Tobacco disease ends in Indonesia!

An agreement between the government will allow children to be safe when they are next to the plant that has been threatening the world since 2018 Indonesia is the 5th biggest producer of tobacco. Children younger than 15 used to work in Indonesia, although it was illegal. However, around 1.5 million children worked in agriculture. Thousands worked on tobacco plantations.

Many had “green tobacco sickness”. They got weak. They got headaches. They could not go to school. They helped their families make money. They made only one dollar a day.

Human rights groups have changed this. They talked to big Indonesian tobacco companies and now they’ve decided to let the children go to school instead of going to work.
