ten local professional dancers to compete for the mirror ball trophy and bragging rights. The inaugural event raised over $330,000 for Humane Society Naples.
