*NOTE: For the 2018 audit year, Humane Society Naples engaged a new auditing firm, Rogers Wood Hill Starman & Gustason, who determined prior audits erred in accounting for certain types of estates and pledges as assets. Therefore, we have removed those funds from our audited financial statements, accounting for an on-paper loss of approximately $1.2 million, although the pledges remain outstanding and for the benefit of our organization. Additionally, the Blair Foundation interest matured in 2018 and was received by the organization.

Pet Tales We adopted Abby, an 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix, in April earlier this year. She has been so wonderful. She is the perfect little cuddler and the most entertaining girl; she makes us laugh a lot.

She has come with us on vacation to many of Florida’s beaches and to the Georgia mountains. She enjoys the beach, paddleboarding, hiking and spending time with her new parents. We always find hotels that are pet-friendly when we get away locally. Abby wakes us up with kisses every morning—we don’t need to set an alarm anymore. She sleeps snuggled up to us as tightly as she can. I think we found the perfect match. Thank you for connecting us with her.”

Clear the Shelters On Saturday, Aug. 18th, Humane Society Naples ended the day with 143 adoptions through Clear the Shelters! NBC and Telemundo stations across the country teamed up with nearly 900 shelters to host the nationwide pet adoption drive.

This lifesaving day, sponsored by NBC2 and Riverland Nursery, allowed community members to engage with us and participate in fee-waived adoptions. The event was all about finding homes for thousands of animals across the U.S., and the turnout was a big success.

Hurricane Michael In October, Humane Society Naples rescued nearly 45 dogs from the City of Tallahassee Animal Service Center the day before Hurricane Michael made its devastating landfall. We sent four team members to the Panhandle in two cargo vans “filled to the brim” with crates for the rescue animals.
