OUR NAME and Our Mission

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide life-saving and life-changing behavioral health care through education, prevention, intervention, and treatment available to all.

Correctly using the new David Lawrence Centers name:

Our full name is the David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health.

When speaking with an individual or audience for the first time, the

full name of the organization should be used without exception. On any following references, the acronym DLC is acceptable and even encouraged.

Why have we chosen to use Behavioral Health in our name?

There is industry-wide change in mental health and addiction

treatment to use the term “Behavioral Health” to encompass both services. Those suffering from mental health and substance use

disorders are suffering from a disease. While we work to treat the

symptoms of these diseases, we also know that successful treatment includes understanding, controlling, and altering the behaviors of those affected by these diseases.

DLC provides programs and resources used in our school system to help identify, address, and prevent behavioral health and substance use concerns in our children and teenagers.

Collier County Court System

DLC works with our local judicial system to provide specialty court services and case management for Mental Health Court, Drug Court, and Veterans Court to help reduce recidivism rates by individuals affected by mental health and substance use disorders.

Our DLC Marketing and Development Departments launched a new initiative called Mind Your Mind in January of 2022 with the goal of increasing the discussion of mental health in the community. Since its creation, the Mind Your Mind initiative has successfully:

The DLC team is working to develop a quarterly Mind Your Mind Speakers Series. These events will act as both a source of fundraising and educational awareness and prevention.

Launched new resources, articles, and videos each month, distributed through an e-newsletter and on DLCMindYourMind.org.

Partnered with leaders in our community to provide their expertise and resources on topics such as Senior Mental Health, Community Wellbeing, and Workplace Wellness.

Increased awareness and scheduling of our Speakers’ Bureau programs available to local workplaces, schools, and organizations.

Hosted the Inaugural Mind Your Mind Community Day, a free event in Cambier Park focused on increasing community awareness and engagement.

Engaged and recruited local businesses and organizations to join a newly developed Community Mental Health Partners Program.

Proper Usage & Best Practices Mental health and substance use challenges do not have a single identi-

fiable face or emotion. They can look like anyone–all races, all genders, all ages and all backgrounds. Therefore, as a brand standard, David Law-

rence Centers for Behavioral Health strives to use imagery that shows the diverse nature of the people we serve.

An individual human subject should never be made “the face” of mental health or addiction in our branding. Images with multiple and diverse people or use of multiple images is preferred.

1. Where will staff be able to access the brand book at all times?

• A video training for all current staff will be provided, and a required Relias training with a signature page will follow.

• New hires will also be required to complete the Relias training.

• Along with a required Relias training, a printed brand book will be provided to new hires at New Employee Orientation (N.E.O.) and referenced in the PowerPoint.

3. How do I request or create marketing material for my department or staff?

• For new program flyers, staff will be strongly encouraged to use the DLC Canva account to create the flyer; however, it must be reviewed by their supervisor and Jessica Siefer, Marketing & Communications Manager, jessicas@ dlcenters.org, (239) 354-1468.

4. How will DLC ensure that brand guidelines are followed and understood?

• DLC SHINE committee will be involved with this initiative (for example, through engaging staff with an activity, game, or contest/giveaway around mission and values, or incorporating it into annual events like the Staff Appreciation Lunch, Holiday Party, etc.).

5. Who will be your “Go-To” brand ambassadors that will be responsible for continued training, auditing, and implementation of the brand?

• Directors and supervisors will be encouraged to watch for, and address, any instances with their staff where brand guidelines are not met (for example, overhearing or seeing language that does not adhere to the positive terminology guidelines).

• Directors and supervisors will also be encouraged to continually remind their staff about the importance of the brand guidelines during meetings—and even incorporate them into contests or activities to boost staff morale and engagement.

• Directors and supervisors will be encouraged to watch for, and address, any instances with their staff where brand guidelines are not met (for example, overhearing or seeing language that does not adhere to the positive terminology guidelines).
