Tokio Detention Center Katsushika City Usually, detention centers are seen as a waste of money and time for someone who barely deserved it.
LEAKING IMAGES IMÁGENES EN FUGA (leaking images) as a research and art collective have done a some insights during 2018 and 2019 on some colombian detention centers in order to exchange some of ideas and feeling about freedom using sound without a traditional face to face meeting (which obvioulsy could be quite difficult for security reasons). IMÁGENES EN FUGA is a duet of two cousins: Javier Ramos: -Furniture Designer (B.A.) -Art Hisotrian (M.A.) -Art History Researcher (Ph.D.) -Sound Artist Camilo Igua: -Philosopher (B.A.) -Art Management (M.A.) -Art Social Worker As a media, sound that could be share in and out of detention centers trhough oneiric language (dreams and nightmares), this has been used in order to allow a better Exchange without stignma of crime. On the other hand, sound as a communication media helped us to keep narratives from oneiric world as a kind of image (a piece of a whole imaginary world) to be leaked to the outside world.
The main goal of this project as a whole (since we have done a couple of interventions in art spaces in Colombia) look for a transformation or transmigration of Sound Images on other kind of Images (like visual images) easier to share. Opportunities like this in Tokio, a place where spanish language is almost completely unknown, will help us a lot of opportunities to turn sound images (in spanish) to visual or tactile images (more universal). Oneiric World then will be used as an chance to find common ideas and common mental places where inmates, visitors, japanese or any other nationality will find a similar feelings since dreams have not language or territorial barrier.
Colombia, such a relative low income country, has a very restricted budget for people who commit a crime. Opportunities for inmates are lower than other countries and recidivism on crime get a rate higher than 90%. Perform and exhibit stories and narrations using sound made by colombian inmates could make more visible the benefits of investment made by goverments and society on detention centers like this. CONNECTING SPOTS THROUGH WATER The main idea is to connect various points along Sumida River, which is one water body that is connected north with Aka Rive. Aka River pass by Tokio Detention Center (Katsushika City), and the concept of join parts of the city center with a realities occurred river north in Aka River, will help the artistic action in terms imaginary, because all that will be Heard and constructed will have a strong connection river up, in Tokio Detention Center. Suggested points along Sumida River (other could be also suggested since I´ve never been in Tokio before and a mere Google research could be not enough to find out the best spots):
