FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR You know the feeling. The rough day that melts away when you’re greeted with a happy wagging tail. That sweet moment on the sofa when you hear purring next to you. Even if you don’t have that feeling in your life today, I bet you remember a time when you did. Animals save our lives, don’t they? They save us over and over.
At Humane Society Naples, we have the great privilege and honor of saving them right back. Sometimes they come to us with broken bones, and sometimes with broken hearts. We are proud to be equipped to repair both. There are always more lives to save, and your support makes it possible. Whether we are taking in desperately injured animals when others say no or providing free veterinary care to help keep a beloved pet in the home, your help allows us to say yes. You give us the resources to respond to disasters and to teach children the joy of animal affection. Together we’ll save more lives. Thanks so much for being a part of this journey.

Fund-A-Need
The easiest way to make sure animals have loving homes is to keep them there in the first place. Many of the animals that come to our shelter are here because their owners can’t afford heartworm preventatives or spay/neuter surgeries. In 2019, Humane Society Naples is going out into our community to provide free services to people in need. We need your help to do it. A gift of $1,000 will provide 14 spay/neuter surgeries to make sure hundreds more animals aren’t born into homelessness. $500 will provide 10 dogs with heartworm medication for a year. To put it in perspective, we can prevent heartworm in 20 dogs for the same price as we can treat one dog who already has the disease. Please join us in funding high-quality veterinary care to those in our community who need it most.

Award Recipients Jennifer & Paige Conery Walter Turken Award
Jennifer Conery lives and breathes animal advocacy. It’s in her blood, her DNA and clearly, it shows in all of the animals she has had, cared for and nurtured. She was raised on an Ohio dairy farm where she self-appointed herself “keeper of the animals.” From bottle-feeding baby calves, to mowing and working in the hay, she made sure that no animal was left behind. Jennifer’s most recent passion was her beloved boxer, Paige. It was love at first sight and she scooped her up and loved on her for an amazing 13 years. Jennifer and Paige enjoyed everything, as long as they were together. Driving across country, seeing the Grand Canyon, going mountain climbing, playing and keeping up with her six grandchildren at the family farm. You name it, they did it and always together. With Paige’s passing Jennifer has directed her passion for animals to help Humane Society Naples expand veterinary care in our community. For her philanthropic leadership, we are honoring Jennifer and Paige with our Walter Turken Award.
Susan Gohl
Jim Dellas and Cheryl Deering “Animaltarian” Award Chicago born and bred, Susan Gohl splits her time between the Windy City and Naples. A Northwestern University Graduate with BS in Communications/ Speech, Susan was an associate producer of nightly talk shows on NBC and CBS. The former model and actress is also the founder of Flying Dutchman Farm, where she follows her lifelong passion for horses. Susan has two children and five grandchildren. Her beloved, departed pets include Sushi, a Shih Tzu of outstanding character and Desi. An avid boater, Susan is the owner of “Susanna Bella,” which she has donated to Humane Society Naples for auction on numerous occasions helping us raise tens of thousands to rescue more animals. We honor Susan with our Jim Dellas and Cheryl Deering Animaltarian Award for her dedication to HSN and the animals we serve.
Krista Fogelsong ABC 7 - Waterman Broadcasting Animal Advocate Award
Krista Fogelsong anchors ABC7 news weeknights at 6, 7 and 11pm. She grew up in Montana and got her first TV job in South Dakota where she met her husband, Lance. She moved to Southwest Florida in 2002 and worked at Fox4 for five years, but thought she missed seasons. After one winter, she knew she wanted to get back. It took a while. She even helped start an ABC station in South Bend, Indiana. But, while on vacation in Southwest Florida she got an email about a job opening at NBC2. It was meant to be. Krista moved back “home” to our area in 2012. She anchored mornings for two years on NBC2 before moving back to evenings on ABC7 where she’s been ever since. Animals are her passion and she has two rescue dogs. She loves giving back to the community in any way she can by volunteering for many organizations. Krista has been a tremendous supporter of Humane Society Naples as host of numerous events. She continues to highlight issues important to animals and animal lovers on the air to bring more awareness in our community. For this work, we are honoring Krista and her colleagues at ABC7/Waterman Broadcasting with our Animal Advocate Award.
