Light Quality Why does a product look better outside or at home than it does in-store? The secret is in the lighting. Natural sunlight, which is our human baseline for ideal lighting, reveals true color and texture. Poor quality artificial lighting distorts, dulls, and misrepresents what customers see.

Light Quality The Color Rendering Index (CRI) and R9 work together to give a more complete picture of light quality. CRI measures how naturally a broad range of colors appear under a light source, while R9 specifically evaluates the rendering of saturated reds – an important component in skin tones, fabrics, food, finishes, and many retail materials. When both values are strong, colors appear more accurate and balanced, helping spaces feel visually comfortable, natural, and easier to view for extended periods.

Saturated Color Rendering
The standard CRI rating, called Ra, is calculated from test colors R1–R8, giving a general indication of overall color fidelity. The CRI value is determined by the average of all R values. Higher CRI values (90+ CRI) typically mean colors appear more natural, balanced, and true to life.
R values measure how accurately a light source renders saturated red, a color not included in the standard Ra average. In retail, a strong R9-R15 score can improve the appearance of skin tones, cosmetics, fabrics, food, and finishes. The extended CRI range, R9–R15, adds more saturated and representative colors for a more natural view of color performance.
