DE LOS ANTEOJOS A LA SALUD MENTAL

Medicaid es importante porque me dio acceso para ayudar con la salud mental de mi hija. No podía recibir sus vacunas contra la gripe, exámenes físicos y chequeos regulares. No tengo un trabajo que ofrece seguro de salud, de hecho ninguno de los trabajos que he tendido me han ofrecido seguro de salud. Por eso El Centro me brindó asistencia para volver a solicitar el Medicaid de mi hijo. Ya no me preocupa tener que llevar a mi hijo a la clínica, hospital o farmacia cuando me piden seguro médico porque me siento más segura.

Cuando mi hija era joven, me dijo que no podía ver. Su escuela me envió una nota diciendo que mi hija necesitaba anteojos. No tenía idea, pero como tenía seguro médico pude llevarla a ver a un especialista y obtener sus anteojos. Con el paso del tiempo, olvidé renovar su Medicaid. Mi hija no estuvo asegurada durante seis años. Durante seis años de nuestras vidas me sentí preocupado por su salud porque no sabíamos a quién contactar. Noté que mi hija tenía dificultades en la escuela debido a su salud mental. Sabía que tenía que tomar medidas y pedir ayuda.

FROM GLASSES TO MENTAL HEALTH

Medicaid is important because it gave me access to help with my daughter’s mental health. I couldn’t get her flu shots, physical or regular checkups. I do not have a job that offers health insurance, in fact none of the jobs I have had offered health insurance. That’s why El Centro provided me with assistance to refile for my child’s Medicaid; I am no longer worried about having to take my child to the clinic, hospital, or pharmacy. I feel more secure to go to a doctor visit when I am asked for medical insurance.

When my daughter was young, she told me that she couldn’t see. Her school sent me a note saying that my child needed glasses. I had no clue, but because I had health insurance I was able to take her to see a specialist and get her glasses. As time passed by, I forgot to renew her Medicaid. My daughter was not insured for six years. For six years of our lives I felt worried for her health because we did not know who to reach out to. I noticed my child struggling in school due to her mental health. I knew I had to take action and ask for help.
